Avon Lodge Care Centre

I would not recommend this as a five-star care home as when recently visiting a friend some members of staff were being very abrupt and it stands out a mile whether they are under staffed. Care and attitude and attention do stand out giving the home a different outlook to all reviews I read before a friend went there. I must say that not all staff come across in this way to be fair but when you see that end-of-life care is treated with... 'when we are all going to die' attitude does not go down well for a care home for loved ones. Seeing first hand, telling a patient in a stern manner to hold and drink from a glass to take meds when they are clearly unwell and notice on another visit a poor patient left with dinner on the table and a cup of tea. No one attends during the day, clearly left alone with no one checking or moisturiser on her mouth, who passed away the following day. I know you're not a hospice where the standard is above and beyond but with payments for homes being so high it’s been eye-opening in more ways than one.

As a family, we feel so lovely that our dad is in the care of Avon Lodge Care Centre. The staff are excellent, so kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. Dad is happy whenever we visit.

My father enjoys the care and the friendly nature of all of the staff whatever their role.

I found the management very good and assuring. The nurses and carers, excellent. The cleaners were very good and friendly. Would I stay there if I had to? Yes.

The care my mother has received is excellent. She looks great and has recovered greatly. The staff are so caring and polite and I cannot thank them enough for the care they have given to my mother. The whole family are thrilled, she is now to return to her original residential home as this was an assessment stay. The staff have made it possible.

Having had previous experiences with two other care homes, I am very pleased to finally have found a care home that really cares for my father. In just one week of his admittance, I could see a vast improvement in his health, both physically and mentally. At last, I am able to have confidence in all the staff who are extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. My father finally has the care he deserves and needs.

The important thing is he felt safe and the staff cared for him in his final days.

The care mother received was caring, compassionate and professional. I also was immensely impressed with the way in which everyone at the home helped and interacted with us in these very difficult times. Thank you, Avon Lodge, for making mother's last days so comfortable.

This is a very good care home. My brother has been there 18 months now. The staff are very helpful and communication is very good. I have no complaints whatsoever.

I was only able to visit my dad on two occasions before lockdown, but my impression was of a caring environment in very trying circumstances. From that point onwards, I was kept constantly up to date by phone in a sympathetic and understanding way, until his death at the end of April. I was unable to experience all of the facilities during my very brief visits and can only judge by what I saw.

I have found the home to be a very friendly and happy home. My friend is very well looked after. She is happy with the staff, loves the food and enjoys the entertainment. The staff go out of their way to please and care for her. I could not have chosen anything better. I also had my husband there. I would recommend to anyone.

My mum and dad have both been residents in this home. My mum has been very well cared for over the past year. My dad was only there for a month but they helped him live and die with dignity despite the restrictions with Covid-19, they did everything they could to allow my parents to be together at the end. The staff have been more than kind and supportive to me and my parents; they are the best!

My mother went in on 27 January 2020. My first impressions were very good, she had been in hospital from end of October 2019 from another care home but they wouldn't take her back so she had Christmas in hospital. Then we had to find another home. Well, I wish we had seen this home the first time. The staff from the time you go in were brilliant. It takes time to settle in but mother seemed to. The staff from management to the cleaning team all care and always had time for you as well. My mother was on Treetops, she passed away on 16 May. With the virus in the lockdown we were relying on staff, we had video calls. Anyway, I would like to thank the staff for looking after her and being with her at the end. Thank you.

The commitment of your staff during this recent crisis is amazing.

I called to speak to my Nan. The carer was on a different floor but said it was no trouble while taking the phone to her. She was very friendly and gave me an update on how my Nan is feeling.

The staff has been fantastic during this very difficult time in arranging video calls to my Mum and generally being very helpful and quite wonderful. They deserve medals.

The home was spotlessly clean. No nasty smells. room light and airy and well laid out. All the staff, from top management to domestic staff were caring, polite, kind, generous with time and comments. They were respectful of her needs and understood her poof sight. they would say who they were and what they were there to do so she knew what was about to happen. Nothing was too much trouble Loved the freedom of being able to make her a cup of tea whenever we wanted to. Having previously worked in this profession, I would say its the best home I have ever visited. Thank you for your dedication.

I would just like to say a huge thanks to the staff and carers, especially in these uncertain, worrying times. It was my dads birthday yesterday, and the staff were very accommodating by bringing him out into the garden so that we, as a family could see him and be reassured, and for him to know we were thinking about him. The smile on his face meant an awful lot to us. I know things are difficult and there is not enough staff, however, I know my dad is being well looked after. A big thank you from the family.

As the family of a resident, we would like to commend all the staff of Avon Lodge for the amazing job they are doing during this awful time. Care workers are working on the most difficult and challenging circumstances and we as families are so grateful for their dedication and professionalism. Thank you so much.
