We have been very impressed with Avocet Court, they have always been very informative and keep us up to date on any changes in my mother's care. They have been very patient, caring, and understanding of my mother's needs as the dementia progresses and there has always been someone at the end of the
phone we have been able to talk to. Staff doing a very good job in difficult times!

I had respite at the home and had such a good experience, very welcoming and having people around when you need them. My room was clean, warm, and comfortable and the food was great. I look forward to spending some more time there again soon.

There are big security problems in this home. Whilst a resident in the home £1800 went missing from my mother. The management seemed uninterested when I reported her bank card being used outside the home in Asda, taxi rides, take away meals, mobile phone top-ups (she does not use a mobile phone). All
while she was bedridden, as she falls if walking unaided and in isolation, due to being Covid positive. Only when other agencies got involved did any action take place. The staff member has now been given a 26 week suspended sentence and ordered to pay my mother and other residents a total of £4000 compensation. I received no apology or communication as to how the home intends to prevent further lapses in security.
Reply from The Manager, General Manager at Avocet Court Care HomeWe are so sorry that this incident occurred. We can assure you that this has been dealt with through the proper channels with all appropriate agencies involved. You will be receiving a detailed response shortly and should’ve received an email confirming this. If there is anything else we can do in the meantime please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I am very grateful for the care given to my husband but:-
- I do not like the fact of no ensuite - commode use and it leaves a smell in the room which is unpleasant for the resident and/or visitors using the room.
- I can't comment on activities, food, safety/security, value for money because I have
not witnessed or been told of these.
- The staff work hard but there are too few to deal with patients/residents, eg. we waited 20-25 minutes for staff to come to assist with toilet needs - not good - for relief and dignity.
Staff are caring and polite.
Reply from The Manager, General Manager at Avocet Court Care HomeMany thanks for your kind feedback regarding our incredibly hard working team, we will ensure we pass this on to them. I’m so sorry we are unable to offer en suite facilities at this time. Kindest regards.

Mother joined your home in January and in that time covid restrictions applied - from viewing her room and the home and visits covid made things difficult. In her stay, every member of staff made her welcome, comfortable, and Mother liked them (important!). They did their utmost to communicate as extremely
deaf. All staff encountered very polite, extremely kind and helpful. Questions answered quickly, responses very good. Would recommend and am entirely happy with all aspects.

My Sister was a resident for just over a year until she died on 27/11/21. During her time at Avocet Court, she was given lots of care and attention. She bonded with so many of the team/staff while she was there in her unit, Cilgerran, and the office staff. We are so grateful to all at Avocet Court.

The staff were very caring with my Mum and treated her with dignity right to the end. They were all doing a good job under difficult times and deserve a pay increase!

In my particular case, I found myself here due to lack of carers for my needs at home. During my 5/6 weeks, I can only highly praise all the staff for their kindness, understanding, and compassion for which I will always be truly thankful and I have promised to return to say hello once I am back to
full health.

appears to be an excellent care home.

During a very difficult and emotional time for my mum and myself, all the staff from office staff to care staff did everything possible to make the time my mum spent in Avocet a positive step. Every time I phoned nothing was ever too much trouble. She was cared for and treated with respect and dignity.
The only reason I needed to move mum was to be closer to me. Praise to all the staff at Avocet Court. Thank you.

My Mum and Dad are living in Avocet. They went in December 2020 after being very ill in hospital, unable to ever return home. It is difficult for me to comment much as I haven't seen the home, the rooms etc because of covid. They choose to stay and speak very highly of the carers and the way they are
being looked after.

This review is based on my experience since my wife became a resident from hospital at Avocet Court on 23.12.20. My dealings with the staff (I phone on a regular basis), secretarial, nursing and carers are of the highest standard - helpful, considerate and patient. Their time and concern for me is most
reassuring and the care for my wife is exceptional. I was fortunate to have a pod visit with my wife on 01.02.21. The safety procedures and the process were explained to me in a friendly and authoritative manner which reassured me. The visit was very successful and I came away knowing my wife is in a safe and caring environment.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.743)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.743) out of 10 for Avocet Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.743 for Avocet Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (472 Excellents x 5) + (116 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 608 Ratings = 4.743
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avocet Court Care Home is based on 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 153 registered maximum number of service users is 30.6, which has been reached with 51 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
