  • Westgreen House, Wotton-under-Edge
Westgreen House sits in beautiful mature gardens filled with wildlife, close to local village shops and amenities in Wotton-under-Edge.

The professional but friendly and compassionate care team offers residential care to people who need help with daily living, nursing care for residents with complex medical needs as well as respite care to give families a break.

Residents are never short of something to do. The busy activities programme includes trips out, bowling competitions and visits from entertainers and singers. Westgreen House has good connections with the community and regularly receive visits from local churches and schools.

To ensure that residents feel at home, they are encouraged to continue with hobbies and pastimes and make their own choices about what they want to do.

Another aspect of helping residents to feel at home is for them to do familiar things. If they had a hobby or pastime they did before they arrived, the team will encourage them to continue it. Or perhaps they may like to learn something new.

The important thing is that they treat every resident as an individual. If they enjoy sharing time with others, either in the home or on an organised trip out, they’re most welcome. Or, if they prefer quiet time alone, that's respected too.

We visited several care homes when looking for residential care for my wife who has dementia and our visit to Westgreen House put it streaks ahead of the others. Considerations included outlook for the residents, catering, activities, cleanliness, and personnel. During our visit we were warmly greeted
by all staff we came across which was the deciding factor along with 24 hour nursing care. Since my wife has been living there all staff continue to greet us very warmly and clearly are looking after her very well. Catering is also excellent.

My father entered Westgreen House in March 2022 and unfortunately passed away in September 2022. All the time he was there, he was treated with the utmost respect and dignity by all the staff from admin through care workers to nurses. I was completely satisfied with the way he was treated and would
recommend Westgreen House to anyone.

I placed my father in Westgreen House based on the recommendation of my friend. My first meeting with the manager was very reassuring that they could manage my father's needs. I was given a tour of the home, it was reassuring to see that significant improvements were being made to the facilities. I
was offered a choice of rooms, all were freshly decorated. Levels of staffing were excellent, both care and nursing staff. Polite, attentive and aware of Dad's status. The nursing staff were exemplary, they were so on it. They were all friendly, helpful, informative and very skilled. Sadly my father passed away but during his three months with Westgreen House, he received excellent care. Thanks to all!

The management and staff provide a safe, caring environment for Mum and the other residents. This has been particularly appreciated throughout the covid-19 crisis. I have full confidence in their commitment and ability to provide my mum with both physical and emotional support that she needs. The home
and gardens are pleasant and welcoming (as are the staff). Mum (who was always a fussy eater) thoroughly enjoys the food, and the activities help to occupy her day.

We have been very pleased with the care Mum has been given since she arrived in March. Unfortunately, she was settling in and even enjoying activities then Covid19 happened. Through no one's fault, she mainly stayed in her room. We have noticed she had deteriorated as she hadn't any visitors etc. So
glad now we can come and visit.

Had to make a quick decision regarding nursing home care for Mum as hospital needed bed, and discharge her into the care sector Kingswood Lodge was recommended by a friend whose relative had been cared for previously. After our visit and meeting staff and getting a feel for the home, we were happy to
place our Mother in their care. We have not regretted that decision.

My sister has been here almost 3 years and every effort is made to make life as comfortable as possible. Staff, on the whole, are kind and supportive. There is a varied activities programme with something on each day. I also read poetry and play music at times and help. My sister is supported to undertake
activities and helps to run something at weekends, so staff use her skills and she enjoys it.

My aunt has been a resident for nearly a year and I am extremely happy with the care and support she receives. The centre has such a family and friendly atmosphere with lots of activities to keep residents stimulated, involved and active. The staff feel like extended family who genuinely care and put
the residents first. It gives me great reassurance that she is treated with dignity and is being supported to live a happy and actively rich life in a happy, friendly and very professional environment.

My mother had respite care at Kingswood Lodge Care Centre for 12 days and was well looked after and recovered well enough to go back home after a fall and stay in the hospital. The family were very pleased with the care and attention given to mum by the staff during her stay.

My mother-in-law was very happy for the last 2 and a half years of her life she spent at 'Kingswood Lodge Care Centre'. She had the care she needed and encouraged to take part in a varied programme of activities which she thoroughly enjoyed. At the same time she was able to retain as much independence
as possible, which was important to her. The staff have been caring and friendly at all times - both to mum and to us.

Overall, extremely well run, largely due to Deputy Manager. For most of the past year she has had to cover for absent or non existent managers. This has restricted the time she has been able to devote to individual patients. Activities, excellent due to the staff who provide a wide range and personally
encourage residents to take part. Nursing care excellent though as busy on admin numbers of agency nurses have to fill in, spoiling the continuity of care. Food adequate and well cooked, rather old fashioned and stodgy to suit most residents, too many carbohydrates for people unable to exercise. Cost has to be kept down to meet council grants, so staff numbers just sufficient.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.217)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.217) out of 10 for Westgreen House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.875 for Westgreen House is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.875
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.342 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westgreen House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.217
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
