Etheldred House is a purpose-built care home, providing nursing and residential person-centred care to adults aged 65+ including those living with dementia.

The care home, which offers long term and respite care is situated in the village of Histon with good access to local shops and a library. Cambridge city centre is five miles away.

Etheldred House is divided into four houses over two floors, Apple, Pear, Cherry and Strawberry, each with its own communal lounge, dining area, kitchenette and bathroom facilities.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities. The upper floor is accessed by stairs or a lift.

Other facilities at Etheldred House include a café and a children's play room.

Etheldred House provides:

I love visiting Grandma. She's always happy in the home and there's always biscuits. Staff are always friendly and take good care of her - it's clearly important to them that she is content and their cheerfulness makes Etheldred a joy to visit. I know Grandma appreciates it too - she is always talking
about the nice things going on.

My mother-in-law is happy and safe. She's eating more and has gained weight. Staff are lovely and always helpful. Mother-in-law is safe, we worried about her wandering, she's happy - I didn't see her as often as I should but knew she's being cared for.

In April a family crisis meant that my elderly father could no longer stay at home waiting for an operation as my mother was no longer able to care for him. The staff at 8 responded with compassion and great efficiency over 2-3 days to offer him a place to stay while we waited for an operation date.
I cannot say how grateful my family is for the care and support we have received now over several weeks as we have navigated difficult times for my elderly and frail parents. We have nothing but praise for the manager and the whole team!

My wife is the third member of our family in Etheldred over the years and I've never been able to find faults. All staff are polite/friendly - they do above and beyond the call of duty whenever needed.

My mother passed away at 2.30am on this Monday 1st May. She has lived at Etheldred House for five years and was very happy there. The care she has received this past month has been fantastic and her end of life was managed professionally and sensitively. The whole family were welcomed and able to share
in her care at this very sad and difficult time. I cannot recommend this care home and it's staff highly enough. A real family environment with professional standards.

From the moment we walked in the door we have always felt this is the best place. The staff are so friendly, positive and caring. We also could not praise the management enough here they show the residents and visitors total dignity. My mother is so happy now and this means so much to me. The rooms
are lovely and homely. Very clean and everything is very well maintained. The food is good, in fact, the mashed potato was better than in a well-known celebrities restaurant. Please please keep up the very high standards you have.

My mother has been a resident in this care home for many years. She has multiple medical issues that mean she has often been difficult to deal with. I have been constantly impressed by the care she has been shown, the patience with which her needs have been addressed, and the respect that underlies
that care. I have never had cause to question the cleanliness of the home, the quality of the meals or the professionalism of the staff. What makes this home stand out for me is that all of the staff - from the nurses to the cooks and cleaners - know my mother's name and greet her when they see her.

I have found the standard of care to be excellent, both sympathetic and encouraging. The communication with the manager and her staff is responsive, helpful and timely. Any problems encountered are communicated in an effective and caring manner. The staff and carers all seem dedicated and caring offering
the patients much dignity. The patients are given some leeway to allow them to pursue their interests and retain as much independence as is practical. The food is of a high standard. The bedrooms and communal areas are clean and very presentable.

I can speak for myself and my family to say what a wonderful place Etheldred is. My Nan is safe, secure and truly loved by all the staff. I could not recommend this home more to anyone considering care for a loved one. The staff are fully trained to understand dementia and are able to make a clear connection
with all residents I see in their care.

I cannot praise the Etheldred staff enough for looking after my brother who has had several strokes and cannot do anything for himself. All the nursing staff are so amazing with him and we could not ask for anything better. They are caring and so attentive that they treat him as though he is a member
of their own family. We as a family know that he would thank each and every one of you for his care if he could so we are doing it on his behalf. Everyone plays their part in making it a very special place to come to visit and over the years we have been to a few care homes but none come anywhere near Etheldred. Thank you also for organising the special events such as Xmas party, Easter Egg hunt for the children and Easter raffle for everyone, summer barbeque and all the other wonderful events you do. So once again I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of my family to you all for looking after my brother. You are all amazing in all our eyes.

The staff, from management to cleaners, are highly professional. The carers are extremely friendly and very approachable. Dignity is respected at all times. My Grandfather was also in this home and I wouldn't want my Grandmother to be anywhere else.

Have been visiting Etheldred for a couple of years now and have always found the staff and management to be extremely professional, courteous and friendly.
I have, as part of my job, visited several care homes in the Cambridge area, and Etheldred is quite clearly outstanding for the care and facilities

It's excellent. You cannot fault it in any way, that includes managers, staff and everybody. My wife lives here and when I became poorly the staff went out of their way to help me get better by letting me stay and ensuring that they picked me up so that I could still visit my wife. I feel we are one
big happy family. My wife and myself have been highly looked after for the 9 years that she has been here. They always make sure that she has everything that she wants.

Santall has been the General Manager at Etheldred House since November 2008. Santall began her career in management in 2004 as a Residential Care Manager and has been a Home Manager since October 2006.

Enrica became the Care Manager at Etheldred House in November 2008 and is a Registered General Nurse.
Enrica is responsible for the running of the home in the absence of the Manager.
