Review from Rosalie G (Sister of Resident) published on 4 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
My sister has been in two previous care homes prior to becoming a resident at Hartcliffe Care Home. Paula has been very happy here, enjoys all the activities, more content has not attempted to leave or not agitated.

The staff are excellent, caring, and friendly to Paula and welcoming when I visit Paula. Previously, I cared for Paula at home until Nov 25 and was unable to give Paula the care she needed following my admission to hospital last year.

Overall Experience

We first arrived at the home to be shown around with a view to a relative being placed there. We were impressed with the warm atmosphere and were greeted by smiles from both staff and residents. The care was high quality & professional, the activities varied & plentiful, the room well laid out but a little small and the food extremely good. Our relative had been lonely at home & unable to cope. After the first two weeks she was very happy to be there for her end of life care. In all, Hartciffe Nursing Home was compassionate and safe.

My mum recently died in hospital.

Spent her last few months living in the care home with dignity, kindness, fun and laughter. Mum had full capacity and had chosen this care home to be South of the River, where she always lived. From the moment Mum arrived to choose a room, and for us as family visiting every member of staff were so engaging with smiles, professionalism and time. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you all - you are special people.

I went to the care home in MHA Hartcliffe, Bristol, to recover and rehabilitate after a hip replacement operation at the hospital on the 2nd of October. The care I received for the next 3 weeks was excellent. As far as I could see, the carers could not be bettered for their professionalism and friendliness. I was most impressed with the care and attention given to all my fellow residents.

All the staff are very welcoming and always say hello, and always happy to help whenever needed. This place has a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and I feel very happy visiting here.
She is enjoying the food, and so is her family, especially desserts, yummy. :)

Hartcliffe Nursing Home is the most pleasant, nicest home I looked at. My husband felt at home straight away. The staff are outstanding in efficiency and pleasant. I'm amazed that this care home is not over subscribed. Communication is key and I've been proved to having made the right choice for my mother. Everyday, twice a day, 7 days a week there are activities for residents to participate in if they want to. Staff are friendly, caring and are proud to work here. The residents are happy and have regular meetings to voice opinions. Their doors are open as proved in a recent BBQ and music event where residents were joined by family.

I have never wanted to go into a nursing home before but after no longer able to cope on my own I knew that this would be my only option. I am so happy now that I gave it a chance because I love everything about the place. The staff is lovely, the home is spotlessly clean and the food is nice. I never thought that I would join in with activities as it was not my thing but I am even enjoying being apart of them now.

Mum who is 93 sadly needed to leave her flat where she had lived independently for 40 years to move into a nursing home. We were worried about how her reaction would be to this after always stating that she would not like this to happen. But we found this home and it certainly changed her mind, Mum has been there 3 weeks now and loves everything about it. The staff are all lovely, the place is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent. Thank you all for Mum's care she is receiving.

Lovely warm friendly environment. The carers are very helpful and residents seem happy. The home provides lots of things to do - bingo, crafts, hand ball (balloon). the food is varied and diets catered for with a choice of menu. My mother-in-law has been here for 18 months and has been extremely well-looked after. The staff provide personal care and attention and she seems very fond of them.

My brother and I are very happy with the care of our mum. All the staff are so friendly and caring with all they do for our mum. The staff always have the time to stop and chat with her and she enjoys their chats with her. She loves having her hair done at the hairdressers and the lounge. When the weather is better they will be able to take her into the garden which she loves to do.

Tracey is a pet lover and keen gardener.

Chris Webb
Chris WebbJob Title:Hospitality ManagerJoined: 2000

Chris was a part of Hartcliffe before it even opened! Having trained as a chef before becoming a hotel manager, Chris has worked in hospitality for over 40 years and helped shape the design of Hartcliffe. Originally from Wales, he still enjoys cooking and baking, as well as taking long walks and spending time with his beloved cat.

Chris said: “I can't believe it's been 25 years since I joined, especially as it was only meant to be a stopgap, as I had just moved to Bristol. To be honest, I got addicted to the job, the residents, their family members and the staff have kept me here. In all my 25 years I have worked here, I always work Christmas Day. For me it's important to spend such a special day with our residents, as for some it may be their last. It's by far the longest time I have spent in a job, and I am so happy I have spent it at MHA Hartcliffe.

"Working for an organisation like MHA, I do feel they appreciate all their staff members, and you are treated as a person and not a number. I know lots of people who work in care, but it's nothing like working for MHA. I'm at that stage in my life where If I want I can retire, but I enjoy my job so much that I can't even think about retiring or moving on. A lot of the staff joke and say that they will see me here as a resident one day!.”
