My mother was very poorly when she was admitted to Summer Lane, having not eaten for several weeks and suffering from a severe chest infection/UTI. The nursing care my mother has received there has been exceptional. Her improvement since January has been amazing. The carers have been able to gradually
and gently persuade Mum back to eating a good balanced diet, and as her strength has improved, she can now spend time in the lounge and restaurant where she has company. The attitude of all the staff at Summer Lane is without exception open, friendly and helpful, and my mother is very happy there.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We are so pleased that Mum has improved and is now able to take part in day-to-day life here at Summer Lane and, more importantly, that she is enjoying it. I will pass on your kind comments to my staff.

My mum became a resident of Summer Lane in August 2022. What I appreciate most about Summer Lane is the warm and accommodating management and staff. Moving to a care home was a hard transition for my mum, but I'm thankful despite the challenges early on, she was met with kindness, empathy and patience.
Since then, I know she has grown to love each of the staff, enjoys joking around with them and giving them hugs. As her son who lives in America, I'm thankful she is not only in a place that provides the practical assistance she needs to take care of herself in this stage of her life but that she's surrounded by people who genuinely care about her.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely review of Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home. We initially placed Dad on a respite stay at another local nursing home as his needs grew, and we could no longer care for him at home. This was a very tough decision, and we did not have a great start as that home was terrible on all levels! This was an awful time as we trawled weekly around every
nursing home with a vacancy, meanwhile dealing with the social services and all of the other services involved in his care, and we felt completely helpless and that we were letting him down. None fitted the bill until we walked into Summer Lane.
Wow, from the initial welcome, the beautiful surroundings and most importantly, being listened to about Dad's needs. The wonderful care and relationship they have built with my precious Dad are amazing, and we are so grateful that he is in your care, and a big thank you to the team for the support that you also show us as his family in what was never our or my dad's ideal situation.
Thank you, Summer Lane.

My wife has been at Summer Lane since October 2021, in the secure dementia suite. The whole team at Summer Lane are wonderful caring professionals making sure my wife is extremely well looked after in sometimes very difficult circumstances. They also worry about my well being which a great reassurance
for our children. I feel we are so fortunate to have found this lovely home it is like a 5-star hotel. Wonderful.

My father became a resident at Summer Lane care home in November 2022. We have found the home to be clean and modern. The staff have been extremely helpful and understanding of his needs and always very approachable.
There is always warm and friendly interaction with staff, even when busy.
As a family,
we are very pleased with our choice of Summer Lane for my father's care and would like to thank the staff and management for their continuing help and support.

My aunt has been a resident at Summer Lane for nearly three years and is still as happy and content today as she was at the beginning. We are always made welcome when visiting, and although always busy, staff are happy to help and are patient and attentive to residents' needs. The recent refurbishment
has created a nicely decorated, clean, bright and efficient environment which still remains warm and welcoming. As we live two hours away, if anything unusual should happen to my elderly aunt, such as a fall, the staff phone me straight away to tell me, and the in-house nursing care provide an immediate assessment and arrange further care if necessary, so I know not to worry. Staff will also accompany my aunt on any hospital outpatient visits she might need, which is a great help to us. We look forward to our next visit when the building works are completed and everything returns to normal.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review, and we are very pleased to know that your aunt is still happy and content here and that you always feel Summer Lane is warm and welcoming. Good communication between us and our families is of the utmost importance, so we are pleased you feel we are keeping you informed at all times, enabling you to feel confident that your aunt is being well cared for.

My uncle has been a resident at Summer Lane for over a month now. First impressions are positive. All staff and management seem attentive and willing to listen to any concerns. The rooms are clean, but the furniture could do with updating. The food appears appetising and varied. The lounge and dining
area have been recently decorated and are very welcoming.
There are currently some building works being undertaken, which can make parking difficult at the moment, but we look forward to seeing the completed project.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for your kind comments. I am glad you and your uncle are happy. We believe good communication is paramount to giving good care, so we are always happy to meet with you to discuss any future issues you may have.

Due to my father having terminal cancer and many falls, it was recommended by the hospice that my father needed nursing care and was unable to continue at home. We were given the option of three nursing homes and chose Summer Lane after looking at their facilities and performance reviews.

The overall care and welfare given to my wife were outstanding from all of the staff, and I could find little fault with Summer Lane care home! And the only reason I moved my wife into another care home was because of the distance involved with travelling to visit her. If given our time all over again,
I would have no doubt about placing her again into Summer Lane care home!

My husband seems to have settled for very well at Summer Lane. It took some time because of lockdown and then visiting with masks on behind a screen, which really confused him as he is very deaf. I am happy that when I visit him, he is always up, dressed and comfortable. It's good to know he is well
looked after when I can't visit when I was unwell myself.

The move into a care home following a fall in September 2021 was an anxious one for the person I have POA. All the staff at Summer Lane were caring, patient and supportive from the outset, and I received helpful guidance to help me navigate through the paperwork and processes.
The home has recently
gone through redecoration and revamps to existing facilities, and there is such a lovely feel to the home - with a beautiful garden room and outside space, hairdressing salon, café and social areas.
Communication between myself, the managers, the finance team and the great nursing team is very good - which is so reassuring.
I cannot praise the team enough for their care, and I am now happy to say that my friend is settled and content at Summer Lane Nursing Home.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a review and such a lovely one. The revamp has gone well and now gives even more lovely areas for our residents and their family and friends to use. I will pass on your kind comments to my staff. Many thanks.

When my husband was offered a place at Summer Lane, we were delighted. All of the staff are so welcoming, friendly and caring. My wife has been at Summer Lane for 15 months now. Overall, we are happy with the service we receive. One regular problem is the loss of various, but especially laundry items. Staffing often seems to be on the low side. The only meal I have seen is the 4.30 pm meal, this always looks good and is well
presented. Because of the staffing situation, the girls have little or no time to spend with the residents.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.810)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.810) out of 10 for Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.810 for Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (316 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 378 Ratings = 4.81
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
