Overall Experience
My Dad, with dementia and cancer initially went to Kenwyn for 2 weeks respite in March. He settled so well and called it home within 3 days so we decided it was in his best interests to make the placement permanent. This settling was thanks to the kindness and care offered to him by every member of staff he meets. Due to his cancer/ dementia he has found it hard to keep weight on. The staff, with support from GP, have been diligent with offering his fave foods, encouraging him with meals, fortified juices, ice creams and weekly weigh ins.
He loves the variety of entertainment including painting, chats, gentle exercise, dog visits, pianist and great singers. He has also been taken out on trips.

Kenwyn has a relaxed atmosphere and you are greeted by name and a smile as soon as entering reception. We know we can talk to staff with any concerns at any time. As a family to know Dad is cared for with love, humour, care and above all dignity is so appreciated. Thank you Kenwyn :)

My fathers transition to nursing care from NHS care was handled well by Barchester, he has felt welcome from the outset. He particularly values the flexibility for his own possessions, aids and momentos that were installed for him. He rates the staff as friendly and attentive but feels at times of high demand care needs can be delayed by availability of staff. He also finds the food to be a little 'exotic' being a simple meat and 2 veg man. Overall Barchester provides an exceptional environment for its residents.

All the staff at Barchester have been so kind and caring with Mum, after what was a big move down from out of County, from another home and whilst suffering with Alzheimer's.
To witness Mum sitting and eating all three meals a day with others, attending music recitals and other forms of entertainment, has been nothing short of a revelation. That is down to the gentle encouragement, kindness and care shown by the range of different discipline staff around the home. The visiting doctor has been excellent too. I also greatly value being able to talk with the management team if needed. As for the look of the fresh cake in reception, one day I'll have a slice!

One very happy and grateful son.

I cannot praise Kenwyn Care Home highly enough. The level of care and compassion is outstanding and my mum has received excellent care here and continues to do so. The staff go above and beyond and nothing is too much trouble. They also extend such a warm welcome to family too, and the range of enrichment activities and entertainment is superb. Everyone goes the extra mile. Without exception, all the staff I have met are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. 5 stars in every category. Highly recommended.

My lovely Mum has been at Kenwyn since January 2025. The care she receives is absolutely excellent, and as her needs change the team have done an amazing job of helping her to be calm and comfortable. The variety and freshness of the food has contributed hugely to her feeling well and helped her to enjoy eating again. Her routine has been adapted to suit her declining health and her comfort is always the priority. The team are always so friendly, professional and deeply caring. Thank you for everything you all do for us.

Overall Experience

We had previous experience of Kenwyn as my mother had been there for the last couple of years, passing in April having reached 100. She was always well cared for and the team were lovely. However, it's a very different thing when it's your husband going in for palliative care, but we are so grateful that this is where he went.

The home itself has a warm, welcoming feel, with spacious corridors, cosy sitting rooms, tea and biscuits always on hand, and lovely gardens to step out into when you need a breath of fresh air.

The team were simply amazing. They couldn't have been kinder - to my husband in his last couple of weeks, and to us as a family in those final days when we camped out with him. They offered food, drinks, and hugs when we needed them, and most importantly gave him the nursing care and support that kept him comfortable and calm, allowing him to pass peacefully and feeling loved. They are a brilliant team with excellent leadership and we genuinely can't thank them enough

All the staff were so caring and vigilant to the residents' safety and well being. Despite the resident feeling that they did not require care, even though they did, they were very supportive. They were also very supportive to me, who has had to deal with various situations relating to the well-being and safety of the resident.

When my dad first came into the home I was anxious and unsure as to how he would settle. It soon became very clear that he was well cared for and treated with kindness and respect. My worries were misplaced. The home is calm and the staff are kind although at times I believe they are understaffed and this could be addressed by management. The entertainment is considered and the music/activities put on for the residents is excellent as too are the menu choices. My dad is happy here.

Our family member has been at Barchester Kenwyn Care Home for nearly 2 years. The facilities and decor are akin to a 5-star hotel. The dining room and menu choices are first class and delicious in variety and taste. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. Above all the service and care from the hugely dedicated care team for the residents is second to none. The compassion and dignity they exude with every interaction is wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble, every day they go above and beyond to ensure the residents every need is met. They do it with warmth, a smile and friendly conversation. They are nothing short of amazing. Special recognition needs to go to one in particular member of staff, she is an angel in every respect and has helped make our relative as happy as she is there.

Worked very closely with the head of unit, who quickly ascertained my mother's situation, needs and indeed, future needs. Additionally, my mother had been suffering from financial abuse and other safeguarding issues. The head of unit was able to ensure measures were put in place to protect my mother. The environment, care, attention and dedication of the team have actually seen an overall improvement in my mother, who has become more engaging and doing the activities she enjoys. Further, I would like to commend the entire team who work under difficult and emotional situations and yet remain super pleasant and always with a smile, warm and friendly greetings. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review for us. It is difficult to read of previous abuse but we are thankful that our head of unit was able to put the correct measures in place to keep her safe. It is heartwarming to read that your mum has improved overall, engaging and enjoying the activities. I will be sure to share your comments with the entire team. Thank you.

Hello and welcome, I am Haley Welland, and I am the General Manager here at Kenwyn Care Home

With over a decade’s worth of experience in health and social care, I am a passionate registered manager with a wealth of knowledge, including managing nursing, residential and community care. I have extensive knowledge in supporting residents with dementia to live well and have a passion for encouraging dementia friendly support within our local community. As a dementia champion and dementia care mapper with the University of Bradford, I am competent in supporting colleagues to understand quality care for those living with dementia.

I have a very active role in the lives of all residents, ensuring resident-centred care is delivered by every member of staff to a high standard. My passion for quality care is fuelled by my own personal experiences of placing loved ones in the hands of care teams. I feel my own experiences have moulded me into the manager I am today, and I take pride in my ability to support residents, families and friends to make informed choices about the care options available to them, including how to live as independently for as long as possible.
