Magna Care Centre is an attractive Mediterranean style building located within a beautiful conservation area. It offers the highest levels of specialist nursing, dementia and residential care including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and long-term care for individuals or couples.

The home provides light and spacious accommodation throughout with wonderful landscaped gardens specially designed to be attractive in all seasons. The gardens feature a number of attractive water features, palms, exotic plants and terraces which have commanding views across five acres of grounds.

The team at Magna Care Centre take pride in supporting independence and variety. Staff are all dementia trained and understand the importance of meaningful activities. Through a dedicated activities plan generated by two onsite activities coordinators, residents' hobbies and interests are encouraged and supported at the home where possible.

Dining is an important part of the day to day life at Magna Care Centre. The chefs, along with the hospitality team, work hard to offer varied menus whilst promoting a balanced diet. Specialist training also equips the team with the skills to offer all residents a positive experience, including those living with dementia or dysphagia. Outside regular meal times, residents can enjoy freshly ground coffee and snacks and the popular snack bar.

My uncle was in your home for a short term of respite. He seemed very happy to be there although he said, "there is no place like home". However, he told me that he had been in several homes for respite care and this one was the best. Thank you.

The staff are always friendly and the residents are happy and cheerful when they are interacting with the staff. The activities for residents exceed our expectations. Families of the residents are treated as one of the family of the care home too which is lovely. I cannot recommend this home enough.

It is never an easy time to consider a mum needs extra care and safety, so many considerations to choose a residential care home. The Magna has proved to be the best choice for a home from home open warm and comfortable environment for mum. Whether for support, care, dignity, fantastic caring team or
the freedom of family to visit anytime. It's a pleasure to recommend The Magna Care Centre for care, food and for life's support.

Looks are deceiving at this place, my Mother was here for respite, the care she received was appalling, she was left in soiled clothes and several times left soaking in urine, medication given at wrong times and some were not given, she didn't eat as the food was awful. We ended up taking her out as
quickly as we could.
Reply from Teresa Freeman, Home Manager at MagnaWe are sorry that this reviewer was not happy with the care their relative received a year ago in September 2017. The comfort and care of all our residents is always our top priority. My door is always open to discuss any problems or issues you may have and we would urge people to come and talk to us at the time of any problems so that they can be investigated and resolved.

My Mum spent nearly a year in this care home before her death on 19.06.18.
I cannot over-praise this establishment.
Every aspect of the building, food, grounds and particularly the staff were excellent.
You would be hard-pressed to find anywhere better.
The staff became friends to us and Mum.
We
miss my Mum but we also miss the staff.

The nursing and care staff has reached a standard beyond expectation. The staff the cares for my mother are dedicated devoted to the long-term welfare of my mother. The staff appear to be cherry picked from the numerous applications. I would recommend this establishment to all and everyone in need of

Since mum was admitted in March, she has been extremely well cared for. The staff are very kind and professional. The staff have not only been good with mum but also a huge support for me at this very upsetting time.

The home is in superb grounds and a lovely outlook for mum who is bed-bound. It

is very clean, rooms well decorated, a home from home.

It is the best decision my brother and I made choosing this home and would recommend to others.

After moving my Mother away from another care home how I wish we had found Magna so much sooner. I cannot fault the place. The staff are happy and committed. They work as a team from nurses to housekeeping, from the kitchen to carers they are all dedicated to the residents and go out of their way, on
all fronts, to make sure everyone is happy and cared for. The rooms are light and airy with beautiful views. The whole place is spotless. The food is varied and delicious but they are very willing to cater for little whims and fancies. There is a coffee bar for visitors which includes lovely cake! There is a variety of activities which vary from week to week so no boredom here. The residents have regular meetings and are involved in choices & decisions. There are also regular meetings held for families. It is in a quiet rural setting with extensive, accessible grounds. So pleased at the fuss and care they give Mother and the wonderful support they give to me. Definitely a home from home.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.880)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.880) out of 10 for Magna is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 59 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.880 for Magna is calculated as follows: ( (611 Excellents x 5) + (81 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 693 Ratings = 4.88
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Magna is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2010

With over 16 years at Magna, I lead a dedicated and compassionate team committed to delivering exceptional residential and nursing care. My background in intensive, elderly, and stroke care shapes the person?centred, dignified approach I bring to every aspect of our home.

Having progressed from Registered Nurse to Deputy Manager and now Home Manager, I have a deep understanding of our residents, their families, and the local community. I’m passionate about creating a warm, respectful environment where meaningful social connection enriches daily life. Making even one person’s day better is what motivates me.

Magna is a relaxed, home?from?home setting, and the welcoming atmosphere is a true reflection of the incredible team I’m proud to lead. Their kindness, commitment, and willingness to go the extra mile are at the heart of everything we do.

When I’m not wearing my manager’s hat, I’m a busy mum of three and can often be found out walking our little dog, Bob.
