Situated on beautiful grounds on the edge of Somerset, professionals provide first-class 24-hour nursing and residential care and for those who are living with dementia in a modern purpose-built home. The purpose built 17 bedded unit dementia unit called Willow was opened in 2023 and is a beautiful addition to the care home.

The home has beautiful well tended gardens with an outdoor dining space alongside woodwork areas and a retreat for those who are keen gardeners.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. Their dedication can be seen across the board - in their cooking, hospitality, housekeeping, front of house team and not least of all their professional and experienced nursing care staff. In addition to this they are very proud to have a dedicated team which includes, physiotherapists who work alongside an enthusiastic recreational crew providing a holistic approach to 24-hour person centred care.

The home atmosphere supports a home from home feeling, supporting independence and collaborative working with family and friends. The dedicated team will guide and support in all aspects of care and recreation.

They look forward to welcoming you to The Manor Care Home so that you can experience first hand just how wonderful a place they are and how ideally suited they are to meet your needs now and in the future.

I wanted to express my family's sincere thanks and gratitude for the care, compassion and kindness all the staff at The Manor gave especially to my mother, but also to us.
Mum arrived with you 10 months ago and we did not think she would be with you very long, she was so poorly. However, with the care,
both medically, but also practically, she recovered and indeed thrived enough to regain some of her independence - and certainly her spark! That was down to a very dedicated and special team, from the cleaners, laundry staff, carers, entertainment staff and to yourself.
In particular I would like to express my deep appreciation for everything that was done for Mum in the last days and hours. The Nursing staff and every one of the carers made myself, my family who visited, and most importantly, my mother feel supported and helped so that she had a peaceful death.
You are all trained and experienced in dealing with this, but we were made to feel a very personal sense of care and concern.
Reply from Aime Bown, General Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you for your kind and heartfelt words. Your appreciation of the whole team means a great deal to everyone. Supporting both residents and their families at such an important time is something we hold very close to our hearts.
It was a privilege to care for your mother. She will be fondly remembered by our team.

My wife and I could not be more pleased with the care that John (Father/Father-in-Law) received at this lovely Care Home. Before he died, peacefully, he told us several time how dedicated and kind all the staff were. He said, repeatedly to us and the staff that "I don't want to be here." The staff were
very concerned that he said this until we explained that he didn't want to be 'here' meaning 'alive' as he was so very tired and missed his wife of over 70 years. The staff were as caring to my wife and I and our two grown up children as they were to John. Nothing was too much trouble and they always had time to talk. His nurse in particular was excellent. Indeed all the staff were extremely professional but with a very human and empathetic manner. John had had a good life by his own reckoning and was ready to move on. He was only there for 6 days but they were special days for him and for us.
Even after John had died and we had collected his belongings flowers arrived for my wife
Reply from Aime Bown, General Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you for the time taken to leave us a review, Anthony. It was a delight to care for John and thank you for the appreciation to the team, I will make sure that this is shared with them.

Too long responding to a toilet call for patients such as my wife. Her lack of mobility means that the response is often too long and the result is she often wets or soils herself.
In most other respects the staff are excellent, very caring and friendly.
Reply from Graham Allen, Senior General Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This is not the level of care or response time we would normally expect, and we can only apologise for this. We have addressed this with the team to ensure assistance is provided more promptly going forward.

Your kind words about our caring and friendly staff are very much appreciated, and your lovely handwritten card and boxes of chocolates meant a great deal to everyone here - thank you for your thoughtfulness.

I am a retired doctor with experience of Care Homes.
During 8 days, I visited Manor Care Home to see a friend who was dying. He had a cardiac condition, which made it too difficult for him to be cared for at home, and he was too old for heart surgery to correct his problem.
The first thing which
strikes you when visiting Manor Care Home is the absence of the characteristic smell of Care Homes. This is only achieved by meticulous housekeeping.
The Care Assistants who looked after my friend were always calm, kind and gentle, even when he displayed his highly developed stubbornness. Because of his illness, he was not keen to eat or drink, which did not help his condition, but it is a choice that people with mental capacity can make. This situation was handled splendidly.
I have given Manor Care Home a 5-star rating and would happily recommend it to anyone considering care of a loved one.
Reply from Graham Allen, Senior General Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely words and recommendation. It means a great deal to the whole team to know that our care, kindness, and attention to detail made a difference to your friend during such a sensitive time.

My mother-in-law was admitted to The Manor for palliative care. She was admitted quickly and her admission was smooth and she was treated with dignity. She was only in The Manor for a week, but every care professional treated her with such care and dignity and that extended to our family too. Thank
you for making her last few days as comfortable as possible.
Reply from Marc Chidgey, Activities Coordinator at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you so much four your kind words. We are truly grateful that you took time to share your thoughts with us. Knowing that we were able to help make your mum as comfortable as possible means a great deal to our entire team. My dad moved into The Manor in August 2023. He was there until his death early February 2025. The care he received was excellent, as was the communication I received from the nursing staff regarding my dad.
The respect shown to Dad as he was ill + after his death was wonderful - thank you.
The unit
manager was really helpful + caring. A huge thank you to all staff involved in his care.

After a very serious stroke 2 and a half years ago, my husband was diagnosed as needing 24 hour nursing care. The managers at the Manor Gate Care Home, Bishops Hall were extremely kind and helpful when my daughter and I visited her to ask for a room for him. He lived there until January this year when
he sadly passed away. While there he considered it as his home. His room was spacious, all of the staff there were very kind, friendly and helpful to all the residents and cheerful. They were most considerate to myself and our two daughters. He loved the meals, as did we all, and thought everything tasted homemade. The Manor was always warm and cozy. All the staff were extremely cheerful, friendly and helpful. He was always clean and tidy. We would recommend this home to anyone, and often do.

I have been at Barchester The Manor Care Home for five years now. I was in another care home but I was not making progress with my mobility and my husband had to return to his work in Cyprus. So my family brought me to The Manor because of the physio care and physiotherapist on site Monday to Fridays.
I am still doing physiotherapy every day (I am confined to a wheelchair. I have had two strokes and need a hoist to get in and out of bed to my chair). The carers here are very good to me, only them or me often sharing a conversation.
The provision of daily activities is excellent and especially, for someone like me with and interest in music and arts and crafts. I am blessed by children (grown up, over 40 years) living nearby.

The home is ever so caring for Mum, despite Mum sometimes being a difficult character, the team work with Mum in a kind and understanding way to ensure all her needs are met.
The home is also clean and well-kept and doesn't have that stereotypical care home smell!

we feel that she is safe and well looked after.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.860)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.860) out of 10 for Barchester Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.860 for Barchester Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (218 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 243 Ratings = 4.86
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Manor Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Operational Trainer Joined: 2010

As a Barchester Operational Trainer, I ensure that staff have the level of skill and knowledge required to competently carry out their role so that all residents receive high-quality care, and that there is a high level of impact on the quality of staff behaviour and knowledge over the long term, leading to a continuous improvement in the quality of care for the residents.

As a Trainer, I actively involve my learners, and my continued focus is to ensure all learning and development activities and inductions are run to a consistently high standard across my 6 homes, alongside meeting external requirements. I have just celebrated my 10th year with Barchester Healthcare, and I love my job.

It’s not just about the teaching but the learning that takes place. All our learners on their first day are taught to identify our Barchester values so that they can incorporate them into everything they do. As a trainer, I strive to meet the needs, abilities and aspirations of my learners. I believe it’s about inspiring learners to help them change and develop their personal, social and professional skills to the best of their ability and take responsibility for their own development.
