My wife was in Ford Place Nursing Home after discharge from the hospital with untreatable bladder cancer. She died after 14 days in residence. She was bedridden and unconscious for this period. My daughter, our visiting friends and I were impressed by the quality of the care extended to my wife both
from a nursing viewpoint and from housekeeping. The room was immaculate and the action to keep her comfortable and clean were prompt and effective. There was no restriction on visiting and the staff treated visitors with notable courtesy. I was able to sit in during the visit of the attending Doctor.
My wife hardly ate and did not take part in any activities so my comments on these items are by observation of others.
Reply from Silvia Nunes, Deputy Manager at Ford PlaceThank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to care for your wife for the last two weeks of her life.
We wish you and your family the very best for the future.

My mother arrived in Ford Place in August after 2 months in hospital and unfortunately passed away in September. A much shorter stay than we expected but she was so well cared for by all the staff and treated wonderfully. As a family we could not be happier with Ford Place.

My mother and my stepfather moved into Ford Place in January. Sadly my mother died in March and her husband this month. They enjoyed a large high-ceiled double room, most of the other homes we looked at were not really set up to welcome couples. The common rooms are spacious and light, looking out to
a lovely garden going down to the river. Although the home is near the centre of Thetford it feels as if you are in the country. All the staff came across as cheerful and happy in their work. The palitive care my stepfather received in his last days was kind and professional. Overall outstanding. I am thinking of putting my name down for 2038!

This care home is by far the best in this area, it is like staying in a hotel, extremely friendly and professional staff. The facilities are excellent, surrounding grounds well kept. I cannot 'sin the praises' highly enough. I would like to stay again sometime. My greatest thanks to everyone that helped
and assisted me during my stay.

My elderly Mother spent her final 11 months at Ford Place. From the first day, when they personalised her room, all the way through her gradual decline, the excellence of Care remained undiminished.
Relatives are warmly welcomed by all and can visit at any time, even joining in with the activities
which are organised with much thought and consideration. It is clear that every member of staff, regardless of their official role, has a relationship with the residents; there is a true family atmosphere.
In her final hours Mum was looked after wonderfully and with their 24-hour nursing care, they made sure she was never alone. The entire team also showed great compassion and support to me on my final visit, enabling me to complete all the practical matters with ease. At Ford Place, I witnessed genuine kindness, yet there is much hard work and absolute professionalism too.

I arrived at this slightly faded but still elegant country house to a very warm welcome. New buildings blend in with old. All the staff here greet you every day with a smile. Proficiency is evident when needed. A 24-hour medical presence is reassuring. Home cooking with fresh food, what a pleasant change
from the plastic containers in the microwave. Weekly/daily entertainment for residents is provided. The garden is a true delight. I recommend my home to anyone, after all, it did win an outstanding award. Truly deserved.

Ford has offered my mother a warm, comfortable, home with beautiful decor and grounds which she appreciated. All the staff have treated her with respect, kindness, compassion and generosity of spirit. Moreover, she has been valued as an individual and every attempt was made to stimulate her and help
her live life to the full. There was humour too which was appropriately used.
My mother lived full time at Ford for one year, following a stay the previous year when she was "between flats" and went back originally for respite. During that respite, she told her family that she felt she could no longer manage and I am sure that the atmosphere at Ford enabled her to feel safe enough to contemplate residential care.
Sadly my mother died very recently but I cannot fault the care and love she was shown at that time. Indeed their care of us too was beyond reproach.
I wish to thank everybody at Ford for all they do, often in highly difficult circumstances with elderly, ill and frail people.

My mum arrived at Ford Place because she was terminally ill. My first impression of Ford Place was just how clean it was. My mum could spot a breadcrumb at 50 paces and even she couldn't find fault.
On the day my mum passed away the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure mum was
comfortable. After mum passed the girls wanted to make sure Mum looked beautiful for us. The girls had even gone as far as to paint Mums nails her favourite colour. We can't thank them enough for what they did for Mum that day and for making her look so beautiful.
I was expecting them to take Mum out through the back door, as what happened to my nan elsewhere. However at Ford Place, every single member of staff came and lined up to say goodbye to Mum and she was taken out the front doors, just as she came in. It really touched us how they did this and I can't thank the staff enough for giving us this wonderful memory. Mum was given so much respect that day and that will stay with me forever.
Reply from Ruth French, Director at Ford PlaceWhat a lovely review to receive. Thank you so much for these lovely comments. The details you have written are so lovely and we will let staff know how much their care of your mum has been appreciated. Thank you.

I have been visiting my mum in ford place daily since her admission nearly three years ago. The nursing and caring staff are brilliant, they look after Mum with great care and dignity, they are friendly and approachable. I would like to include all staff at Ford Place, the cleaners, cooks and the caretaker,
they all do a wonderful job, and are very willing to go the extra mile to give Mum what she likes to help her feel at home.

I am made to feel welcome by all the staff when I visit and the manager will always find time to talk to family members.

Thank you everyone for your care and support!

The manager, nurses, and carers all seemed to really care about the residents they were involved with. Upon our departure, there was someone there trying to start more programs for the residents to be involved in/with to help keep them more mentally active and physically engaged.

Everyone we encountered

were treating the residents with dignity.

The weekends seemed to prove more challenging for the workers as the help was scaled back.

All things considered, Ford Place Nursing Home was a good place.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.847)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.847) out of 10 for Ford Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.847 for Ford Place is calculated as follows: ( (289 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 340 Ratings = 4.847
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ford Place is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
