Majority of staff are absolutely outstanding. There were some teething problems initially, all of which were ironed out by management. All care staff are extremely helpful, and have the most patience I have ever witnessed in a care setting. Dad is always treated as if it is family looking after him.

Reply from Rowena Gillespie, Home Manager at Oaktree

Overall my mum is very happy in Oaktree. It would be helpful to us, if there was another hoist on her floor as sometimes we have to wait a while for the use of the one hoist, otherwise we are quite satisfied with the looking after my mum receives. The staff are always smiling and cheerful which make my mum happy.

Overall Experience

My wife was originally admitted for respite care but it soon became obvious that she would be unable to return home due to the level of care required. She has currently been in Oaktree for six weeks and has settled in well. All the carers and nurses are attentive, empathetic and friendly. My wife has major communication problems that makes it difficult for her to socialise and explain what she needs when trying to communicate with her carers. She has been encouraged to participate to the best of her ability with the activities arranged. She especially enjoyed the pub lunch and the Saturday prom. It is good that family members are welcome to also participate and offer support. I was extremely apprehensive initially about my wife going into care but I am confident that she is in good hands and is treated professionally and with genuine affection. There is definitely a bond developing with some of the staff.

My husband has been at Oaktree for two years now. Well settled, incredibly well looked after with all his challenges. All staff are amazing, so gentle. The atmosphere is calm, peaceful, staff all quite talking to each other and with the residents. All residents are dressed and clean, look almost immaculate. Food is very good with many choices. I am so happy and relieved my husband is here, and I am supported all the way as well. Thank you Oaktree.

Since my father became a resident at Oaktree we have been very pleased & happy with every aspect of the care he is receiving. I have spent time in the company of dedicated, competent, efficient & most importantly to us, kind & caring staff & personnel across the nursing home. My mother & I are confident that my father's health has improved considerably since he took up residence & the peace of mind that knowing he is so carefully & kindly cared for is highly valued - thank you so much.

All in all happy with set up of nursing home feel that dad is safe here and nearly all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Have some very good entertainment and are checked on regularly when dad is in his room. Nurses are very good at telling us what we need to know and do not hassle us with unnecessary information. Think as a family we are happy with his care.

Everyone at Oaktree are very caring. They look after my husband very well & are very professional, when he was ill with chest infection, they were so quick to get antibiotics & save him from going into hospital. Thanks to Tracy lead nurse. They also care for me & give me confidence that Rob is happy here.

My husband has been here for a while now, and he and us are getting to know staff and the way the home is run quite well. As is needs change from day to day they are getting to know how to assist him as much as they can. If I or they came across something we are not sure of then we work things out together and then put in his care plan to help others as well.

On the whole we are happy with his placement at Oaktree.

This is the third respite stay, so I'm obviously impressed. My husband seemed to be well cared for.
The staff are wonderful and happy to speak to me on the phone whenever I phone them.

I am not aware of what activities my husband took part in, so I cannot comment on value for money, as I am self-funding.

My lovely Nana has been living in Oaktree on the upper floor for nearly 5 years. Every time I see my Nana she is content, loved and involved with daily activities. I couldn't ask for better care, empathy and compassion from the staff. Thank you for looking after the most important lady in my life - it means the world! Particular mention to Tracy, Chris, Trudy, Terri and Simon for always doing what's right for my loved one.

On Friday 7th March 2025, two staff and 8 residents went to the aquarium in Bristol city for a day trip. We traveled by minibus. the driver was very helpful getting residents settled on the wheelchairs. 3 choir volunteers came to push wheelchairs, they came by car. We saw the sharks being fed, after a packed lunch we walked round the harbor as it was sunny. We had a sing song on the way home and a big thanks to staff.

I’ve been part of the home since 2016 and have made it my mission to keep a close eye on everything (usually from a sunny spot or a nearby chair!). My favourite things about living here are all the lovely food I’m given and the many warm, comfortable laps I get to curl up on throughout the day.

I like to think I brighten everyone’s day by offering plenty of cuddles, gentle purrs, and the occasional visit when someone needs a little extra company. Whether I’m sitting beside a resident or quietly supervising the daily activities, I always try to bring a bit of calm and happiness to the home. While I haven’t completed any formal training, I’m naturally very talented at providing comfort, companionship, and excellent cuddle support.
