My visit was on 16/06/23 after receiving a phone call the day before from a conscientious, polite young lady who was a carer, amongst other things, asking for Mum, a fan and to top up her money account. When I arrived, I met some new staff. Firstly, a bubbly, friendly, with a big smile receptionist
who was very accommodating. When I asked if I could see the accounts manager, I was told that she had just gone into a meeting, but would I like a coffee and wait - I said thank you. Then, when I met the accounts manager, who took me to her office, where she came across as polite, professional and articulate, answering a couple of queries that I had to a very satisfactory standard.

Friendly, kind and respectful. I have two young children who feel comfortable and content to visit their grandad. The staff made my dad feel welcome and valued. They also have made the family feel like that. Couldn't do enough to help Dad and the family settle. Thank you all!

My mum was there for a short time, her room was not clean and she was left in the same clothes for about three or four days and just left in bed. My mum fell over and I was not told what was going to happen to her. Some of her clothes when missing. I am her son and I was not very happy.

Our dad was in Avocet Court for 3 weeks being cared for as he was end-of-life. The care and attention he received was excellent. The compassion that we were shown as a family, particularly on the night of Dad's passing, was fantastic.
Dad and ourselves were treated very, very well. We were very happy
with all the staff whatever their position/role was. We couldn't thank them enough.
Can't comment on value for money as Dad was funded.

Overall the staff are very friendly and helpful. Mum is kept clean and comfortable but could do with more help with feeding. Her room is satisfactory but could do with decorating at some point. For her needs, she does get value for money.

The staff are all very attentive to the needs of residents and visitors and can't do enough to help. The in-house cafe is an excellent place to have the family with plenty of space, it's clean and comfortable with a great selection of hot drinks, cold juice, and light snacks. I would recommend to anybody
who has the need for care that Avocet Court Care Home is the best place to trust your loved one's care needs are taken care of.

Mum placed here for palliative care, have no complaints at all, everyone goes above and beyond to help her, mentally, medically, physically, the social side is very good but Mum doesn't join in. Food excellent and often she has asked for something off menu and received it. Rooms always clean and tidy,
staff friendly and compassionate. Our questions always answered. Will apply here when my time comes.

I would like to thank all the nursing, canteen, domestic and office staff - especially at Powys House for their combined services - ongoing - to my uncle. He came, he saw, he got better! From being very unwell in hospital, he is now so much better, looking and sounding like his best self - and actually
enjoying himself. Thank you all once again from all the family.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.735)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.735) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 61 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.735 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (547 Excellents x 5) + (141 Goods x 4) + (24 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 712 Ratings = 4.735
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 60 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
