After approximately three weeks, Tyspane was referred to as home.
Thanks to all the staff.
Thank you for taking the time to review our home. Respite is a great way to see if the home is suitable for a person's needs and we often find that people who may have been reluctant to come into residential care are pleased and surprised that they are no longer alone and they enjoy the security of...
The home itself is set in beautiful well-maintained grounds that are fully accessible. It is clean, light and airy.
They went over and above to meet the needs of my father, in terms of personal care, eating and drinking and managing his medication. All of the staff were warm, friendly, compassionate and welcoming. Though Dad was only there for the last few months of his life, he truly thought he was at home.
The communication with the nursing staff was excellent, and they were respectful, sympathetic and supportive of my family when my father sadly passed away.
I can not recommend or indeed thank them enough for all they did for my dad. We feel great comfort knowing that Dad was well cared for and comfortable until the very end.
Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review; your comments are truly heart-warming. I will ensure all the staff are made aware that your family were very happy with the care Dad received at Tyspane. It is so rewarding for them to know that their efforts have been appreciated and...
Plenty of interactive activities that stimulate the residents.
Beautiful gardens to stroll or sit in.
Tyspane is about treating people as individuals. Plenty of choices to mix with others or have your own space.
Thank you for reviewing Tyspane. The staff will be delighted to know that you find the home to be warm and welcoming when you visit. Our activities team are always looking for ways to engage the residents in lots of different ways as you have mentioned in your review and we are pleased that your mother enjoys daily life at Tyspane. Many thanks
For the first time since Mom had lived with us, I looked for respite care in order that my husband and I could take a holiday. We visited Barchester Tyspane Care Home to look at the facilities and were immediately impressed with the home, its staff, the facilities and left in no doubt that this would be where Mom would be happy to stay. She thoroughly enjoyed her stay there and will be happy to stay again. Lovely, caring staff.
The staff at Tyspane are excellent, so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The activities team are amazing; they have boundless energy and enthusiasm, and put in so much effort to provide a wide range of activities to suit all interests. They are to be commended. Their social media page is updated daily and is a wonderful way for family to stay involved and see what Mum has been up to!
Thank you for your review. We are so pleased to hear that your mother enjoys all of our activities, the residents at Tyspane are invited to share their interests and hobbies so as they can be included in group or one-to-one sessions. The community are invited in regularly with visits from a...
The care home is very welcoming and friendly. On occasion, food could do with being more desirable and afternoon tea a bit more of an offer to residents in their rooms.
Thank you for writing this review. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our menus and have recently put a new 4-week menu in place which we hope will improve the quality and choices available to residents. We have a date set for our next food forum meeting, the head chef and his team will...
The caring, management and whole team at Barchester Tyspane Care Home have been superb in looking after my mother at Braunton. They are always under pressure from residents and no doubt family members and visitors but are always respectful and considerate. I often arrive at odd times and mealtimes when in the area or passing and they accommodate me and Mum's needs with no hesitation.
How they manage to remain calm at all times is difficult to reconcile.
The organised events are varied and well thought through too.
A big thanks to all.
Best wishes.
Thank you for your review, we are always pleased to hear that our visitors have a positive experience when they visit Tyspane. Mealtimes can be busy but the home takes a "whole home approach" when sometimes staff from other departments help to ensure that the residents' dining experience is a pleasant one. Your positive feedback will be welcomed by all the staff at Tyspane.
I arrived at the Care Home after having a bypass surgery in London. I needed aftercare as I live alone, and Tyspane Care Home had a good reputation and would be a good place to convalesce for two weeks. I extended my stay for another week. I elected to self-care and to look after my own medication. I found it really helpful that I was able to look after myself but staff around if needed. The physio is a great help to get any heart and pulse working under control and gives me the confidence to return home.
We are so pleased that our enthusiastic physio team was instrumental in your ongoing recovery and that this enabled you to feel confident enough to return home, we all wish you well, and thank you for writing this review.
Over the last 12 months, I have seen and felt really positive improvement in Mum's care. I now cannot fault the care that she receives at all. The staff are lovely and kind to Mum and welcoming to us when we visit. The home is super clean, and the food is really good. A special thank you to the entertainment team, their care and the events they put on for the residents are just so special. I watch my mum come alive as she hears her favourite music, as do many others. Thank you.
Thank you so much for leaving this wonderful review. We are lucky to have a great team of staff, who are enthusiastic, hard-working and creative, and I am so pleased that you can see that the residents are always at the heart of all we do at Tyspane. Many thanks.
Staff and care very good. Accommodation and food more like good hotel.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. It is reassuring to know that you are pleased with the support your friend receives at the home and that you all enjoy visiting especially on a recent family occasion when our activities team were able to organise a private party for you all to enjoy together.
Very impressed with the care of my friend. Especially when some friends and family needed a meeting with a resident - excellent service and hospitality from the home, who were very helpful. My friend particularly enjoys the activities.
I would thoroughly recommend Tyspane to anyone else.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, it was a pleasure to look after your mother, she is dearly missed by all. I will make sure your feedback to is shared with all the staff. Once again thank you for leaving a review.
My mother stayed at Tyspane for three weeks during October and November until she sadly died. I found the staff to be caring and attentive. The food was excellent. On my mum's birthday, Tyspane provided a birthday tea free of charge for eight of us, which was a delight for my mum, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend Tyspane to anyone else.
Your thanks will be passed on to all of the team at Tyspane.
Best wishes.
It was lovely to see my friend out in the lounge having some stimulation (exercise class), seemed so much better than when she was kept in bed in her room. She seemed so well cared for and happy.
Thank you for writing this lovely review. Our physio team assess all of our residents to see how best we can support them to enjoy life in our home. They ensure that residents have access to specialist chairs and equipment which allows them to enjoy and participate in the activities included in our "Life Enrichment Programme".
Sadly, my mum died earlier this week, but Tyspane had been her home for just over a year, and she was very settled there from the start. Her care has been very good - kind, considerate and delivered with dignity right to the end. The staff and the surroundings are lovely, and I would recommend Tyspane to anyone.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review. We are glad that we were able to make your mother's last year a happy one; we especially remember enjoying the occasion of her 100th Birthday celebrations with you and all her family. Thank you again.
They looked after her magnificently. As time went on her dementia worsened and she depended more and more on staying in bed and culminating in having to have 24 hours a day oxygen, I can’t thank the carers enough. They did an absolutely spectacular job, I would especially like to thank three members of staff, in particular, for their dedicated work and care for my mum. I would also like to thank two of the nurses for their skills. They all do an amazing job, certainly something I would never be able to do. Thank you also another member of staff for all your entertainment, support and kindness to my mum. Thank you also to the administrators for your administrative work.
I am so pleased that the last years of my mum's life were spent in this amazing care.
We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review, I will certainly share your views with the whole team. I am so pleased that you were happy with the care your mother received during her stay, I know she is very much missed in the home, especially her stories of her amazing life. Thanks again for leaving a lovely review.
Since the return of the general manager the home has been moving forward and feels more lively. With the introduction of a new activities lead and home-cooked food this is a welcome move giving quality to the resident's lives.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your comments are appreciated and we are pleased that the residents and their families are noticing good things with the introduction of our latest Activities and Life Enrichment Programme along with our new menus, this all helps to ensure the residents have a positive and happy experience within our care home.
Thought I was leaving my mother for respite nursing care. What a joke, they didn’t give her her medication or failed to attend to any of the call bells. Had to remove her for her own safety. No staff, non-existant!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are sorry to read that your mother wasn’t happy in our Tyspane Care Home and sadly left two days after admission. We understand how unsettling the transition can be when staying in a care home as the new surroundings will be unfamiliar. We...
The staff were attentive and pleasant.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your respite stay with us and hope that you may return in the future.
My uncle (99 years old) was at Tyspane for about 7 weeks after a fall and breaking his hip and he died last week at the home. My sister and I were delighted with the respect, care and support extended to my sometimes challenging uncle. All the staff were kind and professional doing their best and even my uncle said the 'girls' were lovely. Everyone is a girl when you are 99! The cats were much appreciated by my uncle, especially the one who stalked past his window. I was never aware of any staff shortages and, indeed, felt that the staffing levels were very good. I also thought that the standards of cleanliness were very high. The ability to provide physio in-house was one reason for going to Tyspane but I also appreciated the wide range of degrees of care as the days went on. Thank you to everyone. I highly recommend Tyspane.
We really appreciate you taking the time to write this review, your comments will help other families looking for a "good" care home. We always feedback to the staff who will be delighted to know that they were able to make a positive difference at the end of your uncle's life. Thank you again for recommending us.

