Living abroad it's difficult to ensure the safety and care of my grandma, however, I have found this in the staff/care team at Bloomfield. After coming out of hospital we needed to find a centre in which there would be tailored care and support that was built on a person-first philosophy. My family
and I have witnessed this carried out during recent visits. The staff treat my grandma with both dignity and respect which is paramount.

I cannot rate the home highly enough. Mum is treated as an individual and is warmly greeted in name by all the staff as they go about their duties. The home has such a lovely warm and friendly, family atmosphere and provides plenty of activities to enrich the lives of the residents.
Mum says the food
is amazing and the staff are so friendly. It is a lovely, clean and modern environment where I am quite happy to take my young grandchildren to visit Mum and they enjoy the lovely, free homemade cakes in the reception area. When I leave I go away happy knowing that Mum is being cared for in the best place she could be.

From day one, the care has been exceptionally high. All the staff are caring, and competent and treated Mum with dignity. All the family were made welcome and nothing was too much trouble, day or night. I'm glad we chose Bloomfield for Mum's final days, she was treated so well. You should feel very
proud of all the staff here. Thank you so much to every one of you.

My mum lived in Bloomfield Care Home from April 2018 to September 2022. Her move involved being uprooted from her home of over 50 years, where she had lots of friends. Staff and residents supported her transition to this new way of life. For this, we are enormously grateful. From November 2019 she was
blind, bedridden and very frail. All staff supported her and she built strong relationships with many, especially during Covid. Their love and care sustained her through months of having no visits. Despite her frailty, Mum continued to enjoy food. The kitchen staff were happy to produce food that she liked.
As a family, we always felt welcome and part of the team, helping Mum live a rich and often joyful life. Any problems that she had were dealt with professionally and with compassion. Mum was very sociable. She knew how hard everyone worked to keep her comfortable and appreciated their interest in her life stories and their embrace of family and friends from far-flung places.

All the staff are always dressed smartly with crisp and clean uniforms. They treat each resident as an individual and get to know all of their likes and dislikes. Whenever there has been a misunderstanding with communication, as you would expect there to be with memory problems, the staff and management
take the time to get to the bottom of things, which reassures the family and residents that all is well. My relative chose to live in Bloomfield nearly 7 years ago and has been extremely happy with her choice, we as a family have peace of mind that she is as safe and happy as she can be. The atmosphere of the home has returned to a relaxed family feel now that COVID regulations are at a minimum and the staff support family and friends through what can be stressful times. Overall they deserve 5 stars.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.843)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.843) out of 10 for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.843 for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (334 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 389 Ratings = 4.843
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 102 registered maximum number of service users is 20.4, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been working in health and social care since 2005, I have a nursing background and achieved my Bachelor of Nursing in 2004. I love my job and find it extremely rewarding to work in a care home setting rather than a clinical hospital, I am privileged to have such a long-term involvement in someone's life and to make a difference in their day, putting a smile on their faces and helping them with any concerns they might have.

I am a mother to a lovely little girl, aged ten and the wife of a very supportive husband. We love spending precious time together and have many hobbies, such as playing the piano, singing, riding our bicycles and having friends around.

I joined Bloomfield in December 2025 and have really enjoyed becoming part of the team. Before this role, I worked closely with young children in a school setting and previously as a carer, which helped me develop strong skills in supporting others, building trust, and understanding individual needs. These experiences have shaped my caring approach and continue to influence the way I work at Bloomfield.

Since joining, I have especially enjoyed getting to know the residents through a variety of activities. I value the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, learn about each person’s interests and life experiences, and help create a positive, engaging environment where everyone feels included and supported.
