Well it didn't last! My earlier review only reflected the situation for the first 4 weeks of Respite. After that things changed dramatically and ended up with me having to take my partner (who has Alzheimers) out of the home for her own protection and terminating the contract. Following 2 attacks from
a patient with dementia she was moved to another section where everyone had physical issues not mental ones and they all remained in their beds all day. She had nobody to mix with except one guy with capacity who was allowed to take advantage of her. This was a shocking experience. If you care for your loved ones you should not bring them here.

Rendlesham provided very good facilities, the whole complex was always clean and welcoming. The staff were always helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They took very good care of my sister-in-law in the last months of her life.

I chose to come to Rendlesham Care Centre after having hip replacement surgery for onward recovery. The staff are all lovely and so friendly and helpful. The place has a good feel about it. I was able to join in with activities which I really enjoyed. My room was sunny and contained all I needed for
my two-week stay.

My aunt's stay at Rendlesham Care Home has been a wonderful experience for her and myself. I can't find fauly in any area of her care here. Unfortunately, as her care needs have changed over the last few months, a closer home to me would mean I could see her more regularly. I can't say thank you enough
for the wonderful care she has had.

I was only in care centre for 10 days. It covered the christmas period.
My short stay was made very comfortable and I enjoyed Christmas. I should be back again for two weeks, after I get or if I get my op for hip replacement. Management and staff were all very kind and caring.
Reply from Rhiannon Freeman-Gray, Divisional Marketing Manager at RendleshamThanks very much for taking the time to review us! We're delighted to hear that you were so happy during your stay over Christmas, and look forward to supporting you when you return after your hip replacement.

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
The room was not fit for use, no water in the cold tap, broken loo roll holder, loo seat to low for elderly person and no grab rail. No bedside light and light switch to overhead light by door. Room door "whumped" each time the door in corridor was opened. Snail trails on carpet in room. Broken alarm
call. Mother not dressed properly, no socks and no bra, and pad on wrong way round. Mother found in tears on first day of stay and intimidated. Had been told was never going to leave again. When we said we'd take her out for a cup of tea she said she wouldn't be allowed to come. Fellow resident, who spent his time in the dining/common room, shouted continuous stream of filth. Not his fault but not suitable backdrop for mother's meals. When we removed mother, after two nights, an item of clothing had been lost and to this day not found. (It was labelled.) All subsequent calls to care home met with promises to call back but that never happened. Cold water in tap and other issues not resolved.
Reply from Nicole Howarth, on behalf of the team at RendleshamThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. The staff have always been approachable, friendly and efficient. Though I haven't had a chance of personally witnessing activities within the home, there seem to be various things for the residents to take part in and invitations to them regularly offered to residents. I am most impressed by the standard
of food. Residents are made to feel really at home with freedom to come and go, as they please (if safe) and take part in as much or as little as they want. Overall a caring and pleasant care home. Well done!
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at RendleshamThank you for sharing your kind words about Rendlesham. I have recently started to volunteer at Rendlesham care centre with my dog Scout (Pets As Therapy) and today was my third visit.
The care centre has a very lovely and bright environment whilst also being very safe and secure which is something I noticed almost immediately. It is very clean and welcoming
and the staff are lovely. I am mostly escorted by the activity staff and sometimes Community Relations Manager. I was impressed that they knew all the residents personally and they try and introduce me to everyone. It's great to see the residents interact with Scout, I think she really makes a difference. Scout loves all the attention and fuss and we always leave there with great sense of satisfaction knowing we have made a difference to someone's day.
To be honest, it was Rendlesham care home that inspired me to become a PAT dog owner, we both get so much enjoyment from our visits and it's lovely to get to know the residents, they always have some lovely memories to share.
Reply from Laura Reeve, on behalf of the team at RendleshamMany thanks for taking the time to leave us a review and for volunteering at our home, our residents and team look forward to you and Scout visiting, your visits have had a positive impact on our residents who enjoy making a fuss of Scout and sharing their stories with you. We look forward to seeing you both when you next visit.

What a fantastic care home. My father was there for the last 9 months of his life. He had Alzheimer's and was both mobile and at times aggressive so a difficult patient to look after. Finding a suitable home was to prove a major issue; after short stays he was rejected from two care homes and I tried
to get my father into some 17 other care homes. Eventually I found Rendlesham Care Home which accepted him and looked after him with great care and affection. The care home got him on the right medication, he settled in and spent the last few months of his life as happy and comfortable as one could hope for - a big thank you to all the wonderful staff who looked after my father in his last days.
Reply from Pearl Hope, Home Manager at RendleshamMany thanks for your lovely comments about the care your father received while with us, it was our privilege to care for your father and to hear that he was happy, settled and felt at home with us means everything , the care and services we deliver as a team to our residents and families is extremely important to us. Your comments have been passed on to the team who will be delighted to hear your feedback.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.401)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.401) out of 10 for Rendlesham is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.401 for Rendlesham is calculated as follows: ( (179 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (16 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 279 Ratings = 4.401
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rendlesham is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
