That Grevill House is a special place is apparent immediately on walking through its doors. The atmosphere is friendly and positive, the residents are clearly comfortable and feel at home, and the staff - from caterers and carers through to nurses and management - are committed and kind-hearted. The
end-of-life care my Mum received was truly excellent and I cannot thank Grevill House enough for that.

My husband spent a short time at Grevill House after being in hospital for nine months with various medical problems.

He was well cared for, with respect by all the staff employed there. The staff were always happy to discuss any concerns you may have with regards to your relative.

This review pertains to Ashley House. In other words a rehabilitation centre and a highly professional organisation.
Everything is organised with that in mind. Helpers are kind but firm, pushing a bit more to get patients fit(ter).
Altogether a splendid facility.

I couldn't believe that I had suffered a deep vein thrombosis and after three weeks at two hospitals, I am so grateful to have been transferred to Ashley House.
I have found Ashley House to be a wonderful facility. To have the privacy of a room and an ensuite bathroom provides comfort, peace and calm.
Having
an expert physiotherapist design and support me through an individually adjusted programme to achieve mobility and independence is brilliant.
When I was admitted I was given such a warm welcome, I immediately felt comfortable.
I have found all the staff to be extremely caring.
They are all so cheerful with ready smiles and delightful natures.
It is a bright and positive place to be.

The nursing home is of a high standard of efficient while being pleasant and caring to the residents. My wife was there for three years and I visited daily. The nursing staff always responded quickly to any concern I expressed. The other staff were always pleasant and helpful which made my visits a
pleasurable experience although the accommodation is basic it was adequate and one could add furnishings it one wished.

My 88-year-old father became a resident of Grevill House in May 2016. As soon as he entered the Care Home the relief and happiness returned to his demeanour and outlook. Whilst the home is well established and in need of some updating, the staff and facilities are outstanding. Never did we see a
staff member without a smile on their face. We were so relieved and assured that father received the finest care. When he passed away in July 2017 his final weeks of intensive care were exemplary.

After a spell spent in hospital it was deemed my partner required care home nursing. How lucky she was in being accepted by Grevill House. The love and care she received could not, in my opinion, have been bettered. During our many visits, we always received a welcoming reception from management, nurses,
carers and others who contribute to the benefit of residents. May I on behalf of family and friends express our sincere thanks to one and all.

As my husband is in bed mostly - the staff always seem pretty good at coming in regularly to turn him which I'm pleased about. Although my husband is unable to join in things, from what I've seen, the carers seem to go all out to make the most of special occasions eg. Birthdays, Halloween and Remembrance.
The only small complaint, the room could do with a freshen up but this is secondary to care, which is good.

Our family were greeted with kindness and upmost respect at a very sad time as my husband's brother went there for end of life care, on his passing the staff on duty were fantastic, we are a large family and we were provided with refreshments all day from arriving at 9.30am until we left 10pm ish. Excellent
management and very caring staff who all looked very smart. When he did pass he was treated with upmost dignity, respect and care.

Staff are very welcoming and caring. It took a little while for them to deal with my husband as he cannot talk after a stroke, but soon with their sense of humour and 6th sense they managed. The room was spacious but intolerably hot this month. Very hard to get a really cold drink- however we cannot
fault the dedication and professionalism of all staff. Thank you for making my husband and myself feel at home.
Reply from Joe Caine, Home Manager, Grevill House at Grevill House and Ashley Intermediate Care CentreThank you for taking the time to send in a review of Grevill House. I am pleased that you were happy with the care and support we provided during his short stay with us. In terms of food and drink, I am sorry that this did not appear to meet your expectations. We do our best to cater for all tastes, taking account of dietary preferences and will always offer an alternative if desired, and it appeared that your husband had a good appetite and ate well. With regard to activities, our dedicated activities coordinator organises a full programme in consultation with residents, getting to know their preferences as they settle into the home over a period of time. I can, however, appreciate that sometimes it is not possible for individuals to take full advantage of this, particularly when with us for a relatively short time.

My aunty was taken into Grevill House, suffering from C.O.P.D, during the time she was there all of the staff were faultless, nothing was too much trouble for them. Also they were friendly and helpful towards me, answering any questions I had. All I can say is the staff are brilliant. You hear of bad
homes, but this is one of the best. They made a difficult time for me easy, as my aunty was my last relative,

My stay in Ashley House has been a real pleasure and therapy towards my recuperation. The management and staff have been wonderful in nursing and caring for me, beyond the call of duty and have helped me so much on my road to recovery. I cannot praise them enough. The joy having a very pleasant room
to myself has been a big part in my recovery also, sheer bliss after sharing a big ward!!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.573)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.573) out of 10 for Grevill House and Ashley Intermediate Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.573 for Grevill House and Ashley Intermediate Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (229 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 323 Ratings = 4.573
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grevill House and Ashley Intermediate Care Centre is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
