In our experience of visiting our friend in Rushall:
The staff are always so helpful and reassuring. The activities are amazing, there is always something going on for all the residents. They are always having a laugh and participating in things from exercises to bingo to sitting and enjoying singers
there is something for everybody. Our friend is happy and settled which is the main thing, and in the bargain the food is excellent. A lovely homely atmosphere exists in this care home.

Mom was a resident at Rushall for 5 years. They were 5 years filled with love, respect, laughter, and care. Having vascular dementia meant that part of her life was taken from her. Every member of the team treated her with dignity, patience, and understanding.
Her care was amazing. We were always
informed about moms' physical and mental health and wellbeing. Because the team spent time getting to know Mom, they were able to spot any changes and react accordingly. This meant that my sister and I were able to relax and enjoy time with Mom without any concerns.
From day one, Mom, ourselves, and our families were welcomed into the Rushall family.
Mom sadly passed away in October. The team were once again amazing. They not only cared for Mom during her final days but also cared for us. It was evident how much they loved and respected her.
Rushall is an amazing home run by incredibly caring, knowledgeable & loving people. Thank you, team Rushall for helping create such fabulous memories.

Our mom lived at Rushall Care Home for the last two and a half years. Sadly she passed away in August aged 93 years. Right from day one we felt the love and care of this home. The staff are absolutely amazing in every aspect and my mom loved them all. Nothing is too much trouble and they not only look
after the resident but their families as well. In Mom's last days, we were obviously heartbroken but the care and compassion shown to us was just outstanding. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Care Home 100% to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones. This is the gold standard of care which all Care Homes should be striving to achieve. The care home was simply excellent. The facilities were good, the food excellent and the rooms comfortable.
However, what marks this home out as exceptional is the staff. They could not have done more for the care of my Dad in his final few months. They made him feel safe, they made him laugh and they
made his final days comfortable and dignified.
I would have no hesitation recommending this facility to anyone who needs to be looked after by wonderful people.

Mom spent the last 2 and a half years of her life in this brilliant home until she passed away on 7 July. I was consulted about her care throughout and she was always treated with dignity and respect. Everything was done in Mom's best interests so I was confident in the care she received. Visitors were
always welcomed and made to feel at home. I will never be able to thank all the hardworking staff enough for the love and care she was given. They were just like her family for the time she spent here. I would highly recommend Rushall to anyone looking for a place for a loved one.

My sister was admitted as a palliative care patient. We were quite concerned about how she would deal with this but are grateful to say that, from the initial phone call with the manager, and throughout her care, every person that we have spoken to or met has been reassuring, informative, understanding
and, above all, caring. Everyone has made the utmost effort to ensure that my sister was, comfortable, settled and at peace and has made us, as a family, feel very welcome and involved. I am extremely grateful for the outstanding care that she experienced in her final weeks and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rushall Care Home.

After seeing the care my uncle received here in 2021/2022 my auntie chose to come to this care home herself. Since arriving in January she has been cared for daily by the most polite and loving staff members and really enjoyed the Farm on Wheels day which really perked her up. I really can't thank the
team enough for everything that you're doing for her and for even taking the time to make my children feel welcome and special every time we visit. A special shout out to one member of staff in particular who goes above and beyond for everyone who walks through the door and always has a colouring book and pens up her sleeve for when the kids come. Absolutely beautiful people. Thank you!

Thoroughly pleasant experience. Staff helpful and polite, having provided a room and birthday refreshments for a dozen people. Everywhere and everything clean and hygienic. A pleasant atmosphere and ethos throughout made for an occasion to be remembered.

My aunt spent the last 7 months in Rushall Care Home, and everyone there made this time a happy one for her, she immediately settled and made friends, and we found all the staff friendly and extremely helpful, from the first day until she recently passed away they couldn’t have done more to make her
time there enjoyable, and we’ll always be grateful for the dignified and respectful ending of her life.
We would recommend the home to anyone considering a facility for a family member.

