What a Great team the staff at Kenwyn are. My mother who is in the Dementia unit had her birthday today and they put on a lovely display of balloons, banners and made a special cake for mum as she can only really eat pureed food so it was lovely to see they went out of their way to make it special.
I
honestly cannot thank the staff for all they do for my mum and to mum they are her family and that means the world to me.
People are very quick to judge carers and nurses and just presume everything should be done perfectly but do they realise what actually goes into caring especially with very demanding patients who require specialised help.
We as relatives obviously want the very best care and it is very easy for us to say your not doing this or that right but I know if I spent a few days actually inside the home doing the work they do opinions and expectations would change. They deserve our praise so please be nice relatives.

Just returned from a fruitless visit to see my sister who is end of Life at Kenwyn Care Home. Nowhere on the write up about Kenwyn do they advise friends or families not to visit as they have an outbreak of Covid at the moment. At the door, we were told they have been closed already a few days. Why
was this not put on their site to prevent worthless visits? Sometimes family travelling many miles to get here.

After moving to another care home, I realised people actually cared about me. I felt bullied at Kenwyn Care Home which came from the management down. Always talking behind residents' and family members' backs and sadly hiding the truth. Kenwyn used to be a lovely place when I first arrived but it became
toxic and the activities and money they were given during even covid times was zero. Terrible activities and that was really hard for me mentally being locked into a care home.
They are more worried about their chandeliers than caring for the residents. The one person who really cared about me and all of the residents was the Sister on my unit. All the kind and good staff left. People need to know the truth and how they made me feel.

This home was recommended by professionals but there was a definite lack of care and compassion towards my mum. The list of issues is long, basic needs not attended to, very rude manager (think she may have left) both to other professionals and family members and staff. Mum's needs were not met and
were often overlooked. Staff told me on one occasion that she was having CPR when in fact it was a different client with the same Christian name. She went without meds because staff refused to allow entry to a named person despite Government guidelines saying to the contrary. They tried to feed her fish and chips when they knew she was finding it hard to swallow. She could barely swallow yoghurt or ice cream never mind chips! They failed to listen to her needs and suggested instead that we were purely thinking of ourselves. Mum was distressed and confused without the reassurance she needed. The whole experience was horrendous and I would never recommend this home to anyone for a loved one.

Kenwyn is very clean and tidy. There is a lovely warm atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door and the staff at Kenwyn are amazing they are very friendly, caring and professional and nothing is ever too much trouble for them.

During regular visits, I have got to know many staff members at Kenwyn. The reception team are warm, friendly and supportive. I have nothing but praise and admiration for the nurses and carers who work closely with the residents. I admire and commend their fortitude and cheerful, unfaltering dedication
to their work, dealing as they do with a multitude of complex cases. Given that I never planned for my husband to require 24-hour care, he could not be in a better place.

My aunt has resided in the home for 6 months when she became too frail to be at home and needed additional support. The home is beautiful and my aunt says it feels like a home from home for her. She has a better social life with other residents than she did when she was at home. Making friends and doing
activities her mental wellbeing is the best it's been for years and her physical health is being supported.
She enjoys her meals and has gained weight.
The staff are lovely and so supportive and keep me informed as to her next of kin along the way.
This was the best move for my aunt and she is blooming again in Kenwyn.

The manager and her team have created a kind, compassionate and caring environment at Kenwyn. Our aunt and uncle have been treated with genuine care and it has been a real comfort to us, knowing that they are safe. The medical care that they receive is comprehensive and the staff on both Tresco and
Trelissick have been amazingly kind and caring. I have utter confidence in Kenwyn and the staff there; their professionalism means that we don’t need to worry, even during a very difficult time for the family.

My wife was admitted to the care home with dementia. The care that she has received been absolutely wonderful in every way. I feel so reassured after each visit that she is in the best place possible with the condition she has. Most of all she is happy and enjoying time with the staff on the ward who
make the most of every day for my wife. It is also a great comfort to my 3 children and their families who feel exactly the same as me in their praise for the staff and the care home.

My father (84) was only at the home for three weeks before he died. In that time he was treated professionally and with great care. The staff were courteous and understanding of both his needs and our requirements. In these difficult Covid times, a difficult situation was made much easier due to the
staff understanding.

