The Orchards Care Home, a purpose-built setting situated in the popular residential area of Shard End, east of Birmingham, provides personalised nursing and nursing dementia care to older people.

With welcoming sitting rooms, spacious dining areas and en suite bedrooms, the home has been designed and furnished to offer residents a true home from home. The on site salon and cinema provide the opportunity to relax and enjoy a favourite film, whilst for green-fingered residents, the courtyard garden is the perfect space to flex those gardening skills and reap the rewards of their hard work.

With a focus on personalised care and support, the team at The Orchards design life around residents, getting to know each person so that they can offer a lifestyle that's as engaging as it is relaxing. It appears this carehome is overstretched. Not enough staff to handle residents. Not enough equipment to handle residents. Equipment which should be kept in a safe place lying anywhere. Residents being left alone in places where carers should be looking after them, not visitors who are not related.
Equipment just lying around in rooms for weeks awaiting repair. I could go on.

Mom has been in this home only since May 24, and in this short time Mom has settled in very well. All the staff take very good care of Mom and any concerns are dealt with by the nurses straightaway. The activities staff are constantly keeping the residents happy and nothing is too much trouble. The
management team is always approachable.

Sadly mom passed away at The Orchards after 6 weeks with vascular dementia..But couldn't of asked for better care for our mom after having Dementia for 5yrs which as a family we cared for her, but after a fall which led to nursing care we reluctantly had to put her in a home...But they looked after
our mom as good as we did we felt totally confident mom was in good care. The carers, nurses treat their patients with such care and consideration. Even entertainment coordination, manager, maintenance man also staff in office was always happy to help nothing was too much trouble for anyone. This is certainly a care home that is very well run and respects their patients they care for to a very high standard...The team all work together, well done to you all.

I feel that my mother is being very well looked after. The staff in particular have made Mom feel safe, secure and comfortable. From my observation I can see that it's not just my mom that is made to feel special, but all the residents. I am thrilled that Mum is here at The Orchards. It makes me feel

I feel that my Mothers's care is very high. Obviously, my Mother would prefer to be at her own home but due to her health, she cannot live there, so to make a statement that my Mum's care is the best it can be at 'The Orchards' is a true statement! Nothing is too much trouble when I have asked for it.
I know my Mother is in good hands there.

Since my nan has been at home, we have had an experience. All of the staff are extremely polite and friendly. They take very good care of my nan and ensure she is always happy. My mother is a resident at Orchards Care Home. The carers here are very best, they work incredibly hard and are kind, considerate and caring, taking into get to know them with the best and attention to meet their needs.
The activities girls work tirelessly and with such enthusiasm and energy to make
the residents happy with events, open days, musical entertainment, quizzes, bingp - the list is endless. Their commitment and professionalism is to be admired. They make The Orchards a happy place for everyone to live in.

I am very happy with Mom's overall care. I have to say all care is good, but there are different levels depending on which carers are on.

My wife has been in The Orchards for nearly a year. She has been treated with dignity and kindness. The staff work hard to maintain a good standard of care, compassion and cleanliness. The meals are excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone who finds themselves in the position

The home is always clean and tidy, staff are always engaging and pleasant. My wife is very comfortable and has been here for nearly 18 months. If I have any concerns the staff always listen and go out of their way to make sure my concerns are dealt with.

It was awkward for my partner as she had already been in two other care homes and it took a while to settle in but I now think that has been accomplished. Overall the home suits her needs. I believe she is liked by the staff and she certainly likes them. Although she is unable to communicate I believe
the staff understand her needs. She does like activities but is usually unable to take part owing to her condition.

Always a pleasure to visit my mum, very caring and friendly staff and the management team are very approachable and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have lots of different events for the residents and families to enjoy and socialise. They are respectful at all times, nothing is too

The Orchards Care Home is such a nice place to be in - with caring staff. They notice when you are feeling down and spend time to cheer you up. The whole team are so courteous and professional with all residents with all residents. The activities are a time for us all to socialise, have a good laugh,
and swap stories about our childhood and growing up. Sadly I have to leave here soon which doesn't make me feel good.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Simon has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents


Having joined The Orchards as Home Manager, Simon closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for and every Resident. He extends this caring approach to his Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


He also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby nurseries, schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at The Orchards.


When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Simon remarked:


“It means the world to me to see a smile on a Resident’s face, making them happy and helping to enhance their lives is the best feeling.”


Outside of work, Simon enjoys spending quality time with his friends and family, especially as he has seven siblings and 18 nieces and nephews. He also enjoys travelling abroad regularly and seeing new places.
