Dove Tree House

Hello Heather. Thank you for this really positive feedback with regards to your experience with our care team and care home at Dove Tree House in Exeter. I'm sorry to hear that your client has had items go missing. Given the sometimes complex care needs of some residents, specifically dementia-type illnesses, it is not uncommon for items to get mislaid, misplaced or lost. Some residents will collect and hoard items, others may throw items away into bins etc. Whilst we do our very best to ensure that items do not go missing I agree that it is a good idea not to take in valuable items (especially if small). All rooms do have a locked cupboard/safe but these are not always used effectively by residents who can often be confused. Cash should be stored in the manager's office. Due to infection control protocols, all clothes have to be washed on hot cycles (60 degrees plus) so all clothes must be able to withstand such temperatures. Thank you again for this feedback.

It's lovely to read that your Mum has been happy at Dove Tree for the 13 years that she has lived there. Dove Tree House joined the Stonehaven family in 2012 - so she has been there longer than us. Your detailed review is greatly appreciated, especially for the way in which it highlights the fantastic work of our care team. Of course, the biggest endorsement of all, 'I can honestly say that if ever I had to choose a residential care home for myself, it would be a Dove Tree'. As I get older myself this type of thought increasingly crosses my mind, and certainly, when I visit Dove Tree, I leave hoping that there will be people and places like that around when I need them! It's lovely to read about how well your Mum is doing and how her physical and mental health have both improved since she moved in to Dove Tree House. Yours is a story we see a lot in this business - people coming in to care homes and their physical and mental health improving as they have people to take care of the daily life chores (washing, cleaning, cooking, shopping etc) whilst they can also meet new people and make new friends in a busy and enjoyable sociable environment. It's lovely to read how happy you are with the care that your brother is receiving at Dove Tree. And I agree, this would not be possible if it were not for our excellent care team and managers at the home. I always feel the same way about Dove Tree, it is, indeed, 'just a big happy family'. We hear what you say about care fees - those worries will be being felt across almost all households and businesses throughout the country. Where self-funding residents may be running low on funds please do contact Social Services as soon as possible to alert them that you may need to switch to a local council-funded care package. The local council will do a care needs assessment and, if the care package meets their criteria, should help you to secure a funding support package going forwards. I can only agree - we do have an amazing team working at Dove Tree who clearly place the happiness and well-being of the residents in their care at the centre of everything that they do. I was sorry to read that your nan recently passed away, I'm sure she is being very much missed. I always enjoy my visits to Dove Tree, a care home that does appear to attract (or perhaps develop) a good share of cheeky (fun-loving) older people - I usually get a ribbing for something - and it's lovely! We really don't understand what has happened between your last communications with Dove Tree and this review - but we hope you and your family are well.
We would encourage any prospective residents to Dove Tree House not to have your opinion swayed by two recent negative posts from one family. Please do take time to read all reviews and our CQC reports for the home - and to visit.
Our Covid 19 restrictions were always, and will continue to be, considered and appropriate.

Good afternoon. Thank you for leaving this review following your mother's stay with us at Dove Tree House. To address your concerns - CQC regularly visit Dove Tree House, their reports are published on the CQC website and are freely available for all to read - all are highly complimentary of the care being provided at the home. Your mum, as with all residents at the home, always had water and drinks available. Our care team members, in particular at Dove Tree House, are exceptionally friendly and helpful and did their very best to treat you and your partner accordingly. Your mum was never presented to you still wet having wet herself. Government guidelines were followed to the letter and, indeed, on occasions, as per those Government guidelines, we had to make operational decisions locally at the care home to protect our residents and care team members due to specific local circumstances. We are, of course, very sorry that your mum has passed away.
