My father has been a resident of Barchester Alice Grange Care Home for over two years. After a few ups and downs under previous management, we have noticed a vast improvement in the home under current management. The staff have got through an incredibly tough year and have really been a replacement family for our loved ones when we were not able to see them. Communication is excellent - regular phone calls from the nurse to update us on any health issues or changes in medication. There is a great range of activities (visit by miniature donkeys!) and the food is very good quality. I am in awe of the team for how they have coped during lockdown and so grateful for them being there for Dad.

Do not move your family members to this home. My mother in law had been in this home for two years. Whilst the carers are in the main lovely, they are too few, 1 to 12 at night is known. They leave you in the bath alone (that is, when they have time to give you a bath), they have in the past left my mother in law on the floor for two hours crying for help. The management is atrocious. They promise you a home for life but then two years later throw you out for some trumped upcharge. This is certainly a case of not getting what you pay for. For circa £1400 a week, you expect your toenails to be cut, to be able to have a bath whenever you want. But instead, it is the opposite and being told your expectations are too high. My mother in law is a 90-year-old unassuming, quiet lady, loved by all the carers and residents at the home. One day in July 2021 the management came to her room when she was alone and handed her a letter evicting her from her home. Is this caring?

Do not even consider sending anyone you care about to this appalling place that calls itself a care home. It most certainly doesn’t care for anyone!
My 90-year-old mother spent two years in this home. The level of care was unbelievable with one carer per twelve residents not unusual. The carers were good but had an impossible job. Two baths a week were difficult for them with my mother often being left on her own until the water went cold. She has Parkinson’s and had a bad fall as the carers forgot to leave her a commode by the bed. She was then evicted by management for not going to the hospital! We have tried to approach management on various occasions to try to resolve issues to no avail. They never reply.
All of that for £80,000 a year! Disgusting!

We have involved CQC, the Ombudsman and our MP and are looking forward to those responsible being held accountable.

My mother has been a resident at Barchester Alice Grange since January 2021. In that time her physical condition has improved greatly. She has also always appeared cheerful when we speak to her. Due to Covid restrictions, I could not enter the care home so are unable to comment on some of the items listed below.
