Very big place, lovely girls to look after you. Food very good, too much at times. I had a very nice room and staff looked after me very well.

My mother stayed here after suffering a stroke. The room was clean but basic. We found all the staff to be very helpful, kind and compassionate and cheerful. Mum was looked after well, kept clean and well dressed. The food was nice but there could have been a bit more variety at lunch. She got very
bored of soup. Activities were provided which Mum enjoyed. The gardens were nice with a nice table and chairs area to sit in.

My husband recently stayed at Avocet Court, Harlech House. All of the carers who looked after him went over and above. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. The care, kindness and support were outstanding.

When I was sent here from hospital, I was very frightened. I needn't have been, as the staff were very welcoming and helped me in every way to settle in, from the staff, carers, ladies who brought my meals, to the cleaning staff. Have made lots of new friends who I will miss very much. It's a very happy
place, very warm and comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone. Everyone I have met were kind, it meant so much to me. Thank you.

My Mum spent 6 weeks in Harlech, the dementia unit at Avocet. Her dementia had made her fairly quiet, as opposed to other residents who were shouting, banging on doors etc. She found the environment intimidating and often didn't want to leave her room and spent a lot of time alone (when we weren't visiting).
Her personal care was poor and she took many weeks after leaving Harlech to heal properly. On a plus, their entertainment person was superb. He worked so hard with the residents.
We moved Mum out as soon as we were able to.
I can only comment on Harlech and do understand the other buildings feel very different.

My 93 year old mother suffered a stroke in April 2023, and after two months in Heath Road Hospital, Ipswich (where she received excellent treatment), she was moved to Powys House, where she stayed for over two months. During her time there she received excellent care from a very friendly, caring and
professional staff. The house was always clean, devoid of unpleasant odours, well run by an active and engaged management team, relatively quiet with pleasant well tended gardens with seating. My mother was treated with dignity whilst being encouraged to actively pursue her recovery and we were impressed that, whilst the staff were clearly busy and stretched, [under resourced almost certainly] they always found time for a few kind words of encouragement, which are as important as any therapy. They willingly accommodated most requests, were always helpful. Their positive attitude at all times is to be commended. We are very grateful for the high quality care my mother received.

On behalf of myself and my mother, we wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Powys House (part of Avocet Court). No matter what time of the day or night we are welcomed as we visit our friend who is in respite after illness. The staff answer the door quickly and nothing is too much trouble.
They treat our friend with kindness and dignity, speak softly to her and treat her like a human being. The staff go over and above to accommodate her personal needs and get her outside (which she loves) as much as possible. The staff are always busy doing something useful but do not appear rushed and hasty. They are attentive to the bedroom call alerts and have the utmost empathy. They dress neatly and professionally. There is very little smell to the place, it is quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of free parking, the gardens are well-kept, the furniture is basic but very acceptable.

Many thanks to you all, I hope the message gets passed to you that you are doing a wonderful job.

My mother-in-law, who is 98 years old, arrived here at Avocet Court Care Home in November 2022. From the day she arrived, she has received the very best care. Coming into reception you receive a big smile and a courteous welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for the general manager and all the staff
that work in the "houses" are very caring and patient towards the residents.

Avocet Court Care Home is set in lovely kept grounds. The staff who work there all seem to be very happy and efficient, always there to help and support the residents. I visit as a friend but show family members take great comfort that their loved ones are well cared for. I usually meet my friend in
the cafe which is very light and nicely decorated and makes the visit more pleasurable

My husband came here for nursing care straight from the hospital following a fracture injury to his pelvis/ The welcome I received from the receptionist was so reassuring and caring. She is an exceptionally excellent front-of-house person.
The unit staff were warm, kind, capable and positive in their
care and support of my husband. He was kept clean and attended to throughout his stay here.
Each member of the team treated him with kindness and respect, clearly conscious of his confusion and health needs.
The physiotherapy team were excellent; they encouraged and talked to my husband about exercises and updated me too.
I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to feedback on the level of service provided. Sincere thanks from the patient and I.

The manager has been a constant support in almost my 11 years dealing with them whilst my mum was a resident. My mum received excellent care and a great team effort that saw her live to 97 and 3/4! There was a carer here when Mum arrived that is still there today and I cannot speak highly enough of
this person. The home was so upset at my mums passing as she was a little dear and it was rather quick and unexpected. They deserve some award and I hope you're able to do this. Please keep me informed.

A very clean, pleasant and professionally run home. All the staff were extremely friendly and caring towards patients and visitors. After an accident and hospital care, this amazing home has helped my family member regain strength and rehabilitate, whilst treating him with care and maintaining his dignity.
A wonderful place. Highly recommend.

My visit was on 16/06/23 after receiving a phone call the day before from a conscientious, polite young lady who was a carer, amongst other things, asking for Mum, a fan and to top up her money account. When I arrived, I met some new staff. Firstly, a bubbly, friendly, with a big smile receptionist
who was very accommodating. When I asked if I could see the accounts manager, I was told that she had just gone into a meeting, but would I like a coffee and wait - I said thank you. Then, when I met the accounts manager, who took me to her office, where she came across as polite, professional and articulate, answering a couple of queries that I had to a very satisfactory standard.

My mum was there for a short time, her room was not clean and she was left in the same clothes for about three or four days and just left in bed. My mum fell over and I was not told what was going to happen to her. Some of her clothes when missing. I am her son and I was not very happy.

Our dad was in Avocet Court for 3 weeks being cared for as he was end-of-life. The care and attention he received was excellent. The compassion that we were shown as a family, particularly on the night of Dad's passing, was fantastic.
Dad and ourselves were treated very, very well. We were very happy
with all the staff whatever their position/role was. We couldn't thank them enough.
Can't comment on value for money as Dad was funded.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.729)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.729) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 57 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (508 Excellents x 5) + (134 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 665 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 56 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 56 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
