My mother has resided in Ardenlea Grove Care Home for nearly two years. Mother has always been very happy and has been looked after exceptionally well. The staff and medical staff are always carrying out their job 100% and I'm happy with their care. I would like to mention especially one of the nurses
who really cares for the residents and one of the carers who is also a caring and sympathetic person I would wish to look after my mother.

I have been visiting my neighbour for nearly three years in the care home. The care home is spotlessly clean, lovely en-suite room. When my neighbour first came to the care home she was very poorly but after a while, she has improved. The staff are friendly and professional, it does not feel like a
care home at times.

The home is in need of a refurbishment, the furniture is fine and the rooms need to be made a little bit more homely. The staff are lovely, very caring and patient but feel there should be more to deal with the amount of residents. I also believe that the doctor should inform any visiting relatives
of what health info they may need. There also need more car parking.
Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at Ardenlea Grove Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It is always nice to hear words like "lovely, very caring and patient" being used to describe our care. As a family, we are very pleased with Ardenlea Grove. The staff without exception have been excellent. They have always answered any queries or issues efficiently and listened to our concerns.
The staff are always polite and cheerful and Mom receives excellent care here. She is treated with compassion,
kindness, and respect, from the nursing staff down to the cleaners!
Mom does have some issues with the food which she says is often only lukewarm. Also, the meal times are too condensed together with too long a gap from tea to breakfast the next morning.

Dad was only at Ardenlea Grove for 3 weeks before he passed away but throughout that time he received excellent care from all the staff. He was on end-of-life care and the staff made sure he had everything he needed. They were very supportive to us as a family, answering all our questions and supporting
us through a difficult time.

The care Mom receives from the carers is excellent. They know exactly what Mom wants i.e. how she likes her pillows and not to cover her feet.
The carers are genuinely happy and do care about the well-being and happiness of the residents.
The only thing I could say anything negative about is sometimes
the food is cold, although it is usually nice tasting and cooked well.
Also Mom has mentioned when she is washed she is stripped naked. I think 1 half of the body should be covered when the other is being washed.

I visit a friend who became a resident last year after her husband died. I see her every 3/4 weeks and over the months have noticed that slowly she has settled in and seems happy now joining in many of the activities and making friends.
As I am an active 87-year-old but have no family I may need to
become a resident myself at somewhere like this so I find it interesting to see how things are run and I must say I am impressed.

what my mother needed.

Our family has very much appreciated the help Ardenlea Grove Care Home has given us in caring for our seriously ill mother. We have found a high standard of nursing care which we had difficulty accessing in the community, to be readily available ar Ardenlea Grove, thereby ensuring Mum's comfort and
dignity. All staff have been welcoming and continue to help in many different ways, whether with administrative matters, providing quick changes of the menu, helping Mum get more comfortable and even providing an in-room tea tray for the family to use, Mum is a great tea drinker! Staff get to know residents and their needs and it is pleasing that residents are cared for, largely by the same team, and that residents and their families get to know the staff in return. Ardenlea Grove is decorated and furnished to a high standard. Rooms look like those in a comfortable, family home. It is always warm and both the buildings and residents are immaculate. Any problems with the building or equipment are addressed quickly and efficiently by the on-site handyman, a welcome 'extra' we were not expecting.

Our father was discharged from hospital to Ardenlea Grove Care Home for end-of-life care. We have visited every day and found the staff to be friendly, kind, caring and compassionate. They are a wonderful team supporting the residents and each other, They have managed any problems my father has encountered
with empathy finding solutions to suit his needs, they haven't adopted a one size fits all approach at all. The care home is always clean and tidy from the reception area through to the communal areas and the bedrooms. We are so pleased with the care our father has received whilst at Ardenlea Grove Care Home and are grateful for the support they are providing at such a difficult time.

My mum has been living at this care home for the past 6 months, and I have been so impressed with the care and attention she has received. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help. My mum has been very well looked after and is always happy when I visit. She has been able to enjoy
a number of activities, as well as making new friends and forming relationships with the staff. The care home has made sure that my mother is comfortable and happy throughout her stay and I would highly recommend this care home to anyone looking for a caring and supportive environment. The manager is always available to answer any questions and are very responsive to any concerns or feedback. My mother was very poorly when she first arrived, but now she is looking forward to independent living. Carers and nursing staff were excellent - they deserve a lot more respect from management. They all treated Mum in an excellent way and very professional with all relatives. Overall the home does not provide what it says it does eg pet therapy. It was only with perseverance that I got clean/new flooring
in Mum's room. Walls needed a repaint and overall the whole home needs improvement. Generally did not feel the manager listened.

The NHS discharged my mother without my consent for rehabilitation. My mother has dementia and is bed-bound needing full nursing care. She was left lying in her own excrement, half-dressed, and her food and drinks were left on the side when she requires full assisted eating. The situation was so bad
that my brother physically moved our mother and took her home in his car when really she needed an ambulance. The place was also dirty. At the end of the day, you have to blame the management and nurses for allowing such poor care.
Please, please check this place before anyone in your family is moved by the NHS into this place.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.524)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.524) out of 10 for Ardenlea Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.524 for Ardenlea Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (214 Excellents x 5) + (137 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 370 Ratings = 4.524
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ardenlea Grove Care Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I enjoy working in a care home environment due to its homely atmosphere, where residents and staff come together as an extended family.

I joined Ardenlea Grove in February 2024 as Clinical Deputy Manager and have since progressed into the role of Home Manager. I am passionate about providing high-quality, person-centred care and supporting both residents and staff to feel safe, valued and supported every day.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and like learning new things - I love to be creative!
