Generally I am impressed with my husband's care. Maybe, the building itself is rather old and tired in places.

I visit my husband 5 days every week. Who is contented to be here, for rehabilitation and physio. He enjoys the food which is variety and well presented. cups of drink, tea, coffee and of course cold drinks are served during the day. Entertainment is organised daily by a staff member. Staff are helpful and very caring. Enabling my husband to progress in his walking and balance with frame.

Mum has received excellent care and support from the staff. We have had regular contact from the staff with updates on mum's care. Nothing seems to be too much. I would recommend this unit for other carers. Cannot comment on activities or cost as discharged from hospital to some. Mum unable to participate in the many activities arranged by the staff.

The reception we got as a family was very welcoming from day one. The colleagues are very friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We feel we can ask any question and they answer straight away and if not come back with whats happening. Alot of care is taken to settle mum in. Cannot comment on activities as Mum has not tried them yet. But when passing, sounds good and clients laughing and clapping, music playing. The day room is bright and always cheery.

My mother was on respite after being in hospital after various falls. Once in Avocet Court she settled well and the professionalism of the care support was very good. No complaints by my mother only praise and very thankful for the service/support she had. The staff very pleasant and willing to assist with a smile. My mother enjoyed the activities and meeting others enjoying their company. Always good food/drink at regular intervals. Many thanks for looking after my mother.

I found Avocet Court a warm, welcoming environment. I could see it was committed to serve the needs of each individual, understanding the difficulties that increasing cognitive impairment brings. Placing someone you love in the care of someone else is a huge step but my questions were answered and I felt supported during this difficult time. It's a transition for my sister-in-law as well as us.

Overall Experience
Mum spent just under a month at Avocet Court in an NHS funded reablement bed. The facilities were good if a little dated with a lovely bright and airy communal lounge and a large bedroom. On some occasions there was a lingering odour in the lounge. Mum was well fed but often left drinks untouched. Some staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly, others less so. They were usually very busy and staff availability to discuss any queries or concerns was variable but overall they were responsive when available. One or two of the team stood out as natural carers and nothing was too much for them. There were issues with equipment function and availability which took a couple of weeks to resolve (call alarm, crash mat and sensor mat).

The reablement came to an early end as the therapists felt they could do no more for Mum. Within less than a week in a new care home Mum's mobility and continence have improved beyond our expectations, leaving us disappointed with the provision at Avocet Court.

My mum has been a resident at Avocet Care Home (Harlech House) in Ipswich for over a year, and throughout that time the staff are always been compassionate and caring towards my mum. Whenever I have asked questions the staff are always helpful. I am really impressed by the positive attitude shown by all of the caring team.

My mum is happy and settled here, which is the most important thing to my sisters and I. While not the most modern care home, there is a constant programme of improvements taking place. The carers are fantastic, as is the activities coordinator. The food is excellent, good quality and plentiful.

On Wednesday 15th of January, I was visiting my mother and like several other residents, Mum had a nasty cough and felt very unwell. A very nice lady from housekeeping came into Mum's room and we had a lovely chat about how this lady puts out fat balls and bird seed and what she does in the garden area. My mum loves her garden at home so this really cheered Mum up after I left at 16.20 pm before tea arrived and I asked this lady to check on Mum for me, not only did she assist Mum with her meal, she was caring and patient and made Mum feel special and this morning the first thing Mum told me was how kind this lady had been. I believe anyone so caring should be made aware of how much this meant! Thank you.

My father-in-law came to respite care at Avocet Court Care Home from the hospital. All staff were prompt in meeting his needs, both physically, medically and emotionally. My wife always tells me when I visit that she likes the place, the food is always good, and the staff are great, I visit three times a week and have lunch as well. I always get a phone call from one of the carers as to how she is. I also believe if it wasn't for the night staff my wife would not be here now checking
her on three occasions over the time she has been there when she had heart failure and they called emergency ambulances. I cannot thank them enough. I would recommend Avocet court if I was asked.

Thanks to all the staff.

My brother tells me he was well treated at Acovert and he got on really well with the carers who were very caring. He sends them a very big thank you for their care. As his carer and next of kin living 4 1/2 hours drive away I found communication was sometimes difficult and was not always kept in the link, without me calling regularly. The major issue not being able to talk to my brother when his phone was not charged. Having said that the carers when contacted were always respectful and very caring of my brother which is the main thing. Thank you all.
