On the whole, I have been very well looked after at Elm View. All the staff from the medical point of view and otherwise, have been very helpful. The entertainment for the residents has been excellent and enjoyable, and I hope they manage to find someone suitable for this position soon. It has been great to meet the other residents.

Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Elm View Care Home

Food is lovely. It is minced so he can eat it. Laundry some concerns about no trousers in his room sometimes when he has at least 9 pairs that are all marked. Activities are very good. All staff are friendly.

Mum has settled in very well after moving from another home. A little confused to start with but with help from the staff she seems to be settling in well.

Widerie came to the previous home to carry out an assessment and made Mum feel completely at ease which I saw first hand. The staff seem very friendly and attentive to Mum's needs.

Staff always professional and caring. Sometimes the communication wasn't always clear and sometimes difficult to get through to nursing staff.

Activities varied and enjoyable for residents. Warm and comfy room and nice lounge and garden for both residents and visitors. Coffee machine a godsend!

Mum has been a resident at Elm View for just over 12 months.
She really enjoys all the activities and being able to mix with other residents during the mornings and afternoons. From chair exercises to painting and listening to music - the weekday programme is excellent for maintaining physical and mental well-being.
Breakfast is served in her room and Mum appreciates having her lunch in the company of other residents in the dining room. Supper is served in her room which works well with TV or radio for entertainment.
Laundry is of a high quality as is house keeping in Mum's room and all the communal areas.
The choices of food are good and varied and certainly the Christmas lunch that we were able to join Mum for was excellent.
The staff are caring, knowledgeable and helpful across all the teams, housekeeping, catering, office, maintenance and of course care and nursing.

There are good connections with the local GP practice and pharmacy which provide additional reassurance

A lovely care home, superb management.
Chris, as a manager, is excellent. We are sad to see her go.

The only thing that we had problems with was keeping mum's hearing aid working with new batteries; sadly, that problem is no longer an issue.

We were so impressed by the home manager at the residents/relatives meeting. She explained things well, making sure everyone could hear. She listened and gave people time and then she thought of ways to resolve any issues. We were also happy to hear that when Mum had a little fall, the staff were there within seconds. Thank you all. Your smiling happy faces make us feel welcome and reassured that Mum is in the best place she could be.

My parents have both recently moved into Elm View. Our family's first impression is that Elm View is really friendly. The Manager and admin staff are all super helpful and have been extremely welcoming to my parents - nothing is too much trouble. The nursing team are professional and knowledgeable and pay attention to detail. The care staff have all introduced themselves and been very warm and friendly. I have seen many acts of kindness not relating to my parents so the culture of care at Elm View seems of really high quality.
The bedrooms are nicely decorated and the décor is fresh. The communal areas are clean and tidy and all well appointed.
Above all, the home and its grounds is attractive and all the staff are good communicators, which is so important.

My parents seem settled and happy which is lovely. Thanks everyone - and I know if I do have any concerns that the staff are approachable.

Elm View were marvelous when we had to arrange emergency respite care for my father.
They were so kind and caring to all of us on arrival, showing real understanding of a very difficult situation.

My father seems to be settling well, and the quality of food, cake etc is a great hit with him. Thank you all at Elm View for your ongoing care especially the manager, but also all the wonderful staff and admin.

We needed to get an assessment sorted to see if mum could get a chair supplied that would enable her to spend time out of bed safely and would also mean we could move her out of her room to the lounge, so that she could enjoy the activities. Mum has deteriorating needs so it needed to be assessed professionally. We initially thought this would take weeks or even months for a referral, but it was quickly sorted out for us and mum only waited a couple of weeks. She now has a chair suitable for her needs and that will definitely enhance her quality of life. Thank you to the managers in the home for sorting this so quickly.

What kind people who looked after my wife. Thank you so much. What impressed me and my family who visited the home on many occasions was so helpful. The nurses and general assistants were caring for her in her last days. We shall all. Fondly remember theses difficult times where kindness does especially, count.

Overall Experience
A lot of time and money and disruption over more than 4 months has been involved in refurbishment here and it's still ongoing. However I'm disappointed that money hasn't been spent on employing more care staff.
My aunt has assisted feeding, yet when I was visiting her, coffee was brought without sugar (she's been there over 3 years so it should be routine); and no one arrived to assist, or to check we were OK helping her. If I'd not been there, it would have been left on a table she can't see or reach to go cold.
Answer to call bell is way too long, resulting in residents having an accident when they need toilet assistance.

Activities in the lounge are for a small number of residents who are able to access them. A nice activity would be for someone simply to visit the very frail and sit with them for companionship.

My mother has been a resident at Elm View for 4 years now and the care has been wonderful. The new manager is second to none. She is an amazing asset to the home and displays all the qualities one would wish for from a resident's and family member's perspective. She has time to listen, is kind and empathetic and is always willing to go that extra mile for both resident and their loved ones. A true professional, who is proactive, honest, trusted and considerate. Her staff are also superb - always smiling and welcoming. The home's recent refurbishment makes the place feel more homely.
