Care and food etc, for my nan, have been incredible with understanding staff who work so hard and are so willing to do everything they can for you. I have always been welcomed with a friendly smile and hello, and they do everything they can to make my nan happy. The only thing I would improve is communication
between head office and relatives - just on updates on Covid rule changes etc, just to keep us updated, but I have no complaints other than that. The care home is always bright and clean, and the rooms are made personal to the resident's needs and tastes.

Some of the care staff are great but there is a couple that treat you like a bit of dirt.
You have to explain how to put a sling on properly as new staff do not get the training. The management does not care about the resident's well-being as you never see them helping out.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeWe are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us at Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home. Since moving into Summer Lane four-plus years ago. l have visited my friend twice a week and have nothing but praise for the staff, who are very professional in doing what at times can be a difficult job when it comes to meeting his daily needs. He has said that the staff are kind, caring and work hard
- meals cater for individual tastes and are wholesome, and there are daily activities for residents to join in if they so wish.
They have recently had a big redecoration up grade with new carpeting and furniture in communal areas, along with a hair salon and a new cafe for residents and their visitors.
I have always been made to feel more than welcome on my visits.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review and for taking the time to do it. We are extremely pleased that your friend feels well looked after and happy here at Summer Lane. The renovations we have carried out are providing many different areas for our residents and families to use, like the fine dining room, which will be lovely for celebrating those special occasions.

My mom was at Summer Lane Care home in Weston. From the first contact, my mom was treated with respect and dignity. They kept me, her daughter overseas, regularly updated on her medical care. The staff helped me Facebook time her, they were always helpful in any requests I had of them. They put my mind
at ease. Polite staff, extremely professional. I would highly recommend their facilities. My experience has been awesome. And even when she passed, they helped me through that process too. Awesome staff and facilities. My mom was very happy there.

Although my husband was only there for two months, he was cared for to the best of the staff's ability. Not enough carers by far to provide the support and care/attention that dementia patients need and deserve. I never met the manager at all. The reception and admin staff were absolutely fantastic
and extremely helpful.

My mother, who suffers from Dementia, has been a resident for 18-months. During visits and through regular communications, often fraught due to the COVID pandemic, the staff have been tremendous. The administrative team have been thorough and professional, and the day to day care that Mum receives appears
to be of the highest order. Mum, who can be very difficult at times, always appears happy and content around the staff. The building, along with fixtures and fittings, is modern, light and airy. They have good security and during the pandemic, as regulations eased, they had put in place strict measures for visiting, which was very reassuring. My wife and I are extremely pleased that Mum has settled in and that she seems to have a good rapport with the staff. All the members of the staff with whom I have been in contact with, have been professional and caring.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you kindly for your lovely review. Covid has made this a particularly difficult time, but we have taken every precaution we could to keep our residents and staff safe and this has proved very successful. We thank our residents and families for their understanding and support during this stressful time. We are very pleased that your mum has settled so well and is happy here and glad that you and your wife are happy with Summer Lane.

The reception, admin, other staff, most of the carers are all good. However, I feel there is a huge lack of human interaction with the dementia patients on the Waverley Unit. I'm talking about love, holding their hands when they are sitting, talking to them, giving them their time, assuring them,
giving them some love, a rub on the arm etc. There are not enough carers and very much an institution rather than the human touch home and the love that is needed. However, there is a need to have at least 2/3 more carers on the Waverley unit (1st floor) purely to give the love and items I have mentioned earlier. This should either their job or, Summer Lane needs to ensure all carers have the time to do this spreading the workload and taking some of the workloads off of them with more carers. I feel it a total waste of money building a 'Pub' and 'Cinema' for the first floor as most of the residents would not understand. Also building more rooms should be replaced by more loving carers.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a review for Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home. We appreciate all comments and feedback. Please be assured that our staffing levels are carefully planned to ensure residents receive plenty of interaction and stimulation. The planned improvements and new facilities at our home have been designed to provide opportunities for meaningful activities for people in a fully dementia friendly setting. We look forward to welcoming you to see the benefits of our new facilities very soon.

Mum has been at Summer Lane for four years now and has become very settled. There is a core of carers who have been there all this time and have established a rapport with Mum. Such continuity is essential since it has provided familiar faces through difficult times when it has not been possible to
make visits. Staff encourage Mum to join in the activities and are sympathetic to the fact that she is over 100-years-old and has hearing difficulties. During my visit this week, she had new hearing aids, was smiling, in a good mood and enquiring about her great-grandchildren. Mum and I are both happy with the care at Summer Lane.

My mum had been in Summer Lane for four years before she unfortunately died earlier this year. So when my dad could no longer look after himself and needed to go into a care home Summer Lane was the only place he wanted to go.
The day he went in the staff were there to greet him like an old friend
which was so welcoming and reassuring for him. He was put into a lovely bright bedroom with his ensuite bathroom. The food has been wonderful, if he doesn't like whats on offer, the chef will make him an alternative to the other choices on the menu that day.
When he's well enough he goes down to the lounge where there are all sorts of activities that he can join in with. He watches old films, they play all sorts of games, have a sing-song and do a bit of light exercise to music.
Summer Lane is a really lovely caring place. The staff from the manager and reception through to cleaning staff are all very helpful.
Can thoroughly recommend Summer Lane.
Reply from Vimal Samuel, Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely comments. In December 2019 both my parents were living in supported care accommodation in Torquay. Mum's dementia was worsening rapidly and Dad fell, breaking his hip the week before Christmas. As 2020 started both were in hospital and I had to find a more local Care Home for them both, suitable for their different
needs. Summer Lane was a breath of fresh air when I first visited to view, compared to homes I had already seen in Torbay, Exeter and Weston-super-Mare. All the staff I had to deal with, from choosing a room, preparing for their needs before arrival and the dreaded paperwork of moving into another Health Trust, was dealt with seamlessly and with compassion. Unfortunately, Mum died in February, a week before their arrival date from hospital. So Dad suffered this loss, a funeral, then an ambulance journey to his new home, within a week!
All the staff have been outstanding in helping him through this tragic time and encouraged him to socialise with all the activities it provides.

Summer Lane ticks all the boxes for us and our family. We are so pleased with the care my husband receives. He is extremely well looked after by all the staff. Any medical issues are dealt with promptly and that is very comforting to know.
The home is spotlessly clean, there is always a lovely welcome
from the reception staff, and there is always someone available to talk to if I have any concerns.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Summer Lane Care Home.
It is a hard decision to put your loved one in a Care Home but we made the right choice in Summer Lane.

I am on the understanding that the home is now on lockdown due to the current UK circumstances, whilst it is upsetting for myself and two other sisters that we cannot visit mum, I applaud you for doing this to keep our mum and other residents safe. We find Summer Lane a very good place for Mum to be
as she is well cared for and she loves the food. The staff are very friendly and the home is lovely and clean. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them - this includes the ladies that bring round the teas. Please keep all the residents safe at this unsettled time for everyone; including all the staff.

My mother-in-law came for respite last year and loved it. She has now moved in permanently, and we as the family are very happy.
As soon as you walk in, it smells nice, staff are always smiling, and you are greeted with well looked after happy residents.
It's always clean, and the nursing staff
try to encourage activities.
Plenty of hot drinks are always offered and the facilities are very good indeed. My mother-in-law is quite fussy, and she's very happy indeed!

The home is always welcoming with friendly staff. Dads room is always clean and fresh and the staff all refer to him by name. Any queries are addressed quickly. My only criticism is that personal care possessions should not be used on other residents i.e electric razors this has happened a few times
with my father's razor which we have had to go and find it. Apart from this all ok.
