On Wednesday 15th of January, I was visiting my mother and like several other residents, Mum had a nasty cough and felt very unwell. A very nice lady from housekeeping came into Mum's room and we had a lovely chat about how this lady puts out fat balls and bird seed and what she does in the garden area.
My mum loves her garden at home so this really cheered Mum up after I left at 16.20 pm before tea arrived and I asked this lady to check on Mum for me, not only did she assist Mum with her meal, she was caring and patient and made Mum feel special and this morning the first thing Mum told me was how kind this lady had been. I believe anyone so caring should be made aware of how much this meant! Thank you.

My father-in-law came to respite care at Avocet Court Care Home from the hospital. All staff were prompt in meeting his needs, both physically, medically and emotionally. The communication from reception to nursing staff was exceptional. We felt that all staff were professional and friendly and we can
see such an improvement in my father-in-law in all areas. Thank you so much.

My wife always tells me when I visit that she likes the place, the food is always good, and the staff are great, I visit three times a week and have lunch as well. I always get a phone call from one of the carers as to how she is. I also believe if it wasn't for the night staff my wife would not be
here now checking
her on three occasions over the time she has been there when she had heart failure and they called emergency ambulances. I cannot thank them enough. I would recommend Avocet court if I was asked.
Thanks to all the staff.

My brother tells me he was well treated at Acovert and he got on really well with the carers who were very caring. He sends them a very big thank you for their care. As his carer and next of kin living 4 1/2 hours drive away I found communication was sometimes difficult and was not always kept in the
link, without me calling regularly. The major issue not being able to talk to my brother when his phone was not charged. Having said that the carers when contacted were always respectful and very caring of my brother which is the main thing. Thank you all.

At first, Mum was very scared about coming here because she had never experienced this situation before, by the time it was time for her to move on she would quite happily have kept here longer. The staff had been very kind to her and she felt at home with them. Through no fault of the staff as they
were so busy there was sometimes a bit of a delay answering the call button but on the whole, everything was good.

I have been very pleased with the care that my husband has received during the year that he has lived in Powys House. He has been treated at all times with kindness, dignity and respect. All the staff have been warm and helpful to me and have given me time to speak to them when necessary. I have valued
especially that every time there has been a problem, such as falling out of bed, even if no physical damage has resulted, I have been told about this by a phone call. This has enabled me to relax and has given me peace of mind. Very best wishes, a resident's wife.

Birthday visit to my Aunt who is in respite and assessment.
I was impressed with the staff that we met who appeared to be attentive and caring.
A special mention to the man in the cafe who presented my Aunt with a birthday cake and made us feel very welcome. A lovely space to sit and chat and feel
‘normal’.
I was pleased to see her room was sunny and clean with its own en-suite.

My mum was transferred to Avocet after a brief stay in hospital, for an assessment of her care needs. The staff were super friendly to Mum and looked after her well, and after just 2 weeks Mum was able to be discharged home. I think it is fair to say that the room Mum had was more on the basic side,
but it did have a private toilet which was ideal for Mum. Mum enjoyed the meals and loved chatting with the various members of staff. Whilst Mum didn't want to join in with the activities, there was a regular programme of events that everyone was encouraged to join in. The cafe in the main entrance is lovely and welcoming, and the cake is delicious! All in all, I am very pleased with how Mum was treated over her relatively brief stay here.

It was such a relief when my relatives became temporary residents at Acovet Court. They were treated with great respect by all professionals involved with their stay.
Although they had difficulties settling this was not through want of trying and patience from the staff.
They were all most kind.
Phone calls were welcomed and reassuring. The range of activities available was amazing. Avocet certainly improved the quality of my relatives' lives.

My husband was previously in another care home and became increasingly distressed at being kept in his room each and every day. Since moving to Avocet Court he has become much calmer and enjoys mixing with other residents in the day room. In his previous home, he didn't eat, but by the second day at
Avocet, he was eating half of all his meals and is much happier now.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.735)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.735) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 61 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.735 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (547 Excellents x 5) + (141 Goods x 4) + (24 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 712 Ratings = 4.735
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 60 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Kayleigh, and I am the Community Lead of our Harlech Memory Care Community here at Avocet Court.

Dementia Care has always been very close to my heart, and I am passionate that our residents are supported to live well with their memory care needs at all times.

Enabling our residents to settle comfortably into their new home is my number one priority, and making every day they spend with us is the best it possibly can be!
