Reviews

9.1 Elburton Heights has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.100)

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for Elburton Heights is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 15 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Elburton Heights in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.335 for Elburton Heights is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 179 Ratings = 4.335

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.765 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elburton Heights is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 17 positive Reviews (85 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 13 Reviews ÷ 17 Target = 0.765

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother has been very poorly with dementia for about 4-5 years. In this time we tried to keep her in her own home, which we managed with great difficulty until 12 months ago. Since April this year, my mother has been moved 6 times, each time being very unsettling for not only her but also for us. Last week we moved her into Elburton Heights nursing home and we feel that a big weight has been lifted off our shoulders. From the minute we walked through the door my partner and I looked at each other and knew it was the right place for mum to move to. It had a very calming atmosphere and the residents look very happy and well looked after. All the staff we have met are very kind to the residents and family and nothing is too much trouble. I know my mother is very poorly and her condition will only get worse, but I know they are making her as comfortable as possible. There is always something going on to keep the residents happy, music, films, coffee mornings each week. We are so grateful.

Thank you very much for sending such a touching review for Elburton Heights Care Home. I am sure your experience will do much to reassure others who are looking for care for a loved one. The team are always there to support and assist you and your family so, please be sure to raise any concerns you might have, no matter how small. Kind regards

On my initial visit/enquiry staff were very helpful and informative when showing me the facilities. They were able to accommodate my mother at short notice and provided an environment where she was able to make good progress in recovering from a stroke. I was always welcomed when I visited, the staff were all very friendly.

My wife has been in this care home for around twelve years and she has been well looked after all this time. She takes part in some of the activities and has been out on minibus trips. I pay her a visit almost every afternoon and am always made most welcome and looked after by staff and management. I have Sunday lunch with my wife every Sunday, the food is excellent.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to review our home. so glad to hear that there are so many positive aspects to the care and attention which you both receive from the home team. Kind regards

My aunt is well cared for. She is always clean with clean clothes. Management is easy to approach if there is a problem. Coffee mornings on a Tuesday for residents and relatives are good for meeting other families. There is always some form of entertainment for residents. My main issue is staff have to spend so much time filling in paperwork which means less time spent with the residents.

Thank you for your review. The feedback you have given regarding paperwork is an interesting one, as the care team would love to be with their residents 100% of their working day but it is a fact that excellent care is backed up with excellent record keeping. Our care teams are well trained and understand there is a need to keep up to date and detailed notes to support excellent person-centred care and those notes are invaluable for the healthcare needs of our residents. Interestingly, the inspection of all supporting paperwork is very much a major part of the detailed inspection by CQC, the regulator of care homes and, therfore, it has to be in place. That subject aside, great efforts are made in the home to ensure that residents are comfortable and happy and it will please both the activity team and care teams that their hard work has been noticed. Thanks again. Kind regards

My aunt is happy in their home. Staff are friendly and approachable and we see the same faces when we visit. The staff who deal with the laundry are very efficient and residents appear clean and tidy. Staff also care well for the resident's personal hygiene. I feel that staff spent too much time on paperwork - filling in files about the residents rather than actually communicating and interacting with them.

Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Elburton Heights responded to this review on 29 Mar 2017:

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to review our home. We take all of your comments on board and thank you for the positive feedback you have given. With regard to your comment about paperwork, I am sorry to say that as much as our care team would love to be with residents for all of the day, part of the care role is to complete some very necessary paperwork. As you are no doubt aware, every resident has a personalised care plan, itemising how care should be delivered and also essentially, recording that the care plan has been met. Following delivery of care to residents, all has to be recorded and any changes to the care plan, no matter how small, have to be highlighted to ensure continuous standards of care for every individual are met. In fact, when CQC, the care home regulator, and the local authority visit the home, they are fastidious in their auditing of our team's notes and remarks. Hence the care team have to be equally fastidious in the completion of our resident's individual records. So, time has to be taken to ensure that staff adhere to the expected protocols for accurate record keeping, as it is recognised as being very much part of delivering excellent care, keeping standards of care high. I hope that I have put your mind at rest and reassure you that despite how it might appear, the care team are continuously working for the well-being of our residents. Thank you again for your review. Kind regards

The staff are very friendly and do all they can to help and make Mum comfortable. They treat Mum with respect and dignity. The bedrooms could do with a makeover. The garden is lovely. Mum enjoys that in the summer.

Thank you very much for writing a review of Elburton Heights. The standards of care are our first priority and to hear that you consider care is delivered in a caring and dignified way is greatly reassuring. I can also assure you that since Harbour Healthcare has taken over the home as providers of care, a programme of redecoration has been put in place and is well and truly underway. As you can appreciate, it is not always easy to decorate bedrooms when they are occupied and with this being such a popular home there is not always the opportunity to move residents to empty rooms while bedrooms are being 'made over'. But, we will get round to all rooms and decorate, with new flooring and furniture as well, if necessary, but the process is not always as quick as it might be, so apologies for that. Kind regards

This is a review over the 18 months period that my wife has been in residence. I have a great respect for all staff at the home. Ever since we arrived here, they have shown a good standard of nursing and care displayed. It enables one as visitors to be sure that their loved ones are in safe and capable hands. I also find it very easy to get guidance over any enquiries I have.

My mother has been here for 6 years the standard of care has vastly improved under the new management. Staff are friendly and helpful. Over the years I have got to know the working of the home well and the staff that have been here for this time. I think my mother is well cared for and considering she cannot communicate with speech the staff anticipate her needs very well. I can tell that she is very fond of some of them and that they like her.

Room does require recording (but partly the resident's fault as he wouldn't wait for room to be decorated before moving in). Wheelchair cleaning needs to be done on a regular basis. Staff are excellent.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to review our home. We appreciate your honest feedback and hope that you will take the opportunity to review again as the home continues its programme of improvement and decoration. Most importantly, however, I was pleased to see you consider the dignified manner in which your mother is cared for to be of an 'excellent' standard. Thank you once again for your review. Kind Regards

Springfields Care Home have been looking after my very special Mum since January 2014. She has always been treated with love and respect. Also, they have been so supportive towards both my husband and myself when my health has made it difficult for us to see Mum as often as we would like to do.

Dementia is a dreadful condition and all the staff through from the cleaners to the on-site management are experts in caring for residents with the condition. We are happy to recommend the home and every member of staff to anyone looking to find an excellent residential home for a loved one.
