Mum's room was clean and tidy and the staff we interacted with were so empathetic and helpful. We (my wife and I) were able to take Mum to the internal cafe for a coffee and cake in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Great job and thank you.

All the staff seem very friendly and helpful whenever we phone. Even with the tough times of the last 2 years. We visited from far away and again very helpful and accommodating staff. Mum seems happy and well cared for most of the time. Due to covid, some restrictions are still in place, therefore the
review is based on what we have seen so far.

My nanny had a short stay at Avocet Court Care Home after a long time being in hospital. From the start, the staff were very welcoming and treated my nanny with respect. The manager of Cilgerran took the time to speak to the family and explain the process of what would happen during my nanny's stay.
My nanny is now home but often talks about how well she was cared for at Avocet Court Care Home.
Reply from The Manager, General Manager at Avocet Court Care HomeThank you for your comments about your nanny's recent stay at Avocet Court Care Home. Our residents’ well-being is our main priority and it is great to hear that you were so pleased with the quality of our care. We always appreciate individuals taking the time to give their feedback and we are very pleased to hear that your nanny had a positive experience. All of our staff are committed to providing the best possible care experience for all of our residents and it is very rewarding to have their efforts recognised.

Avocet Court Care Home cared for my grandad whilst on respite, he was so happy and so look after in the home. Staff were excellent, very attentive, and ensured all his needs were met. Food was brilliant, with lots of choices. Management were very present in the home, taking time to come round and speak
to residents and family which was really nice.

Had a parent in for end-of-life care and I cannot thank the staff enough, not only for the care given but for the support we received as a family. All staff interacted with residents brilliantly and treated them all with the utmost respect, the infection control was second to none. The management was
fantastic, especially after my parent passed. The whole time was very personal and I am grateful for the service we received as a family, they made a very difficult time a little easier.

Avocet Court Care Home is a lovely care home. The staff are friendly and welcoming and Mum is always clean and well cared for. They do a lot for the residents to make it a happy home for them to live in. Mum took a while to settle but everyone was very patient with her until she did. If there is ever
a problem or query they are very quick to resolve it. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for care.

We have been very impressed with Avocet Court, they have always been very informative and keep us up to date on any changes in my mother's care. They have been very patient, caring, and understanding of my mother's needs as the dementia progresses and there has always been someone at the end of the
phone we have been able to talk to. Staff doing a very good job in difficult times!

There are big security problems in this home. Whilst a resident in the home £1800 went missing from my mother. The management seemed uninterested when I reported her bank card being used outside the home in Asda, taxi rides, take away meals, mobile phone top-ups (she does not use a mobile phone). All
while she was bedridden, as she falls if walking unaided and in isolation, due to being Covid positive. Only when other agencies got involved did any action take place. The staff member has now been given a 26 week suspended sentence and ordered to pay my mother and other residents a total of £4000 compensation. I received no apology or communication as to how the home intends to prevent further lapses in security.
Reply from The Manager, General Manager at Avocet Court Care HomeWe are so sorry that this incident occurred. We can assure you that this has been dealt with through the proper channels with all appropriate agencies involved. You will be receiving a detailed response shortly and should’ve received an email confirming this. If there is anything else we can do in the meantime please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I am very grateful for the care given to my husband but:-
- I do not like the fact of no ensuite - commode use and it leaves a smell in the room which is unpleasant for the resident and/or visitors using the room.
- I can't comment on activities, food, safety/security, value for money because I have
not witnessed or been told of these.
- The staff work hard but there are too few to deal with patients/residents, eg. we waited 20-25 minutes for staff to come to assist with toilet needs - not good - for relief and dignity.
Staff are caring and polite.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.735)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.735) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 61 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.735 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (547 Excellents x 5) + (141 Goods x 4) + (24 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 712 Ratings = 4.735
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 60 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 60 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