My mom went into the home on 1st December 2023. She died on 3rd February 2024. My mom was so happy and comfortable. We can't thank all the staff enough for the care they gave my mom. Everyone is one big family. Nothing was too much. They are all amazing.

This home has been amazing to my mom and us as a family, the support I received is second to none! The best thing is it's genuine. I can't thank them enough. My mom sadly passed away 26/12/23, right to the very end, the staff looked after my mom and us like family. The manager always had a hug for us,
the assistant manager was the same, the lady in the office was so lovely and the nurses especially, were incredible, with me, to the bitter end the night mom passed. The night nurse was an amazing man. The carers are just amazing, wish I could name them, you are the best and such a huge part of my life like my family, forever! The kitchen staff are brilliant, helpful lovely supportive, cleaning staff lovely again very supportive and all hard working. Last but not least entertainment coordinator, you do such a great job so many fun times summer spring, autumn winter always something happening putting residents first with the help of the staff, I miss you all that's why I still pop in. Thank you all.

I was there for 11 months. I gave it 2 as I can't fault the kitchen, domestic and some carers. The management was appalling though. As a paying resident, you are meant to feel as if staff work in your home. Not at all it is more like you live in their place of work. The manager once grabbed my wheelchair
and said get to your room. Also, he slammed the office door on me shouting I'm the general manager I do as I want. No, go away. A resident's daughter witnessed all this. Anyway, I was taken to hospital once as I am high risk having 3 operations on a brain tumour and 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I was discharged and not allowed to enter and today my room has been sold. I had to get family to collect all my belongings (TV, clothes, even my own wifi router on pay monthly sim). Also, I've still not had my resident fund money returned 6 months later. If you are thinking of leaving a family member with no capacity there please avoid!

Please allow me to fact review the points you have raised.


I was there for 11 months - This is correct.


I gave it 2 as I can't fault the kitchen, domestic and some carers – Thank you for advising that my kitchen and housekeeping staff were good. My very dedicated clinical staff worked endlessly hard to support you and your care needs and your visiting family also.


The management was appalling though – I am very aware that you have raised numerous allegations through our internal complaints system, social workers, safeguarding and CQC departments, sometimes in name and sometime you have attempted to remain anonymous. All responses from us here at Rushall Care Home have been submitted without any further concerns.


As a paying resident, you are meant to feel as if staff work in your home. Not at all it is more like you live in their place of work – Your care costs were funded through social services, here at Rushall we support a lot of residents who require social funding. Despite only being a 36-40 bedded nursing environment, we support a lot of residents with complex care needs, we do our very best to ensure that our care home remains a relaxed, friendly and a caring space for all those who live here and visit us.


The manager once grabbed my wheelchair and said get to your room. Also, he slammed the office door on me shouting I'm the general manager I do as I want. No, go away. A resident's daughter witnessed all this – this “allegation” has already been reviewed through social workers, safeguarding and CQC departments. Your version of these events is very different to the facts of the event. Based on the fact that your own care needs impacted entirely on other frail residents and their family when they tried to visit. 30 days’ notice was required to be served, to protect my other vulnerable residents of risk from you and to my hard-working team of staff from verbal, physical and virtual threats made by yourself.


Anyway, I was taken to hospital once as I am high risk having 3 operations on a brain tumour and 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I was discharged and not allowed to enter and today my room has been sold – this is partially correct, clinically you were required to go to hospital for a review. Your social worker had arranged for you to go to your new placement the next day. However, as you self-discharged from hospital without medical authorisation this further impacted on your discharge from Rushall Care Home. It was deemed that allowing you in to the building to collect personal items was too much of a risk to my other vulnerable and frail residents. Your room was not sold and your family collected your items for you that afternoon.


I had to get family to collect all my belongings (tv, clothes, even my own wifi router on pay monthly sim) – this is correct.


Also, I've still not had my resident fund money returned 6 months later – At this present time there is still £7 in your resident fund ledger, despite numerous attempts to contact your family to arrange making this refund, our prompts have been ignored.


