The staff at Abbey View have been brilliant all the way round. We experienced a warm, friendly and welcoming environment, from our initial contact through to the end of dad's stay. Nothing has been too much trouble. The care and attention that he has received has been second to none. The staff have
spent time helping him to gain confidence to walk and improve his mobility so that he could return home as quickly as possible.
For my sister and I, Abbey View has given us excellent support, telling to relieve concerns following his immediate post op weeks - Thank you!

I have been at Abbey View since the 27th February, firstly on a respite contract and now on a permanent contract. I have found all the staff so friendly, helpful and nothing is too much for them. I found the transition from leaving my home to moving to Abbey View a very big and difficult adjustment.
All the staff have been so supportive for which I am very grateful for,

My mother is very happy and exceptionally well looked after in this lovely home. It is friendly, clean, caring and mum has made new friends with common interests. She feels she is part of a community again, a feeling she thought she had lost as her mobility in her own home declined. Abbey View has restored
her confidence and given her joy in her life again, if not quite literally a spring in her step. With good food, new friends and great care, it has been wonderful to see mum's mental health and physical health improve. Thank you, Abbey View

Mum has been living in Abbey View for 2 1/2 year ages 95 years. Most recently, breast cancer was caught in the early stage by a very diligent nurse at the home. The loss of mum's walking mobility means she has to rely on excellent nursing staff for personal needs. We find the staff very welcoming, kind
and helpful. Food is delicious thanks to an excellent chef. WE note staff working very hard and provide high standard of service. Staff are happy to listen and help at all times, finding a more comfy chair for mum. Good nursing support for mum going to hospital appointments. We feel greatly reassured that mum is well looked after with vital support, which gives peace mind. We thank you for all you do.

Throughout my fathers 30 month stay at Abbey View Care Home in Sherborne, he was given excellent care. The staff were always friendly, cheerful and patient, when necessary. Dad always had a smile on his face when he saw a member of the team. His last few years were in a secure, comfortable and cheerful
environment, all that you might look for. Thank you.

Abbey View have been immensely kind and helpful during a difficult period.
The entire experience has been professionally handled, and with great ease, from admission onwards. One thing stands out, however, which is the staff. Everyone has been courteous, caring and friendly. We could not ask for more,

My mother was a resident at Abbeyview from January 2024 until January 2026. She moved into the home a year after our father died. Mum and Dad had been married for 60 years.
Mum was very anxious about moving into Abbeyview. She had the early onset of dementia and her mobility was limited. However, the
team at Abbeyview made her very welcome, helped her make friends and took great care of her as her dementia progressed. This excellent level of care was maintained right up to Mum's passing.

After visiting my parents at Abbey View for almost a year, I have been impressed by the caring and welcoming atmosphere. Residents and visitors are treated as individuals, and staff are almost exclusively long-term members of a high performing team.
During his final illness and subsequent death, my
father was treated with great dignity and compassion. Staff remained on duty after the end of their shift to ensure continuity of care and empathic support for his wife of nearly seventy years, as well as members of his immediate family.

It is difficult to portray in words just how wonderful this home is. I put my mother here for respite back in January and she has stayed here ever since. What makes this home so wonderful is the staff who are amazing. Every member of staff is happy and always willing to help, regardless of their official
role and what is being asked. The staff and the home have a real family feel. When something is happening with mother, such as a hospital appointment, every member of staff knows who I am and what is happening with my mother. This is a reflection of the communication amongst the staff and it really shows. I have seen newer more expensive homes where the staff isnt such a positive. This is one of, if not the, best home I have seen. Anyone looking for a home for an elderly relative, whether for respite or permanent residency, will be very hard pressed to find anywhere as good as Abbey View

I came in for four weeks as my family were all away at the same time and they do my shopping/washing etc. If I was here, they would not worry. I know most of the staff as I take a Bible study group once a fortnight and also several residents. Also, my mother was here 10 years. I had a wonderful welcome,
which continued throughout the four weeks. The staff was so caring and attentive. The food was excellent and varied. I slept well and made good friends. There is such a warm, friendly atmosphere here.

In my search for a good care home for my older sister, my priorities were to look for a home that was rated highly by, the CQC and where the staff showed kindness, compassion and good nursing care. In addition the home had to be comfortable, well furnished and with a good atmosphere.
I was struck by
the warm welcome I received in reception and throughout the home. The staff in their distinct uniform to indicate their roles, are a very united team who treat a resident with dignity, make them feel nothing is too much trouble.

An excellent service in all respects. The personal care of my condition was very caring and sympathetic by both the nursing and care staff. The medication was always prompt and well organised, and as initially I felt a little confused at times, there was never any problem in when or what should be taken.
The personal care was very good, The meals were always varied and encouraged me to eat more. Being also Coeliac, was not a problem for the excellent chef, As I became more mobile, it was possible to visit the garden every day, to exercise my rather reluctant legs, I was initially rather reluctant to go into respite care, but whilst I hope not to repeat the experience, I have retuned home in a much better state.
There are no complaints, all the staff were so kind, understanding and supportive, and I thank them all with respect and gratitude. They put me back together. Thank you

My mother came to Abbey View in April 2023 and settled wonderfully during the eleven months she had with you. From the first time we visited, we have been treated with care, kindness and friendship. Mum became increasingly fond and used to care, nursing and activity staff alike and was able to share
important aspects of her long and happy life with people who really listened so well. As a family, we can not thank all the staff enough, particularly in their support and care of us in her final week with you. You are just a super, super team.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.831) out of 10 for Abbey View Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.906 for Abbey View Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.906
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey View Nursing & Residential Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