Meet the Team (14)

I am a registered Nurse and live locally with my husband and 2 daughters.
My role at Tyspane is to make sure that our residents lead happy and fulfilling life making the best of each and every day.
I have an ‘open door’ policy and will do my best to support staff members, residents and their families alike.

Hi, my name is Bridget and I live locally with my husband and 3 children. I love to spend time with my family enjoying outdoor activities such as the beach and the countryside around beautiful North Devon.
I graduated in 2013 in Zimbabwe, worked at a hospital and joined Tyspane in Jan 2017. My role involves planning and delivering person-centred nursing care, and mentoring and supervising the care team to promote the delivery of excellent care to residents.

I am responsible for all administrative and financial aspects relating to the running of the home. I have been with the company for some time now and love meeting the residents and their families.
In my spare time, I enjoy long bike rides, trips to the beach and time with my husband. We love spending time with our family, especially our 5 grandchildren.

Physiotherapy Assistant
Babs main interests are keeping fit and she spends a lot of her spare time as a fitness instructor, holding various classes around the local community.
Babs has been our physio assistant working alongside Rob our Physiotherapist,In 2016, she was awarded the 'Devon Best Practice Award' for her flexicise class. She owns our 'pamper dogs' – her three Maltese – who deliver papers with her in the morning.
She is band 4 in physio and really tries to make residents' day fun; she very much believes in the 'if you don’t use it, you lose it' mentality, so she always encourages residents to participate, regardless of mobility concerns, because everyone is able to do something!