If you are thinking of leaving a family member with no capacity there please avoid! – Thank you for leaving your opinion and views about supporting residents living without capacity, however, we are currently supporting numerous residents deemed to not have capacity, these residents and their families have not raised any concerns with regards to our care delivery.


We really do hope that you are now receiving the care you require in a more suitable care environment which can support your increasing care needs, all the very best.

The care my 98-year-old mom received at Rushall Care Home was simply the very best she could have had and we could have hoped for. The staff were amazing carers and nothing was too much trouble. She couldn’t have spent the last 2 weeks of her life in a better place. We would 100% recommend this care

I’m a friend of a resident at Rushall Care Home and although, at first, I felt upset when I heard about her going into a care home when she became unwell, I can say with my hand on my heart that she has received and continues to receive the highest standard of care over the eight years of being there.
The staff are friendly, understanding, patient and pleasant. The nurses make her feel listened to and comforted just as much as the carers do, which reassures my friend. Before she became unwell, she was always up for a laugh, the first on the dance floor and loved a Bacardi or Baileys. So to see her smiling when I see her makes me happy to know that she’s being cared for as she should and she’s also still able to enjoy the odd glass of Bacardi or Baileys too. The activities aren’t just kept to the lounge areas either, the home offers a lot of animal therapy, which is amazing! If I had to point someone in the right direction for a care home I would 100% point them to Rushall Care Home.

My father was extremely poorly, and following several weeks in hospital and due to his care needs, he was transferred to Rushall Care Home in December 23. As a family, we expected him to die in the care home, but my dad had expressed a wish to die in his own home, and my mom wanted the same for him.
It
was my first experience in a care home, so I didn’t know what to expect, and I was a little apprehensive. I needn’t have worried though. The care was absolutely fantastic. From the start, my dad was treated with the respect and dignity he deserved. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, not just to my dad but to us as family members - this included the careers, nurses, manager, kitchen staff and the lady who does the laundry. They all went above and beyond, and nothing was too much trouble. The care was fantastic, and after a week, they’d stabilized my dad well enough for him to go home so he could spend his final days at home as per his wishes. Dad passed away peacefully on 19th December.

My mom has been in Rushall Care Home for over 18 months. The staff look after her really well and are very pleasant. My dad goes to visit every day, and they are equally good to my dad. We are happy with her care and know when we leave her, she will be looked after. Anytime she is not feeling well,
nurses always know what to do.

Rushall Care home staff, team Rushall, really do care. They can't do enough for my sister and her family. We are all welcomed with big smiles and hugs every time we visit. They listen to what we have to say and act on any requests we have, if possible. I couldn't ask for a better place for my sister

It is an emotional, scary and very hard decision to make to have your loved ones cared for away from their home. It certainly was for us.
The kindness and compassion shown to us were second to none and have continued throughout Mum’s stay.
The care Mum receives is wonderful. The staff all call her
by her name, show her love and care and have the utmost patience with her.
The manager and staff are all approachable - we never feel like we are being a nuisance even though they are busy. They are always friendly and helpful.

We as a family couldn't wish for a better home to care for our mom, on her end of life journey, which ended on the 1st of December 23. The staff were brilliant and always did their best to see to mom's and our needs. Even though Mom only spent a month there it totally rebooted her and was sitting up
eating on her own and able to walk with Aid, which she could not do before going. Within days she was playing games in their communal room with the rest of the residents and staff. I am Phil Toomer-Smith the General Manager here at Rushall Care Home. I began my nursing career in 2006 at the University of Wolverhampton, and have since gained experience in Medical, Surgical, Trauma and Intensive care. I have a passion for delivering good palliative and dementia care services. Previous to nursing I worked in the tourism sector with airlines and hotels so I take customer service very seriously.


I have worked in the community with nursing homes for the last 10 years, starting as a nurse, through to deputy manager and general manager. I moved back to the Midlands in 2020 from the Channel Islands after working there for 7 years.


I enjoy developing my team and eagerly push training and education to ensure that the care delivered is up to date with current standards. I have continued with my education and since qualifying I have completed a BSc in nursing, a Diploma in nursing home management and a postgraduate Diploma in healthcare law and ethics.


