My father has now been a resident for a couple of years, and the staff have always been attentive to his needs and show great compassion. The reception staff are your first point of contact and they are always friendly creating a good atmosphere from the start.
It has been very challenging for all
over the last couple of years, but it's nice to see things getting back to normal.

Mum was only with you for a few weeks but your care was amazing and you made her feel at home. On her last day, your compassion to her and to us was just so kind and caring and for that, we will be forever grateful. Thank you.

My mother gets good care for her needs. I know it's been difficult this winter because of covid outbreaks. Hopefully, with the home opening up as normal things will feel better for my mother.

My mum has been here nearly three months, and I can't speak highly enough of the staff and home. It has obviously been a very trying time for the home because of Covid, but they have been brilliant. Their kindness towards the residents and they keep them entertained very well, and from what I have seen,
and my mum agrees, the food is very good.

My mum is at the home on a discharge to assess placement. I had my worries about her being in a home but have to say the care she is receiving is fantastic. The staff are so very kind and caring and their reassurance has made her settle in very quickly. The nursing is fantastic as are all the other
caregivers. She has had a trip to the seaside today and loved it. The activities are great too and encourage them to join. The food is plentiful and looks delicious and management are very good and so helpful.

My wife suffers from late-stage Alzheimer's and is in the dementia wing of the care home. Her carers are wonderfully kind, caring and remarkably patient with her. My wife has responded to their kindness and although generally, her speech is incoherent she will have lucid moments and comes out with
phrases such as 'I do like it here'. This is further evidenced by her smiles when she is with her carers and her compliance with their prompts. Before she entered Bloomfield her Alzheimer's had made her increasingly angry and non-compliant but within a few weeks of being there that anger had evaporated and she reverted to the kind and loving girl I married 42 years ago. My visits have become times of precious memorable moments that I treasure. The staff look after her physical needs well; she is always clean, hair done and well dressed. I am so pleased that I found such a wonderful care home.

From the outset, all staff were exceptionally welcoming. The activities coordinator kept us fully informed of what would happen at all stages. Reception staff were empathetic, caring and efficient. All nurses were exceptional with their care for mum to ensure she had the best palliative care. The carers
genuinely care. I was truly touched by the respect and dignified way they cared. They need and deserve a massive pay rise.

The overall care for my wife is good, but obviously, through the pandemic, it is impossible to judge - other than when video calls are made. The home is by no means perfect and there are minor issues that I have to raise with the care team. Visiting has been difficult at times as Government guidelines
are not adequate (subject to interpretation). The actual care workers are placed under time pressure when dealing with residents, which I do not agree with - personal care takes as long as it takes - the care staff do their best but it isn't nice when supervisors are monitoring their timings.

Generally, all you would expect in a home dealing with elderly and sometimes confused residents. As my aunt is reluctant to wear her hearing aid, I have requested she has help to put it in each day, not sure this is done regularly. Clothing, she has lots of items that are not hers and new items purchased
are quickly lost.

Mum has been a resident at Barchester Bloomfield Care Home for the last 8 years. When she was admitted she came in receiving palliative care and now 8 years on and at the age of 99 she is doing well, can not fault the care she has had. Brilliant staff always there to help, great activities which mum
always joined in when she could. All in all a great place for your loved ones to stay.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.843)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.843) out of 10 for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.843 for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (334 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 389 Ratings = 4.843
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Bloomfield Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 102 registered maximum number of service users is 20.4, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2025

I joined Bloomfield in December 2025 and have really enjoyed becoming part of the team. Before this role, I worked closely with young children in a school setting and previously as a carer, which helped me develop strong skills in supporting others, building trust, and understanding individual needs. These experiences have shaped my caring approach and continue to influence the way I work at Bloomfield.

Since joining, I have especially enjoyed getting to know the residents through a variety of activities. I value the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, learn about each person’s interests and life experiences, and help create a positive, engaging environment where everyone feels included and supported.
