Cedar Grange Residential and Nursing Home

Mum has been at Cedar Grange for some 4 years. I have always found the staff to be extremely helpful and efficient, always treating Mum with dignity and patience. Facilities are modern and still give a homely feel to the place. Mixing with other residents is actively encouraged but staff recognise when Mum needs peace and quiet.

I feel that Mum is in good hands.

When my mother first entered Cedar Grange three years ago we were very impressed with the way the residents were treated. The individual care given to each person and the little extra things the carers did to make them feel a little bit special and cared for.

Over the past year or so we have noticed a marked decline in this very important aspect. We are not sure if this is due to the constantly changing staff, which seems to be the norm recently, but both myself and my sister, who living much closer goes more frequently than I, rarely see the same person twice so we do not know the carers any more. Also there never seems to be anyone we can discuss matters with.

Recently when my sister called mother was in a very unclean state and she wasn't too much better when we visited on a planned occasion.

As regards value for money, top rates are being charged which are being increased regularly, therefore we should actually get premium service.

We have heard that some residents have been moved from Miller because of these concerns and may have to look at this option, although change is not good for people with my mother's condition. This aspect seems to be being ignored with all the staff upheavals that seem to be going on, stability is what is needed.

My mother has been a resident of Cedar Grange since it opened in 2008. Cedar Grange is run by Cornwall Care and in it's brief existence has had a chequered history. At times the management has been very poor and the extremely quick turnover of staff has resulted at times in my opinion to be detrimental to the residents. However in recent times things appear to have settled down, my 92 year old mother seems content and well cared for and currently I have no real concerns. My 88 year old father visits my mother on a daily basis and he too us happy with her current situation. Continuity of staff still appears a problem but my mother has recently moved from one wing to another without it having any adverse effect on her.

Home always looks good and smells good which is not always the case of other homes. Mummy is always dressed properly, hair groomed and never seems messy. She is unable to do anything for herself. She responds well to all the staff, smiling laughing and sometimes gives them a hug. I don't see mummy that often so she now no longer recognises me. Its comforting though to see her responding to the staff and relatives. The food always looks very good, mummy is given lots of hot drink which she loves though. She does need encouragement to start drinking. When I leave I feel happy that mummy is being well looked after with care and dignity.

I find there is a welcoming atmosphere. Residents are cared for and spoken to in a kind and dignified way. They are encouraged to engage in as full a life as is possible. The meals are really good and the premises and cleanliness of a high standard. Every one I meet there really care.

In my opinion my mother is cared for in a professional and sympathetic way. The staff are always helpful and responsive to any questions about my mothers welfare.

My brother is happy and enjoys all the attention given from the staff. He is gaining weight and looks so well, and it is a joy to see him smiling after time alone at his house.

I can't fault Cedar Grange. I couldn't ask for more for my mother, everyone at Cedar is of an excellent standard, on all levels.

My wife had received excellent care from all departments and everyone.

Very nice and friendly place, safe and secure. We are worried about the increasing cost, apparently three price increases in the last twelve months.

Spotlessly clean. Excellent catering and meals. Good communication and meeting for relatives with management at regular intervals. I have always been made welcome when visiting mother. Highly recommended. Ps. excellent induction and training of staff.

I would recommend Cedar Grange as it is a nice, purpose built, homely and friendly place. The rooms with en suite bathrooms are at a very good standard. The staff are very caring and are very good at dealing with dementia which at times is very hard to cope with.

My father is a resident of Cedar Grange. He has dementia. We have always received good care from all the staff. The staff on his suite are great with him and very understanding as her can be difficult and mildly elusive a times. I can only recommend Cedar Grange and thank everyone there for doing such a great job.

She has been a resident at Cedar Grange for nearly three years and at times she has not been happy. Most of the staff appear to go out of their way to be supportive to both my mum and myself for which I am very grateful.

The place has a very good layout and it is always clean, and the food provided is good. Communication from management and Senior staff is poor and could be improved. The quality of agency staff varies hugely in experience and ability, and there seems to scant supervision or guidance from Cedar Grange at the best of times with agency one-on-ones.

The home is professionally run but with administrative, nursing and care staff maintaining first and foremost an awareness of the need for providing a good and sympathetic quality of life for the residents. Indeed all the staff have achieved a family feeling for the home.
