Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is a nursing home by the sea, registered with the Care Quality Commission to treat complex care needs, which only qualified Nurses are allowed to provide. They employ their own team of fully trained and qualified nurses and carers, and never use agency staff. You can rest assured that they will meet your relative’s needs, whether it be a serious illness, physical disability, dementia, nursing care, or caring for them in the last stages of their life.

The home also has a full activities program delivered by dedicated trained staff and aims to have something for everyone. Whatever their level of ability, residents are supported to keep active in body and mind through enjoyable and stimulating beneficial pastimes, either individually or with others.

They are developing person-centred care practice. This means they focus on the person, not only their need. They listen and get to know each person's strengths, qualities, likes, dislikes, and their sense of humour, and as they and family members help them to understand their life story, you can be confident they will be supported to exercise as much choice and control over their life as possible.

They believe everyone is a unique individual, with unique talents, and that everyone deserves the same opportunity to live life to the full, so they don’t treat people differently based on their condition, especially dementia. You can be assured that your loved one will not be excluded, but rather supported to integrate and be involved with others in the life of the home.

They know that food and meals are important, so they employ fully trained in-house chefs who use fresh ingredients to produce a varied menu of home-cooked classic dishes, and from different cuisines, cooked and presented to meet individual dietary and nutritional needs.
You can relax knowing that your family member will safely enjoy tasty, attractive and nutritious meals.

This place is really nice. They are so caring and helpful, always put a smile on the faces of people and visitors. They will have a chat with the visitors as well as the people that live there. They come in and check to see if earthing is OK, which is really nice to see, as well as offering visitors
a tea or coffee. They are friendly, cheerful and reliable. They are quick to answer if Nan pushes her button. This place is very professional and they make you feel at home and treat you as family, so caring, friendly and lovely. All staff deserve a medal and a pay rise, they never stop helping, all go above and beyond. This place is clean and always getting cleaned and nothing is left unattended. If Nan doesn't want anything on the menu, they make something else. They always have activities on for the people to do.

The home is welcoming to all residents and visitors alike. Every member of staff is determined to give each resident the highest level of care, always showing patience and understanding. Every level of need is met successfully, whether medical or social. I am kept up to date with changes in treatment
and needs. I have watched my mother steadily improve and I am reassured that in my absence she is safe and comfortable.

My mother came into the care home from the hospital on palliative care. She received excellent care, which made her last few weeks comfortable. The staff which we met were all caring and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. A very friendly atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Kirkley
Manor is also in a lovely location a few minutes from the beach.
Reply from Gener Tayhopon, Home Manager at Kirkley Manor Nursing HomeThank you for your review. The team at Kirkley Manor takes pride in their abilities and compassion in nursing and care. I am pleased that you and your family acknowledge this level of passion that the team has shown and demonstrated while your mother was with us.

Grandma spent 4 weeks having some rehabilitation after hospital before returning back home, she went from being unable to stand or walk unaided to walking with one carer's support. The home is extremely clean and doesn't smell like a typical care home, instead smells fresh and homely. Staff were extremely
friendly, always helpful with any enquiry and willing to help. Grandma always appeared happy and content during her stay, we will be forever thankful to all the staff who helped Grandma with her rehabilitation, you are all worth your weight in gold, thanks for the fun activities you allowed us to join in with too.

Our mother was in Kirkley Manor Care Home for at least five weeks, prior to her passing away. I can’t praise the staff enough for how they gave Mum her dignity back after spending time in hospital for about three months. She was treated with utmost care and was always clean and in fresh bedclothes and
bed linen. Whenever I visited Mum, I always was greeted by staff, even if they weren’t directly looking after her. Special thanks to two members of staff who always knew what was going on from a nursing perspective. The healthcare assistants were also amazing in how they cared about their patients. They tried everything to get Mum to eat and drink and would often get something special for her. One of the touching things that happened was my daughter could visit with her twin boys who weren’t very old. This would not happen if she had remained in hospital. Special memories for us as a family. I would just like to say thank you for your love and care shown to us as a family. Thoroughly recommend Kirkley Manor.

Due to my location in Australia as a permanent resident for 50 years, I am only able to see my mother once a year on her Birthday. Due to the fact of my mother's lack of mobility, I requested that we could have a small Birthday celebration in the grounds of this facility, a request that was granted.
Without hesitation, the staff provided all catering and could not have been more helpful.

The cleaners through to management are all lovely people - nothing's too much trouble. The food is good though the room is small and they brought me in a television as I was rather miserable about staying in this small room for 28 days without anything to occupy my mind.
Reply from Lavinia Carauleanu, Acting Home Manager at Kirkley Manor Nursing HomeDear Sarah,

I hope you keep well. Thank you so much for the feedback given, all of us much appreciated it. Unfortunately, on your admission day that was the bedroom available although the home has beautiful bigger sized bedrooms and beautiful lounges, we feel sorry that you refused to come downstairs to see the rest of our home.

The staff at Kirkley Manor are lovely and all work very hard. My aunt is always kept comfortable.
It would be great if the home had an activities co-ordinator, although I realise that staff are hard to find in the current climate.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.874)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.874) out of 10 for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.874 for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (266 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 302 Ratings = 4.874
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
