I have been in care for five years in three other care settings and I can categorically say that this is by far the best. The facilities are excellent and the care staff are warm, friendly and so helpful. There is a real sense of community here and it feels like my home.

Thank you to all the staff for making Rushall such a special and pleasant place to be.

My mom moved into Rushall Care Home recently and I’m so pleased that she’s now standing with assistance and sitting in a chair. The staff have been encouraging her and even though she was very ill before Christmas and not able to do anything she is gradually gaining more independence and returning to her ‘old self’.

She turned 90 years of age when she moved in and the manager and staff were very accommodating, allowing us to use their beautiful newly refurbished lounge for the family to gather together. She loved it. Thank you.

My daughter was transferred here from a hospice. She has spent the last 5 weeks of her life here, she has been cared for by all staff with love and tenderness. She settled very well and looked after all her visitors by staff always offering to feed us. As her mother, I offer all my love and thanks for all they did.

God bless you all.

My mother was a resident for 15 months until her passing in August 2022.

I have been a resident in Rushall Care Home for two weeks of respite care and I can honestly say I have enjoyed it. I have never laughed so much. The staff are all wonderful, they work so hard. You get a cuddle if you are feeling a bit down. The activities are great. I had lost weight in the hospital but the food is lovely and fresh, they have fed me up. Well done to the manager and the girls.

Rushall care home welcomed my mother with open arms. Their support and professionalism is second to none and we as a family can't thank all the staff, (you are all lovely) and the manager enough, you should all be very proud of yourselves. Mom was very unhappy since the passing of our father recently and you have put the sparkle back into her life. To the Manager thank you for your quick response to our urgent situation. Top man.

I am very pleased with how they have treated my mother-in-law, she lost her husband of 47 years in July and has been very lonely and frightened at home, within a day we all saw the difference in her, they all have a good chat, treat her so good, she is so happy there, they do everything she wants can't thank them enough, you can tell they really do care and take great care in their work, I was a carer and have seen so many bad carers over the years, but they are all so great very pleased no complaints.

When I was first admitted to Russell Nursing Home I really didn't want to stay. Because I was so out of it and not well, but after a couple of weeks I was feeling really well again and getting about, because of the care I have received from the people in here from management, carers and kitchen staff.

Excellent care home. My niece suffered from Huntington's Disease which is an extremely debilitating condition. She was a resident with Rushall Care Home for around 6 months, and in that time she received excellent care. The staff were invariably caring and showed her the respect that she deserved. The care home made excellent adjustments to her diet when she became unable to chew and managed to create tasty food in spite of this. There was a regular range of activities for residents and my niece was able to partake in these. There was also good communication to me when needed. Strongly recommend the care home.

My dad came into Rushall Care Home from hospital, not a well man he was only 63 years old the Home Manager and day staff and night staff and the nurses looked after him really well he got on with everyone there, even seen a smile which it had been a long time since he did that, my dad liked his own company in his room and all the staff always popped in for a chat he loved his TV and DVDs. Towards the end of his life, everyone was so caring and always came in to ask if we were ok and if we need anything, when he did pass away everyone was there for us giving us the time to say goodbye to my dad, I could not ask for a better care home so glad he went there. If anyone is looking for a good and friendly care home I would recommend it to anyone five stars keep up the good work. And again thank you for everything.

I visited five care homes and was feeling broken, I had made my mom a promise I couldn’t keep months before and she was the end of life and I could not have her at home due to her complex health issues. Then I visited Rushall Care Home, the minute I entered the home my worries started to fade. The warmth that comes from every member of staff within the first five minutes of waiting to be seen left me feeling lighter. Mom moved in for two weeks before she passed and I can honestly say she got exceptional care. Nothing was too much trouble. Banter was a plenty and kindness was abundant. My mom was treated with dignity and respect and I can honestly say if you can have a good death, that is what she got. My family were made to feel so welcome and Mom was happy there and that is all that mattered. When the manager showed me around he had so much passion for the home and it showed in all his staff. l 100% recommend this wonderful home and am happy to speak personally to anyone to verify.

Mum had approx 1 week of care at Rushall before she passed away. In that one week, she had more care than the months spent at her previous nursing home combined. The staff were knowledgeable, helpful, respectful to my brother and I when mum passed away. They couldn't do enough for mum or the family. They actually 'care'. I can't praise them highly enough. Thank you so much for making mum comfortable in her last days.

Overall, the care given and received was carried out with compassion, dignity and kindness. Although the team were obviously busy, they always gave their time when needed for either intervention or answering questions. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere between the team and also in the environment. Although the home was mid-refurbished, it was clean and furnished well. The floors and rooms which were complete, were very nice.

Phil Toomer-SmithJob Title:General ManagerJoined: 2020

I am Phil Toomer-Smith the General Manager here at Rushall Care Home. I began my nursing career in 2006 at the University of Wolverhampton, and have since gained experience in Medical, Surgical, Trauma and Intensive care. I have a passion for delivering good palliative and dementia care services. Previous to nursing I worked in the tourism sector with airlines and hotels so I take customer service very seriously.

I have worked in the community with nursing homes for the last 10 years, starting as a nurse, through to deputy manager and general manager. I moved back to the Midlands in 2020 from the Channel Islands after working there for 7 years.

I enjoy developing my team and eagerly push training and education to ensure that the care delivered is up to date with current standards. I have continued with my education and since qualifying I have completed a BSc in nursing, a Diploma in nursing home management and a postgraduate Diploma in healthcare law and ethics.

I strive to lead a team of staff who enjoy their work and want to develop, as this will only benefit the care our residents receive.

Abi is our Deputy General Manager. Abi has been with us since September 2022 and qualified as an RNLD from Birmingham City University in 2019. This was due to supporting a friend through access to a nursing course and choosing to stay in nursing herself. Previous to nursing Abi has held various forms of employment including being a public house licensee and an NVQ sign-off. Abi gained her foundational clinical skills primarily in forensic psychiatric fields and found herself wanting to round off her skills further in all areas of nursing. Abi is driven to support and ease the burdens of living with complex care needs and supporting residents and their families through end-of-life care. Abi continues to drive quality improvement and positive change, by leading the nursing team and enhancing family communication here at Rushall.
