My father has been a resident at Summer Lane since 2017 and enjoys living there. Due to the nature of his condition, he initially had difficulty settling into his new surroundings, however, the staff were extremely supportive of him and worked patiently to minimise his distress. Two years later and Dad is very settled there, has a great relationship with the staff and carers and happily sees it as his home.

Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home

Thank you very much for your kind review. It does take time for residents to settle to a new environment and we do try very hard to minimise the distress they go through and I am very happy that dad has settled well and thinks of this as his home and is happy here.

I have been coming here for a very long time to visit my husband. It is a very nice place and my husband is very happy here, If he is happy then so am I. The carers are all nice and friendly and know their jobs. I don't think there is much more to say about it.

My husband has been a resident at Summer Lane for just over 1 year. I have been happy with the care he receives and have recommended it to several people. If ever there is something that concerns me I know I can approach the staff and they will sort it quickly. The monthly meetings for family members are excellent.

Reply from Vimal Samuel, Home Manager at Summer Lane Care & Nursing Home

Thank you very much for your review and for passing on your recommendations. It is always a hard time for people looking for care for their loved ones and to have someone's recommendations will always help that difficult decision. We are also very glad that you enjoy the monthly meetings.

Lovely place, well maintained and excellent food. The rooms are good and spacious. The staff available do their best but for the size of the home and the number of residents, I do not think that enough hands-on carers are available. There seems to be more paperwork than caring and sometimes due to holiday, illness, etc. there is no replacement for activities and so residents are left in the lounge with just the television.

Summer Lane Nursing Home is a purpose-built care home and provides a very good service.
My sister has been a resident for almost a year and all the staff have carried out their duties at a very high standard sometimes under difficult situations.

My sister is happy which helped us as a family and the staff are helpful if we do need any information. So thank you all at Summer Lane.

Review from Richard T (Brother-in-law of Resident) published on 7 March 2019 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
When looking for nursing/care home for my brother in law, I and my wife drew up a short list of three homes to visit. Without a doubt, this home far exceeded our expectations. On our initial visit we were met by a senior nurse who explained in detail what care they could provide, the activities undertaken and showed us the room that he would occupy. The room was on an upper floor with far reaching views and provided with an adjustable bed and air mattress, en-suite bathroom, television and modern furniture, all of which was in immaculate condition. Observing the care that was being provided and the respect being shown to residents we had no doubts that this was the one.

Upon visiting we were impressed from the moment we entered, by the reception staff, the trained nurses and care assistants. Their professionalism and caring attitude towards residents, and also relatives, convinced us we had made the right decision. A relative, a GP, who visited said he had never seen a better home.

We were recommended Summer Lane by staff at another home. My son and I have been very pleased with the level of all-round care given. The entire building is very clean with plenty of window light and decorating maintenance is certainly an ongoing activity.

With 7 day a week coverage, activities and entertainment are well catered for any resident, with encouragement to take part.

The overall appearance of the home on my regular visits to my father is clean, tidy and in good decorative order. Some of the furniture looks tired but always cleaned and free from accidental spills. All the staff are very pleasant and cheerful towards dad and the family, even when dealing with difficult situations.

Management contact in regards to admin, I have little contact with the house, only by telephone to accounts office. The food is good and dad enjoys his meals, plenty to eat and drink and always available in the room or tea room on the floor.

Mum was taken into Summer Lane for respite care when my dad was admitted to hospital. Mum has late-stage Parkinson's and I cannot praise the whole team there highly enough. They are wonderful. From the people who care for her on a daily basis, treating her with dignity and respect and keeping her comfortable, the nursing staff who ensure she gets her medication when she needs it and picking up on any additional conditions which need attention; the facilities team who look after maintenance to a really high standard; the laundry and the catering colleagues; right through to the front of house team who are exceptionally welcoming, efficient and friendly. Sincerest thanks for taking such good care of mum during a difficult time.

Dad has lived at Summer Lane for about 16 months, dad has always been treated with respect and as an individual.
Staff are always warm and welcoming and go that extra mile for both residents and family.
All staff work really hard.
There is always a warm welcome from reception staff.

The downside is the turnover of excellent staff due to the low wages.