I strive to lead a team of staff who enjoy their work and want to develop, as this will only benefit the care our residents receive.

Abi is our Deputy General Manager. Abi has been with us since September 2022 and qualified as an RNLD from Birmingham City University in 2019. This was due to supporting a friend through access to a nursing course and choosing to stay in nursing herself. Previous to nursing Abi has held various forms of employment including being a public house licensee and an NVQ sign-off. Abi gained her foundational clinical skills primarily in forensic psychiatric fields and found herself wanting to round off her skills further in all areas of nursing. Abi is driven to support and ease the burdens of living with complex care needs and supporting residents and their families through end-of-life care. Abi continues to drive quality improvement and positive change, by leading the nursing team and enhancing family communication here at Rushall. Since joining and leading care delivery here at Rushall Care Home Abi has formed strong therapeutic relations with all areas of the multidisciplinary team based here in Walsall.

Tracey always thought she wasn’t clever enough to go to University, but we are so very pleased that she did.

Hi, I’m John, I came to Rushall Care Home in 2020. I previously worked at Nicholl Food Group as a site maintenance manager. I had decided to take it easier and join Rushall to work 3 days a week with zero pressure. Who knew that I’d end up supporting the home through a whole home rejuvenation? If we aren’t throwing it out, we’re painting it or moving it, but I’m having a lot of fun. My brother works for one of our sister homes Woodgreen Nursing Home - Wednesbury now too.

My name is Michelle, I am the Head Chef here at Rushall, I have been here since 2002. I started in catering completing a YTS training scheme at Springfield Brewry in Wolverhampton. I moved on to Bilston College to complete numerous City and Guilds and ULCI pastry courses. I have previous waitressing skills and Duty Manager skills at Hilton Park. I never planned to stay here at Rushall, yet I have now been here 18 years and I am very happy here. I love interacting with the residents, providing meals which are warm and nutritious, on a style of home from home. My team and I prepare and serve meals for various dietary requirements, in a consistency which maintains safety and ensure the enjoyablilty of eating each day.

My name is Lynn, I have been here at Rushall for many years. I started as a carer in 1992, as the housekeeper was leaving I showed an interest in becoming the new Head Housekeeper. I have been completing this role for 5-6 years now. I lead a team of 4 staff to ensure that the home is presented to its best ability. I like all aspects of my job, this includes making sure that the house is nice and clean and tidy. I particualry ensure the interaction with the residents and thier families.

I provided activities through Girl Guiding, I was a qualified leader for 10 years, mainly with Rainbows (5-7 years of age). I have previously worked within a residential home catering to the needs of EMI placement, I did this for four and half years while I was studying a BSc in Animal behavior and wildlife conservation. I fell in love with providing activity provision. I saw the job become available here at Rushall and love working here.Whilst working here at Rushall I was nominated for the West Midlands Care Association Excellence in Care. My favourite thing about my job is how unique each resident is and providing person centred support for each resident.

I worked my way up to Sous Chef and completed my hotel career on The Pass, leaving in 2004. I came to Rushall Care Home 16 years ago and I am very happy here.

Hi Rushall, my name is Jennie and I have worked here at Rushall for 7 years now. I initially started as a carer, but I am now working as a nurses assistant and lead the care team.


I love working with residents and the families, thier needs are my first concern. Supporting my carers is next on my list. I enjoy delivering good palliative care, but do struggle with the emotional side of things.


I really enjoy working here at Rushall we have such a family atmosphere here. I could not recommend our home enough.

My name is Sandra, I’ve been working here at Rushall since February 2020, exactly a year now. Before working here I was an RMN/EMN, I started my nurse training in 1979 at St Matthews in Burntwood, I continued to work at St Matthews and the George Bryan centre after I qualified. I retired in 2016 but got bored. When I saw a vacancy here at Rushall I eagerly applied and was successful. I really love working here, meeting the residents and staff and having a good time.
