I just want to express how incredibly grateful I am to the wonderful team at Rushall for taking care of Dad with such kindness and devotion. Dad took up residence in April 2019 suffering from symptoms of dementia and was no longer able to live independently which he really struggled to come to terms
with. The standard of day-to-day care, the food and the amazing range of activities provided in the home are truly amazing. As soon as you walk through the door, you immediately feel like you are at home, with a warm welcome, a smile or a hug when you need one. The staff really do treat each resident like a member of their own family so you can rest assured that your loved one is in safe hands. As Dad’s health deteriorated, the dedicated nursing team were fully equipped to ensure that he received the appropriate medication and end-of-life care, meaning that he was able to spend his final days in familiar surroundings and with dignity. Thank you so much to the manager and his amazing team.

Mom has been at Rushall Care Home for the past six and a half years, until she recently passed away.


Carers who welcomed Mom into the home were there for her at the end, having cared for her throughout her time at Rushall. They knew her well and understood her needs, they knew what worked for Mom

and what didn't. Mom preferred to stay in her room so very often activities were taken to her to ensure she was included in as much as possible.


Mom always enjoyed her food and while at Rushall she received good and varied meals, usually sending back empty plates.


The staff were always approachable and supportive, no matter what. We have always been made very welcome. Staff have always talked to us about issues as they have arisen and we have always had input into mom's care.


Would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a good, caring, happy environment.

Wow what can I say, only the biggest thank you for having my brother in this fantastic home, who has settled well. My brother is poor now and needs to rest and be in a peaceful, safe environment and he is in just the place. It has took many years to find somewhere where I can finally relax a bit myself,
knowing he is well looked after. All staff are fantastic, helpful and professional and good humoured. As a retired nurse myself I know excellent standards when I see them. Love you all.

My 90-year-old mum has been at Rushall Care Home for six and a half years. We have seen staff come and go but the team there now are spot on! My mum has had her ups and downs and the manager and his team have been wonderful. They listen, guide you and deal with everything that comes along. They accept
if they don’t have something quite right but they have such a strong team and systems in place that they soon sort it.
Every member of staff will listen to any concern you have, sort it or send you in the right direction to make sure everyone is happy.
Mum has recently passed away, of course, a very difficult time for us but every single member of staff helped us through it. I wouldn’t have wanted Mum to be anywhere other than Rushall.
I wholeheartedly trusted them with my mum.
The staff at Rushall are a fantastic team with the residents' needs at the heart of everything they do.
I shout out from the rooftops my praise to them all!

Dad is receiving amazing care from regular carers who know him well. Despite his dementia, Dad has retained his humour and occasional banter and the carers have identified how to use this to most engage Dad. Care is therefore carried out in a person-centred way. Meals are varied, balanced and of the
appropriate texture for Dad to enjoy. When unwell, with reduced appetite, supplements have been introduced. There are lots of activities adapted to meet all residents' individual needs and therefore inclusive of all. The home is welcoming and friendly with good professional knowledge. Health needs have been picked up and responded to swiftly. Watching a loved one navigate dementia has impacted on my well-being, staff recognise this and are caring to family too. I can't thank all of the staff enough for their meaningful, thoughtful care. Absolutely recommend this home-from-home.

I love it here. I feel really loved here by the carers and management. Entertainment is great; I feel so included here in all that goes on. The general manager, activities co-ordinator, deputy general manager and all the carers are so good to me. I thank God the day they brought me here; after my husband

I have been in care for five years in three other care settings and I can categorically say that this is by far the best. The facilities are excellent and the care staff are warm, friendly and so helpful. There is a real sense of community here and it feels like my home.

My mom moved into Rushall Care Home recently and I’m so pleased that she’s now standing with assistance and sitting in a chair. The staff have been encouraging her and even though she was very ill before Christmas and not able to do anything she is gradually gaining more independence and returning to
her ‘old self’.
She turned 90 years of age when she moved in and the manager and staff were very accommodating, allowing us to use their beautiful newly refurbished lounge for the family to gather together. She loved it. Thank you.

My daughter was transferred here from a hospice. She has spent the last 5 weeks of her life here, she has been cared for by all staff with love and tenderness. She settled very well and looked after all her visitors by staff always offering to feed us. As her mother, I offer all my love and thanks for

My mother was a resident for 15 months until her passing in August 2022.
All her time there she was treated with love, compassion and dignity.
The staff were very caring, professional and friendly, I couldn't have managed the last months without them. They became part of our family. Thank you all.

I have been a resident in Rushall Care Home for two weeks of respite care and I can honestly say I have enjoyed it. I have never laughed so much. The staff are all wonderful, they work so hard. You get a cuddle if you are feeling a bit down. The activities are great. I had lost weight in the hospital
but the food is lovely and fresh, they have fed me up. Well done to the manager and the girls.

I am very pleased with how they have treated my mother-in-law, she lost her husband of 47 years in July and has been very lonely and frightened at home, within a day we all saw the difference in her, they all have a good chat, treat her so good, she is so happy there, they do everything she wants can't
thank them enough, you can tell they really do care and take great care in their work, I was a carer and have seen so many bad carers over the years, but they are all so great very pleased no complaints.

