We have greatly appreciated the attention and care offered through the whole process of moving my Mother into Sunrise, from viewing rooms and facilities to sorting personal furniture and arranging a care assessment at a long distance. A potentially difficult move has been very smooth and the continuing care of the staff has led to my Mother settling in very quickly. She is always commenting on how caring everyone is and how good the food is.

Overall Experience
At the time of writing, our Mother has now been a resident at Sunrise for one year. After initially settling in well she did go through a difficult phase after 2 or 3 months wondering and asking when she would be returning to her own home. She has however now settled into a routine and appreciates that the move, with all the upheaval that it brings, is very much for her benefit. She has struck up a friendship with other residents and enjoys regular trips out on the minibus and now appears settled and enjoying her time at Sunrise.

Without a doubt, this is, in part, due to the staff who are found to be pleasant and helpful and have of course been key to this process, despite difficult periods where a few temporary staff were having to be recruited. It is appreciated that staffing is one of the key areas within this sector and thankfully as well as hopefully moving forward there is now a settled and focused team in place, overall delivering a very high standard of care and compassion.

Reply from Heather James, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange

Sunrise of Solihull appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased to hear your mother has settled in well.

Overall Experience

We chose Sunrise on the recommendation of a friend who had moved there a few months earlier, and because it offered the opportunity for our parents to continue to live together in a double suite. The offer of a 30-day respite stay gave plenty of time to reassure everyone that it was the right move, and the opportunity to bring furniture from home allowed us to personalise their living space and make it homely and familiar. All the staff are very friendly and professional, the admission process ran smoothly and ongoing support as we continue to understand how processes work on a day-to-day basis has been good. Despite our parents having quite different care requirements, the home provides for their needs as individuals, while allowing them to continue to live together as a couple for the foreseeable future.

The staff are kind and caring and very helpful. There appears to be a good selection of food on offer and a variety of activities that residents can take part in, including trips out in the minibus. Truly this is more like a hotel than a care home.

My dear Mum broke her hip last year and intended to stay in the Sunrise for a few weeks.
She was made to feel like part of the family and enjoyed it so much she decided to make it her new home.
Nothing is too much trouble to all the wonderful carers and staff! I am so relieved my mum is in such a happy caring place!
I would absolutely recommend this beautiful home!

Thanks so much for all the continued support!

Mom has been in Sunrise for almost a year, all the staff have been very kind and helpful in helping Mom settle as she gets very anxious. All the staff make everyone feel welcome. The activities person's not only entertain residents, they also include family, friends etc. Residents all seem happy and well looked after. Mom always looks clean. Both myself and my brother are happy with Mom's care and feel that she has people around 24hrs that will look after her.

Visitors are welcomed and made to feel part of the Sunrise family. There is a general feeling of warmth and cheerfulness generated by staff.
As a family living at a distance, we feel Mum's needs are met and appreciate the ongoing kindness since her husband died. Her independence is respected. Even as someone registered blind, there is plenty for her to do.

We do have a perception care hours are stretched. We don't live in a perfect world, so there will always be minor events which don't go to plan, especially around staff recruitment, but overall Sunrise of Solihull does pretty well.

We were immediately struck by the happy but calm atmosphere in all the units. The care staff work extremely hard and are very alert to resident's needs.
They understand the difficulties faced by people with dementia (and their families) and are kind and supportive. The rooms are airy, spacious and clean.

Every effort is made to accommodate individual needs. Managers and staff go the extra mile to be helpful even when under pressure.

My mum has been in Sunrise since December, she has flourished as a person. The staff are excellent, very kind, very caring, I cannot fault her care while she has been in Sunrise. I believe they are going to be refurbished next year, which will only benefit the residents more. I am very happy with the love and care she has received and would highly recommend Sunrise to friends and family.

My experience is very positive. The carers and staff at Sunrise Solihull have been taking care of my mother for 3 years. She is now 89 and has memory loss, but is happy in her home at Sunrise. The rooms are clean, the meals are very high quality and the atmosphere is very warm and generous. I live abroad, but Sunrise has been good about keeping in touch over email when questions crop up. Mum is very well taken care of and safe. Thank you!

Meet the Team (1)

Melissa Hunter
Melissa HunterJob Title:Home Manager

At Blossomfield Grange, we believe it is the people who make our home a truly happy and caring community. Backed by Care UK’s 40 years of experience in delivering award-winning care, our team of dedicated professionals undergoes an intensive training programme designed to keep residents' needs at the heart of everything we do.

As the Home Manager, I am proud to lead this team with a genuine passion for high-quality, person-centred care. For me, ‘good enough’ is never the standard we should aim for. I believe my role is to support our residents in remaining as independent and active as possible, ensuring their emotional and social well-being is nurtured alongside their clinical needs.

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care and have extensive experience in safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control. A defining highlight of my career was leading a previous home through its first CQC inspection, where we achieved a ‘Good’ rating across all five key areas—a standard of excellence I am committed to maintaining here.

I believe that effective management requires a blend of being extremely organised and possessing a deep intuitive understanding of people’s needs. By leading with empathy and compassion, I strive to instil a culture where dignity and respect are the default behaviours for both my colleagues and our residents. I am always approachable and stay closely connected to the daily life of the home through my regular walk-arounds. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the positive difference we make, especially when a resident achieves something they once thought was out of reach.

When I am not at home, I focus on recharging by spending quality time with my family. Whether I am out on a long walk, enjoying a shopping trip, or heading away for a weekend break, these moments allow me to return to Blossomfield Grange with the energy and focus needed to provide the best possible environment for our residents.
