My mother was treated with extreme kindness and was allowed to keep her dignity. She was allowed to have all her own things around her, the room was large, light and airy and nothing was too much trouble. We were allowed to come and go as we pleased.

Job Title: General Manager
Hi my name is Lorna Smith, I have been a nurse all my life since started training when I was 18 years old. Which is a long way off now!
I have nursed and a few fields of nursing, Burns and Plastics at Mont Vernon Hospital, Occupational Health for a Private Company and have been a Home or General Manager for the past 13 years.
I came into elderly care from a private hospital where I worked on a Plastics and Cosmetics ward which as you can imagine were worlds apart. But I loved elderly care nursing and from Sister of a Unit progressed quite quickly to Home Manager. The residents becoming the very essence of my working life.
I have worked for Athena for over 2 years and Aria Court is my second home as a General Manager.
Aria Court has seen quite a few managerial staff changes and my main aim is to steady the ship and steer my way through to achieving good or outstanding.
My vision for the home is to become the flagship home for Athena providing excellent care and life enhancement for our residents. I value the independence and the self- worth of each resident and firmly believe that everyone young and old still have a role to play in the wider society, despite any disability they may have.
I am a firm believer in resident’s choice and their rights as an individual and aim to promote this with my team.
My home life centres around a very old chocolate Labrador who still thinks she is two.
