Etheldred House is a purpose-built care home, providing nursing and residential person-centred care to adults aged 65+ including those living with dementia.

The care home, which offers long term and respite care is situated in the village of Histon with good access to local shops and a library. Cambridge city centre is five miles away.

Etheldred House is divided into four houses over two floors, Apple, Pear, Cherry and Strawberry, each with its own communal lounge, dining area, kitchenette and bathroom facilities.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities. The upper floor is accessed by stairs or a lift.

Other facilities at Etheldred House include a café and a children's play room.

Etheldred House provides:

Etheldred House is a very kind and caring care home.
Always friendly and welcoming.
It offers individualised and appropriate care, always taking into account what the family and relatives would like.
The staff are always cheerful and obviously enjoy their work and are very enthusiastic.
Very quick
to refer to local GP if Mum is unwell.
Management are very approachable and take any concerns seriously, working together to resolve any problems.
The rooms are kept lovely and clean and in good decorative order.
Lots of activities on offer and the local community are also involved in activities in-house.

Through what I can only describe as a tough and challenging experience for me and the rest of my family, Etheldred House have made us feel completely at ease. They are kind, caring and compassionate. They take the time to help not only the person living there but the family as well. We could not have
hoped for a better home for my father.


The food is good and family are encouraged to join at meal times.

We have always found mum's care to be very good. The staff are excellent and very accommodating. It is a friendly environment with very clean facilities including the spacious and welcoming foyer area.

Etheldred House has provided a safe, caring home for my mother for the past two years as she has passed from residential to nursing care.
At every stage, she has received professional, appropriate care from a cheerful, dedicated and competent staff, who have taken the time to get to know her, at every
level of the organisation.
The environment is well maintained and comfortable and money is currently being spent to improve further the ambience and welcoming nature of the home.
I can confidently recommend Etheldred to others.

My mother has been a resident at Etheldred House since April 2012. During her time at the home, she has been well cared for and treated with dignity and respect by all members of staff. My father is now also a resident since October 2018.
The staff not only look after the residents but also members
of the family. I very much appreciate their support and advice in dealing with a difficult and distressing situation.

The staff take really good care of my husband in a calm, friendly, efficient atmosphere. Relatives are always welcome and supported. It is a great relief to me, our family and friends that such good care and support is provided.

My father needed a nursing care place on discharge from the hospital. Dad did settle remarkably quickly. I have been impressed with how quickly his carers/nurses have got to know of and manage his idiosyncrasies. Unfortunately, he does not take part in any activities and refuses to eat cooked food.
My choices below reflect what I have seen with other patients. This is an expensive care home but it is well worth the cost. Note, staff like working there - excellent calm and competent manager.

My father has advanced dementia and his behaviour can be somewhat difficult at times. The staff are compassionate not only towards him but to us as a family. They have ensured that all needed professionals are involved and we are kept fully updated about all of his care needs. I would recommend Etheldred
to anyone looking for care as they always go above and beyond.

Santall has been the General Manager at Etheldred House since November 2008. Santall began her career in management in 2004 as a Residential Care Manager and has been a Home Manager since October 2006.

Job Title: Care Manager Joined: 2008

Enrica became the Care Manager at Etheldred House in November 2008 and is a Registered General Nurse.
Enrica is responsible for the running of the home in the absence of the Manager.
