Situated on beautiful grounds on the edge of Somerset, professionals provide first-class 24-hour nursing and residential care and for those who are living with dementia in a modern purpose-built home. The purpose built 17 bedded unit dementia unit called Willow was opened in 2023 and is a beautiful addition to the care home.

The home has beautiful well tended gardens with an outdoor dining space alongside woodwork areas and a retreat for those who are keen gardeners.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. Their dedication can be seen across the board - in their cooking, hospitality, housekeeping, front of house team and not least of all their professional and experienced nursing care staff. In addition to this they are very proud to have a dedicated team which includes, physiotherapists who work alongside an enthusiastic recreational crew providing a holistic approach to 24-hour person centred care.

The home atmosphere supports a home from home feeling, supporting independence and collaborative working with family and friends. The dedicated team will guide and support in all aspects of care and recreation.

They look forward to welcoming you to The Manor Care Home so that you can experience first hand just how wonderful a place they are and how ideally suited they are to meet your needs now and in the future.

From the first time I entered Barchester The Manor Care Home to look around, I was struck by the warmth and friendliness of the staff - from the cleaners upwards. Even when they were obviously busy, the staff still made the time to chat with the residents, their families and visitors. Nothing is too
much - super attitude. Now that both Mum and Dad have been in full-time residence there for a few months, nothing has changed - if anything, it's even better, as the staff now know their characters and regularly bring out their naughty sides! Mum and Dad have got to know and like most of the ground floor staff - it's a lovely, welcoming community that has been able to deal with my parents differing physical and mental needs. They always feared being separated and this is what stopped them from going into a residential facility months ago! My brother and I can now relax, for the first time in months, knowing that they are safe, happy and well cared for. Thank you to all of the staff.

When I arrived I was unable to walk, after my stay, I was able to travel home. I cannot praise too highly the physiotherapy I received; care and competence of the first order.
The nursing staff were uniformly kind and competent.
The meals provided the best institutional food I have ever eaten outside
an RAF canteen.
I would thoroughly recommend Barchester The Manor Care Home in all respects.

Although my dad only spent a few days in the home before he passed away, the care and support he received was outstanding. This allowed him to spend his last few days in peace and comfort, and it was appropriate that he passed peacefully in his sleep. The team in the home were also brilliant in their
interaction with family and friends who visited. Always friendly, caring and with a smile when appropriate.
Thank you, everyone.

I came into Barchester The Manor Care Home for a weeks respite after helping to care for my husband for 18 months after a stroke. Coming into The Manor meant I was looked after but could still visit my husband every day. The care and experience I had was excellent. I had dinner, bed and breakfast
Reply from Lynn Bowman, Customer Relationship Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeMany thanks for your positive feedback which we will convey to the team, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, "holiday", with us, yet at the same time still having the opportunity to spend time with your husband. My mum moved to Barchester The Manor Care Home in August of this year. From the moment she arrived, she received outstanding care and was treated with kindness and respect by all the staff who could not do enough for her. They did everything to make her last weeks happy and contented, just as if she
had still been in her own home. The Manor is special and I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone considering care for their loved one.

My aunt moved into The Manor in March of this year. Sadly, she was only there for about three months before she died, but in this time received outstanding care in every way. All staff were kind and considerate, ensuring that she settled into her new home well. In addition to excellent nursing care
all the staff carried out their roles to a high standard. They gave her time, which is so very important. Staff tailored some activities to my aunt's interests, something she appreicated. The management team developed a good relationship with myself and family members, kept us informed, listed and gave sound advice.

My husband spent two and a half years here and was very well looked after by the very caring carers and nursing staff. Occasionally the night nurses (usually agency) were not so caring.
Reply from Helen Smith, General Manager at Barchester Manor Care HomeThank you for your feedback - We aim to have our home fully staffed by our own team and I was sorry to hear that on the few occasions we had agency night nurses that they were not as caring as expected. I will look into this as I want to ensure that we always deliver the highest quality of care to all our residents day and night.

All the staff without exception are happy, caring and cheerful. More like staying in a 5-star hotel. I could really get to love this life. The food is wonderful, and the chef and staff working under extreme difficulties still manage to turn out 1st class meals, I can't praise everyone enough. The laundry,
cleaners and carers, nothing is too much trouble. I wish I could stay, thank you so much to everyone.

My father-in-law had to go into The Manor for nursing and end-of-life care. He was 96, his wife (my mother-in-law) had to go into the home with him, physically good but a lot of memory loss, she is also 96 years old.
The Manor provide extreme nursing care for my father-in-law and the end-of-life care
was brilliant. They continue to give loving, kind care to my mother-in-law and are helping her to cope with the loss of her husband of 73 years.
I cannot speak highly enough of the manager and all her staff, from the cleaners, chef, handyman, care staff and the incredible nursing staff. So lucky to have found The Manor

Dad has been in for a two-week respite break while we went on holiday. He has had a great time and every time we have phoned he has told us how well he is being looked after. He has enjoyed it so much and been made to feel so welcome that he has already said he would like to come back! He has said all
the staff are so kind. Thank you all.

and even a glass of wine.

My mother came into The Manor unable to walk. One staff member has helped her gain strength and confidence. He expertly judges when to encourage her with a new challenge and when to slow her down a bit. Last week Mum walked all the way to that lounge with her wheeler; this would not have happened without
his skill, patience, positivity and perseverance.

Mum has been at The Manor since July last year; the staff made her feel safe, secure and welcome right from the very beginning. It's such a relief to know she's so well looked after. All the staff work so hard and are so kind. The food is amazing; I visit several times per week and every visit she's
eager to tell me all about the food and how wonderful it is. I'd just like to thank all the staff from maintenance, reception, housekeeping, carers, activities staff, physios, nurses and, of course, the kitchen team for making The Manor such a special place.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.860)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.860) out of 10 for Barchester Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.860 for Barchester Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (218 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 243 Ratings = 4.86
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Manor Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

As a Barchester Operational Trainer, I ensure that staff have the level of skill and knowledge required to competently carry out their role so that all residents receive high-quality care, and that there is a high level of impact on the quality of staff behaviour and knowledge over the long term, leading to a continuous improvement in the quality of care for the residents.

As a Trainer, I actively involve my learners, and my continued focus is to ensure all learning and development activities and inductions are run to a consistently high standard across my 6 homes, alongside meeting external requirements. I have just celebrated my 10th year with Barchester Healthcare, and I love my job.

It’s not just about the teaching but the learning that takes place. All our learners on their first day are taught to identify our Barchester values so that they can incorporate them into everything they do. As a trainer, I strive to meet the needs, abilities and aspirations of my learners. I believe it’s about inspiring learners to help them change and develop their personal, social and professional skills to the best of their ability and take responsibility for their own development.
