My Mum initially went to West Abbey for respite care which soon became permanent. Each phase was managed so well, and with ease. Sadly Mum was only at the home for 9 weeks, but during that time her care was exceptional. She was encouraged but never forced to do anything. The staff are so special. Everyone cares, from office, cleaners, gardeners to the nurses and carers and everyone in between. A continuous dialogue with the nurses kept us well informed. We were updated on visits and care procedures from external professionals. Mum's dignity was always observed, right up to her passing. West Abbey has something special, which should never be underestimated. Thank you so much.

From the very first day, and throughout his stay, the communication from the nurses and management was open, clear, and deeply reassuring. Even though his time with you was relatively short, every single member of the care team wrapped him in warmth, dignity, and true kindness.
You brought immense comfort not only to him, but to our entire grieving family during a very difficult chapter. We will never forget your unwavering compassion, professionalism, and the comforting environment you create.
We would highly recommend West Abbey to anyone looking for exceptional support, and we truly cannot thank you enough for everything you did for our dad.

Dear Shelley,Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. On behalf of everyone at West Abbey, I would like to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
It was a privilege to care for your dad during his time with us. Although his stay was relatively short, it was important to us that he felt comfortable, respected, and cared for every day. We are deeply touched to know that our care and support brought some comfort to both him and yourself and family during such a difficult time.
You were such a lovely and supportive family, and it was our honour not only to care for your dad, but also to be there for you when you needed us. Your appreciation means so much to all of our team.
Please accept our continued thoughts and condolences. Thank you again for your recommendation and for your trust in us.
Best regards,

My mum has lived in west Abbey for six weeks. It took a while for her to settle but mum is loving life there and said today, "I am so happy." The staff are so caring and mum has learnt to speak up if she needs anything. We are gradually making her room feel like home and mum has been welcomed and made friends who are genuinely pleased to see her. Having the interaction with others is a great way to stay connected in a community and the staff make WA a very happy home. Mums room is in the process of being refurbished and when her new carpet and new furniture arrive the room will be just lovely.

What has stood out most is the way the team took the time to get to know Mum as a person - her routines, her worries, and the things that bring her comfort. Their thoughtful approach has helped her adjust far more smoothly than we expected. Communication has been excellent, with staff keeping us informed and involving us in decisions without ever making us feel rushed or pressured.
The home itself feels calm, welcoming, well-organised, creating an environment where Mum can feel safe and supported. Knowing she is treated with dignity.

I had to do an emergency admission for my mother has advanced dementia, due to my father becoming suddenly ill. The lead administrator took charge of the situation with great professionalism and kindness, which helped defuse what wa an extremely stressful and emotional situation. The lead administrator along with the care home manager were able to take my mother in as a permanent resident within 48 hours, where she has remained ever since. For this I cannot thank them enough.

My Mother lived at West Abbey Care Centre for her last 33 months of life. Throughout this time the staff, entertainments, food, physical & mental care, facilitation & access to NHS care; have been consistently excellent. No request was too much effort, and staff have always gone out of their way to give an outstanding service. The Centre is well run, and efficient. Crucially, staff morale is high: evidenced by their cheery and helpful approach at all times; and always being prepared to "go the extra mile" for the benefit of the resident or relative. The "end of life" care was sympathetic, appropriate, and totally attentive both as she died and afterwards, for my mother and to myself. Overall, I strongly recommend West Abbey for its excellent service and professionalism.

My husband has been a resident at West Abbey for twelve months now. He settled in better than we could ever have hoped, and that is largely due to the wonderful care he is receiving. I know that if there were any problems the home would contact me straight away, although this hasn't been necessary as my husband is so happy and content. I cannot fault the care at West Abbey and the friendly, compassionate atmosphere; you are always greeted with a big smile from all the staff. The care home is immaculately clean and all the residents look well cared for. There is also a wide range of activities laid on for the residents, and the food looks delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home, and we are grateful for the dedication and hard work of all the staff.

I was given a guided tour of the facilities that are, to say the least, impressive. The whole place is clean with well-maintained, pleasant decor, nothing tired-looking. Individual rooms are of a reasonable size with en-suite WC, comfortable beds, furnishings and TV.
The communal areas and dining rooms are spacious and well laid out with comfortable furnishings. Residents are encouraged to use these areas and the facilities they provide. The menus for the dining rooms offer superb choices.
The garden areas are well-kept, very colourful and attractive.
All the staff that I met were, without exception, affable, polite and knowledgeable about their roles and were able to answer my questions about care and accommodation. More importantly, from the reaction of the existing residents, staff were obviously well-liked, kind and caring and residents seemed happy.
Thank you so much for your kind review, we will be sure to share the feedback with all departments within the home. It has been a pleasure supporting your next of kin and family. We look forward to seeing you at your next visit. Thank you.

Hello, my name is David, and I am the General Manager at West Abbey.
I have over 12 years’ experience in the care sector in England, working across both nursing and residential settings, with a strong focus on dementia care, including complex dementia and high-acuity nursing needs. Throughout my career, I have developed a clear focus on quality, team development, and creating positive and person-centred environments. I have been proud to contribute to achieving Outstanding as Head of Care, and more recently to achieving Gold Standards Framework accreditation, recognising high-quality end-of-life care.
I am passionate about building strong, supportive teams and working closely with residents, families, and professionals. One of my key focuses is creating a real sense of community within the home, where people feel valued, respected, and truly at home. I am particularly driven by achieving positive outcomes for residents and their families, while supporting staff to grow and develop into confident leaders.
For me, it’s about the small details, ensuring high standards of care, creating meaningful daily experiences, and delivering consistency across the home.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the UK and its beautiful villages, spending time with my children, and watching professional cycling.

I have worked in healthcare for 20 years and have been a registered nurse for 14 of them. I am passionate about Private Sector Care and have always loved the work I do. I am lucky that I look forward to coming to work every day.
I am originally from Somerset, and my nursing career has allowed me to live in different parts of the country before recently returning home. I am very excited to be part of the West Abbey Team and work with some amazing people.

I have been part of the West Abbey team for many years, and throughout my time here I have had the privilege of working as a night nurse, caring for our residents and getting to know them and their individual needs. Working nights has given me a great deal of experience and taught me the importance of providing calm, compassionate and reassuring care, particularly when residents may need that extra sense of comfort and security. I am now very excited to have taken on the role of Head of Unit for Lyde, our Memory Lane unit specialising in dementia care. It is a new chapter for me, and one I am really looking forward to.

I’m Gale, and I’m incredibly proud to be the Head of Unit for our residential nursing community on the ground floor at West Abbey. I joined West Abbey at the beginning of 2025, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment since. Nursing has always been more than a career to me, it is a privilege to care for people, build meaningful relationships and make a positive difference in their everyday lives. I have a particular love for nursing older people. Every resident has their own story, experiences and personality, and I feel so fortunate to be able to support them through this chapter of their lives.

Hello, my name is Malyn. I have been a nurse since 2010 and have had the opportunity to work in a variety of nursing settings throughout my career. While every role has taught me something valuable, caring for older adults has been the most rewarding. I find it a privilege to support our residents, build genuine relationships with them and their families, and help them maintain their dignity, independence and quality of life. Being able to make a positive difference, even in the smallest ways, is what I love most about my role. Outside of work, I enjoy playing online games, crocheting, going for walks and painting. I also love spending quality time with my family, which helps me relax and recharge.