Manager and Deputy Manager were very supportive with all the problems I had with my uncle's care at Kenwyn. All the carers and staff were helpful, caring and considerate. Both my aunt and uncle were very well looked after at Kenwyn. There were one or two issues at the beginning but things greatly improved
after the new manager took over.

My husband has been in Kenwyn for the last eighteen months and he has had wonderful care at all times. He is in Tresco and is quite settled. The staff are excellent and always have time to listen and help. The food is wonderful and great care is taken to make sure it is right for each resident. The
new management has made a big difference and hopefully, all vacancies can be filled soon, making it easier for existing staff. Thank you Kenwyn.

My husband was very well looked after. The staff were very friendly, loving and well trained to look after him. He was 90 years old, a diabetic, nearly blind, bedridden and suffered with late Parkinsons, so needed a lot of attention which he received. The staff handled his death with great respect and
organised the undertakers etc. well.

After being neglected at another care home, I was untrusting of the care system. Kenwyn have restored my faith. This home is amazing, they have turned my fathers life around. They are caring, friendly and personal to both family and residents. They are professional and understanding of the care required.
My father is extremely happy living here, couldn’t recommend it more!

I have extensive knowledge in supporting residents with a dementia to live well and have a passion for encouraging dementia friendly support within our local community. As a dementia champion and dementia care mapper with the University of Bradford I am competent in supporting colleagues to understand quality care for those living with a dementia.


Majority of my career has been working in Cornwall with the local community and healthcare professionals and therefore have a solid understanding of how best to support our local residents.


I have a very active role in the lives of all residents, ensuring resident-centred care is delivered by every member of staff to a high standard. My passion for quality care is fuelled by my own personal experiences of placing loves ones in the hands of care teams. I feel my own experiences have moulded me into the manager I am today and take pride in my ability to support residents, families and friends to make informed choices about the care options available to them including how to live as independently for as long as possible.

Adelina has been a valued member of the Kenwyn team since 2018.


Extremely skilled in her field, Adelina is the Deputy Manager at Kenwyn and has previously been a Unit Manager for our Tresco Community.


Adelina is loved by residents, relatives and staff and works incredibly hard. Her passion for her work and residents stands out.


Adelina has been a nurse for more than 10 years. She chose Barchester due to its reputation for Person-Centred Care.

Ela

Ela Wisniewska

Job Title: Head of Pencarrow Community Joined: 2005

Ela has been a valued member of the Kenwyn team for 20 years. Her dedication to building strong relationships with residents and their families ensures everyone feels truly at home. Ela is passionate about providing the highest standard of care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel supported and cherished.


Outside of work, Ela loves exploring the UK in her favourite adventure so far has been travelling the iconic Scotland NC500 route. When she's not on the road, Ela enjoys realxing with a good movie.

Holly

Holly Rimmer

Job Title: Head of Housekeeping and Speak up Champion Joined: 2018

Hollyjoined Kenwyn in 2018 as a carer, bringing dedication and compassion to her rols. Over the years, her commitment to excellence and her natural leadership skills have seen her progress to head of House Keeping. Holly leads her team with the same care and attention to detail she has always shown, ensuring Kenwyn remains a welcoming and comfortable home for all.


Holly is also Kenwyn's Speak Up Champion and says:
'As speak up champion for the home I act as a voice for colleagues to express their ideas, develop new ways of working and a pathway for them to report concerns. I regularly meet with the manager to discuss the running of the home from the colleagues’ perspective and am grateful that my colleagues feel able to trust me to speak to them.'

Mercy Sebuava

Mercy is an amazing Senior Carer and has done some amazing work both on our Glendurgan and Pencarrow unit!

Martin

Martin Williams

Job Title: Gardener Joined: 2020

Martin first joined Kenwyn in a Housekeeping role, although his ambition was always to become Kenwyn's Gardener.


This year his dream came true and Martin took his longed-for role. Martin absolutely loves his work and it is clear for all to see. 


Kenwyn's gardens are truly a hidden gem and an extension of the luxury Kenwyn offers. He has a lot to keep on top of, but with his passion for his role and Kenwyn, he continues to do a fantastic job.