When I was first admitted to Russell Nursing Home I really didn't want to stay. Because I was so out of it and not well, but after a couple of weeks I was feeling really well again and getting about, because of the care I have received from the people in here from management, carers and kitchen staff.

I am Phil Toomer-Smith the General Manager here at Rushall Care Home. I began my nursing career in 2006 at the University of Wolverhampton, and have since gained experience in Medical, Surgical, Trauma and Intensive care. I have a passion for delivering good palliative and dementia care services. Previous to nursing I worked in the tourism sector with airlines and hotels so I take customer service very seriously.


I have worked in the community with nursing homes for the last 10 years, starting as a nurse, through to deputy manager and general manager. I moved back to the Midlands in 2020 from the Channel Islands after working there for 7 years.


I enjoy developing my team and eagerly push training and education to ensure that the care delivered is up to date with current standards. I have continued with my education and since qualifying I have completed a BSc in nursing, a Diploma in nursing home management and a postgraduate Diploma in healthcare law and ethics.


I strive to lead a team of staff who enjoy their work and want to develop, as this will only benefit the care our residents receive.

Abi is our Deputy General Manager. Abi has been with us since September 2022 and qualified as an RNLD from Birmingham City University in 2019. This was due to supporting a friend through access to a nursing course and choosing to stay in nursing herself. Previous to nursing Abi has held various forms of employment including being a public house licensee and an NVQ sign-off. Abi gained her foundational clinical skills primarily in forensic psychiatric fields and found herself wanting to round off her skills further in all areas of nursing. Abi is driven to support and ease the burdens of living with complex care needs and supporting residents and their families through end-of-life care. Abi continues to drive quality improvement and positive change, by leading the nursing team and enhancing family communication here at Rushall. Since joining and leading care delivery here at Rushall Care Home Abi has formed strong therapeutic relations with all areas of the multidisciplinary team based here in Walsall.

If we aren’t throwing it out, we’re painting it or moving it, but I’m having a lot of fun. My brother works for one of our sister homes Woodgreen Nursing Home - Wednesbury now too.

My name is Michelle, I am the Head Chef here at Rushall, I have been here since 2002. I started in catering completing a YTS training scheme at Springfield Brewry in Wolverhampton. I moved on to Bilston College to complete numerous City and Guilds and ULCI pastry courses. I have previous waitressing skills and Duty Manager skills at Hilton Park. I never planned to stay here at Rushall, yet I have now been here 18 years and I am very happy here. I love interacting with the residents, providing meals which are warm and nutritious, on a style of home from home. My team and I prepare and serve meals for various dietary requirements, in a consistency which maintains safety and ensure the enjoyablilty of eating each day.

My name is Lynn, I have been here at Rushall for many years. I started as a carer in 1992, as the housekeeper was leaving I showed an interest in becoming the new Head Housekeeper. I have been completing this role for 5-6 years now. I lead a team of 4 staff to ensure that the home is presented to its best ability. I like all aspects of my job, this includes making sure that the house is nice and clean and tidy. I particualry ensure the interaction with the residents and thier families.

I provided activities through Girl Guiding, I was a qualified leader for 10 years, mainly with Rainbows (5-7 years of age). I have previously worked within a residential home catering to the needs of EMI placement, I did this for four and half years while I was studying a BSc in Animal behavior and wildlife conservation. I fell in love with providing activity provision. I saw the job become available here at Rushall and love working here.Whilst working here at Rushall I was nominated for the West Midlands Care Association Excellence in Care. My favourite thing about my job is how unique each resident is and providing person centred support for each resident.

I started working for Trust Forte hotels in 1985 to complete my kitchen training and completed my City & Guilds Catering Level 2 with Walsall College. I worked my way up to Sous Chef and completed my hotel career on The Pass, leaving in 2004. I came to Rushall Care Home 16 years ago and I am very happy here.

Hi Rushall, my name is Jennie and I have worked here at Rushall for 7 years now. I initially started as a carer, but I am now working as a nurses assistant and lead the care team.


I love working with residents and the families, thier needs are my first concern. Supporting my carers is next on my list. I enjoy delivering good palliative care, but do struggle with the emotional side of things.


I really enjoy working here at Rushall we have such a family atmosphere here. I could not recommend our home enough.

Hi all, I’ve worked here at Rushall since 2015, before that I worked as a community carer for 3 years. I have also worked as a private 1:1 carer, for around 10 years. I love to learn and have my NVQ2 and 3, Dementia level 2 and medication qualifications. I love my job and do my best to keep all the residents safe and happy. Working at Rushall is like my second family.

I love Rushall very much, I eagerly returned after my maternity leave. Having my little boy means that I can only work once a week, and extra when I can. I treat all of the residents as my own family. I am very bubbly, even after a long night shift.

Hi all, I’ve worked here at Rushall since 2017, previously to working here I’ve been a support worker with people who have learning difficulties. My name is Sandra, I’ve been working here at Rushall since February 2020, exactly a year now. Before working here I was an RMN/EMN, I started my nurse training in 1979 at St Matthews in Burntwood, I continued to work at St Matthews and the George Bryan centre after I qualified. I retired in 2016 but got bored. When I saw a vacancy here at Rushall I eagerly applied and was successful. I really love working here, meeting the residents and staff and having a good time.
