My family and I couldn't wish for a better place for my mother to be cared for. Every member of staff, including auxiliary staff are really caring. They treat each person with kindness, respect, dignity, patience and love. Whenever we arrive the carers always know where she is and what she is doing.
They love to tell us of any particularly good days she is having, chatting to Mum and us about what made it so special. On the not so good days they have already responded to the change of health/mood and provided the extra care and support needed. If we are not there, they will call us. There are 2 voluntary and supported activities everyday for the residents to mix within the houses to solialise, keep fit and mobile or just enjoy. The home is clean, efficient and very well run and they respond to any requests or suggestions promptly.
Reply from Santall Horn, Home Manager at Etheldred HouseThank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review. We really appreciate your kind words. We strive to provide the best care possible and are grateful to have so much joy and meaningful moments in our workplace with our Etheldred family.

Since 2016, I have had either family members or friends whom I am LPA for in Etheldred House Care Home. Since day one, the standard of care has been excellent. Under the leadership of the manager, all staff look after the well-being of the family members/loved ones of the residents just as much as the
residents themselves. Something that no other care home I have been to does. The standard of care has not dropped at all despite changes in staff and the many challenges they have faced, including COVID. I cannot praise the staff enough for their care, kindness and professionalism. Thank you all for everything you do.
Reply from Santall Horn, Home Manager at Etheldred HouseThank you very much for the kind words and positive response. Your kindness means a lot to all of us. I will pass on your comment to the team, who will be delighted. Thank you for your continued support.

My mother has been at Etheldred House for nearly two and a half years now. She has always been well cared for by all members of staff. She is happy and contented and the home meets all her needs, which have increased since she was first admitted. The staff are accessible and helpful.

My dad has been a resident at Etheldred House since August 2022. He is very well looked after by all the nursing and care team. He is always treated with respect and dignity. His health needs are very well monitored and we are always kept informed. Even subtle changes are noticed and acted on. I believe
that this has saved his life on more than one occasion. As his visiting family we can see that he is happy. He really enjoys the food! We are all made to feel welcome and supported. We value everyone at Etheldred House who work to make a safe, comfortable and happy place to live. Thank you.

My mum was very reluctant to go into Etheldred but she had become very unsafe in her own home and was depressed and anxious. I think in a matter of a couple of weeks her whole demeanor changed and I got my old confident, happy Mum back. The staff are so kind and caring, from the chefs to the admin team.
Everyone knew her name in a very short space of time and continued to give her warmth and compassion. I love going to visit my mum, it is like a family. I now have total peace of mind that she is safe and enjoying her life, thank you all so much.

My friend the resident has dementia and is quite temperamental. However, the staff appreciate her spirited approach to life and are endlessly caring and patient. They contact me as much or as little as I wish so I am not contacted about every trivial issue. A recent 1 to 1 meeting with senior staff
was professional and rigorous, with the time to discuss more general matters and express my appreciation for the manager's special care as my friend settled in.

A family-focused care home. We chose Etheldred Care Home because of Butterfly House, a purpose-built house on the grounds of Etheldred, for early-onset dementia. This was a home away from home and provided wonderful care for my young husband at the start of his and our journey with Etheldred. We were
desperately sad when Butterfly closed and concerned about his transfer to Strawberry House. We need not have worried; the transition was smooth and I cannot praise the staff or management enough for their ongoing care and support. Etheldred is always open to visitors and is very family-focused. When issues do crop up, they are dealt with obligingly and helpfully. The home is always striving to improve care and support families in difficult circumstances.

My mother is a resident of Etheldred House and has been there since June 2023. She has settled in well and everyone has been very supportive and friendly to her. We have had a couple of grumbles from her in that time, all of which have been dealt with professionally and sympathetically by management
and staff on the wing. She is sadly now unable to walk or stand, which means the staff have to use a hoist every time she needs to use the toilet or move from chair to bed or wheelchair. The staff have done this properly and we have never had an issue related to it. The home has accommodated us by buying a motorised wheelchair for her. The little caring touches have been lovely. She's been able to put her own things into the room, including on the walls, which is a great help for feeling at home. There was a proper fuss made of her on her birthday. There have been two or three family events while she has been there that have been a nice way to meet other residents' relatives.

Thank you to all the staff at Etheldred House for the care you gave to Mum in the last two and a half years of her life. You tried to engage her in a range of activities and were always giving of your time to ensure you worked with us so we came to feel like part of a large family. During her last days,
you ensured she and we were cared for and looked after as she passed away. Thank you to everyone in the home from laundry, catering, office and care staff. In particular thanks to Apple House for all that you did for her and us.

Dad was taken into care at Etheldred Home's Strawberry House unit, which specialises in Dementia care. During the time Dad was a resident, the caring/nursing team treated him with the utmost respect, compassion and thought. We knew all of his needs were taken care of by staff who genuinely cared about
him as an individual, not just a fee-paying customer. We are indebted to the whole of the staff at Etheldred, who ensured we had peace of mind that Dad was in a safe and caring environment.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.930)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.930) out of 10 for Etheldred House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.930 for Etheldred House is calculated as follows: ( (405 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 430 Ratings = 4.93
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Etheldred House is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 94 registered maximum number of service users is 18.8, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
