Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is a nursing home by the sea, registered with the Care Quality Commission to treat complex care needs, which only qualified Nurses are allowed to provide. They employ their own team of fully trained and qualified nurses and carers, and never use agency staff. You can rest assured that they will meet your relative’s needs, whether it be a serious illness, physical disability, dementia, nursing care, or caring for them in the last stages of their life.

The home also has a full activities program delivered by dedicated trained staff and aims to have something for everyone. Whatever their level of ability, residents are supported to keep active in body and mind through enjoyable and stimulating beneficial pastimes, either individually or with others.

They are developing person-centred care practice. This means they focus on the person, not only their need. They listen and get to know each person's strengths, qualities, likes, dislikes, and their sense of humour, and as they and family members help them to understand their life story, you can be confident they will be supported to exercise as much choice and control over their life as possible.

They believe everyone is a unique individual, with unique talents, and that everyone deserves the same opportunity to live life to the full, so they don’t treat people differently based on their condition, especially dementia. You can be assured that your loved one will not be excluded, but rather supported to integrate and be involved with others in the life of the home.

They know that food and meals are important, so they employ fully trained in-house chefs who use fresh ingredients to produce a varied menu of home-cooked classic dishes, and from different cuisines, cooked and presented to meet individual dietary and nutritional needs.
You can relax knowing that your family member will safely enjoy tasty, attractive and nutritious meals.

Dad has lived here for 15 months and has settled well. The staff are all friendly, helpful and attentive to dad's needs and are equally welcoming to visitors. As I write this on Thursday dad has already participated in games afternoon on Monday, a visit from local school children on Tuesday and a local
singer on Wednesday. I would, and indeed have recommended Kirkley Manor to friends who have parents in similar situations.

My dad has been at Kirkley Manor for 6 weeks now. We were worried at first about the care he was going to get, but everything has been fantastic. Dad is able to get up and go to the lounges and join in the activities there. All the staff are first class and will do anything for him and us as a family.

This care home is run with compassion, professionalism and dedication. My mother is always their first priority as I am sure all the residents are. The staff are always on hand to answer any concerns as is the management.
My mum has stayed at four other care homes as I recall and not one of these can
compare with Kirkley Manor and last but not least I would like to thank you for looking after my mother.

Always a good welcome at reception when I arrive. Clean and tidy everywhere. All staff and management friendly. The residents are well looked after. Mum has settled in very well. The chef asked for mum's preferences and has obliged. Entertainment staff very good and mum enjoys the regular singer on
a Wednesday very much. A great improvement in mum since she moved to Kirkley Manor just over 2 years ago.

The staff are very alert to residents needs. I am a retired senior teacher who has much to do with the 16-19-year-olds. I have been impressed with the younger staff who have recently left school. They must be carefully tutored by the older staff.

My son was very impressed with his discussion with

the manager.

Although my friend has only recently had to move into care, she was welcomed warmly by all the staff and made to feel very special. It has been difficult for her to be in a position of requiring help as she is fiercely independent but the staff have been kind, caring, encouraging and even loving to
her.
I too have always been welcomed warmly and everyone has been happy to answer any questions.

Everyone who visited my mother commented on the caring and welcoming attitudes of staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
Staff always greeted me with a friendly smile and an update on my mother's health. There were always adequate numbers of staff on duty. When giving care to my mother, staff always
treated her with the utmost courtesy and respect.

My mum has been a resident for almost two years. The staff are wonderful and always giving her cuddles and dancing with her when she wants it. We love the fact there are no restrictions on visits. We feel she is safe and gets the best care possible, something we couldn't manage. Her room is her safe
haven and she loves it. She is very mobile and walks around a lot in the night, this is not a problem for the staff.

Review from Ann P (Relative of Resident) published on 30 January 2017 Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My relative is very well looked after, is very happy where she is and enjoys the food (and she's an extremely fussy eater)! All the staff are helpful, friendly, attentive and efficient and treat the residents with kindness and respect. When it was my relatives birthday (102) the staff made a real fuss
of her and she (and we) enjoyed the little party that the home organised for her.

Should anything be unsatisfactory (which it isn't) I feel that my comments would be welcome, either at one of the regular "residents and relatives" meetings or in a separate meeting.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.874)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.874) out of 10 for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.874 for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (266 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 302 Ratings = 4.874
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirkley Manor Nursing Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
