My mum was transferred to Avocet after a brief stay in hospital, for an assessment of her care needs. The staff were super friendly to Mum and looked after her well, and after just 2 weeks Mum was able to be discharged home. I think it is fair to say that the room Mum had was more on the basic side,
but it did have a private toilet which was ideal for Mum. Mum enjoyed the meals and loved chatting with the various members of staff. Whilst Mum didn't want to join in with the activities, there was a regular programme of events that everyone was encouraged to join in. The cafe in the main entrance is lovely and welcoming, and the cake is delicious! All in all, I am very pleased with how Mum was treated over her relatively brief stay here.
Reply from The Manager, General Manager at Avocet Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us a review, it was lovely to hear your positive comments which we will feed back to our team. You and mum are always welcome to pop in for coffee and cake anytime it would be lovely to see you.

It was such a relief when my relatives became temporary residents at Acovet Court. They were treated with great respect by all professionals involved with their stay.
Although they had difficulties settling this was not through want of trying and patience from the staff.
They were all most kind.
Phone calls were welcomed and reassuring. The range of activities available was amazing. Avocet certainly improved the quality of my relatives' lives.

My husband was previously in another care home and became increasingly distressed at being kept in his room each and every day. Since moving to Avocet Court he has become much calmer and enjoys mixing with other residents in the day room. In his previous home, he didn't eat, but by the second day at
Avocet, he was eating half of all his meals and is much happier now.

Mum has been taken care of with professional and kindness and alwats treated with respect and dignity. She has been made to feel welcome and comfortable and says that nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We, as a family, have been impressed with the care and attention Mum has received. Our peace
of mind that she has been in a safe and secure environment means more than we can express. Thank you to everyone who helped Mum feel at home and us welcome at all times.

I am in here temporarily but if I needed a permanent care home I would not improve on Avocet Court Care Home. The manager is perfection, the staff are wonderful, so caring, nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, very well cooked and a great selection. The facilities are great and as for
Christmas preparations, superb. My family visitors are amazed at what everyone does for us.
Thank you to the manager to everyone else for a lovely stay.

My mother stayed here after suffering a stroke. The room was clean but basic. We found all the staff to be very helpful, kind and compassionate and cheerful. Mum was looked after well, kept clean and well dressed. The food was nice but there could have been a bit more variety at lunch. She got very
bored of soup. Activities were provided which Mum enjoyed. The gardens were nice with a nice table and chairs area to sit in.

When I was sent here from hospital, I was very frightened. I needn't have been, as the staff were very welcoming and helped me in every way to settle in, from the staff, carers, ladies who brought my meals, to the cleaning staff. Have made lots of new friends who I will miss very much. It's a very happy
place, very warm and comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone. Everyone I have met were kind, it meant so much to me. Thank you.

My Mum spent 6 weeks in Harlech, the dementia unit at Avocet. Her dementia had made her fairly quiet, as opposed to other residents who were shouting, banging on doors etc. She found the environment intimidating and often didn't want to leave her room and spent a lot of time alone (when we weren't visiting).
Her personal care was poor and she took many weeks after leaving Harlech to heal properly. On a plus, their entertainment person was superb. He worked so hard with the residents.
We moved Mum out as soon as we were able to.
I can only comment on Harlech and do understand the other buildings feel very different.

My 93 year old mother suffered a stroke in April 2023, and after two months in Heath Road Hospital, Ipswich (where she received excellent treatment), she was moved to Powys House, where she stayed for over two months. During her time there she received excellent care from a very friendly, caring and
professional staff. The house was always clean, devoid of unpleasant odours, well run by an active and engaged management team, relatively quiet with pleasant well tended gardens with seating. My mother was treated with dignity whilst being encouraged to actively pursue her recovery and we were impressed that, whilst the staff were clearly busy and stretched, [under resourced almost certainly] they always found time for a few kind words of encouragement, which are as important as any therapy. They willingly accommodated most requests, were always helpful. Their positive attitude at all times is to be commended. We are very grateful for the high quality care my mother received.

On behalf of myself and my mother, we wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Powys House (part of Avocet Court). No matter what time of the day or night we are welcomed as we visit our friend who is in respite after illness. The staff answer the door quickly and nothing is too much trouble.
They treat our friend with kindness and dignity, speak softly to her and treat her like a human being. The staff go over and above to accommodate her personal needs and get her outside (which she loves) as much as possible. The staff are always busy doing something useful but do not appear rushed and hasty. They are attentive to the bedroom call alerts and have the utmost empathy. They dress neatly and professionally. There is very little smell to the place, it is quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of free parking, the gardens are well-kept, the furniture is basic but very acceptable.

Many thanks to you all, I hope the message gets passed to you that you are doing a wonderful job.

My mother-in-law, who is 98 years old, arrived here at Avocet Court Care Home in November 2022. From the day she arrived, she has received the very best care. Coming into reception you receive a big smile and a courteous welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for the general manager and all the staff
that work in the "houses" are very caring and patient towards the residents.

Avocet Court Care Home is set in lovely kept grounds. The staff who work there all seem to be very happy and efficient, always there to help and support the residents. I visit as a friend but show family members take great comfort that their loved ones are well cared for. I usually meet my friend in
the cafe which is very light and nicely decorated and makes the visit more pleasurable

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.743)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.743) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.743 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (472 Excellents x 5) + (116 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 608 Ratings = 4.743
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 51 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
