My dad has been in Highwell for just over two years following a major stroke. We managed to get him transferred there following a very stressful few weeks when he was discharged into a poor-quality care home from the hospital. The difference was huge. The care home manager sent us a photo of him on the terrace the day of his arrival; this was the first time in months had been dressed and in the fresh air. The location and building are great with beautiful views, there are regular activities but the main positive is the staff and their care, professionalism and warmth. My dad has struggled with adjusting to his stroke and a new way of life; the friendliness and the humour of the care staff have been a lifeline for both him and our family.

Our uncle was only at the home for a few days receiving palliative care. We cannot express our gratitude or put into words how fantastic the staff were with our uncle. The care and personal support he and we as a family received during this difficult time was exceptional. All I can say is thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. I'm so glad we could support both your uncle and yourselves during a period of time which was so difficult for you all as a family. Sending all our love and best wishes to you.

I cannot speak more highly of the home and the staff. My mother's room was bright and airy with lovely big windows, it was warm and homely and kept spotlessly clean. The communal facilities were excellent, with lovely furnishings, fresh flowers, and beautiful views across the open countryside. What really sets Highwell apart however is the amazing staff, nothing was too much trouble, the care they gave to my mother was exemplary and we (the family) were always warmly welcomed and looked after when visiting. There is clearly a culture of genuine care and compassion for the residents. Thank you Highwell House.

Thank you for this fabulous review. It was a privilege to be able to care for your mum, just when she needed us most. We could see how much you loved and cherished your mum and to be a part of her loving care was an honour for us. You were all wonderful, thank you for choosing Highwell House and entrusting us with your mum's care.

We recently attended a quiz night at Highwell and were very impressed by the place itself, the atmosphere and the staff. We sat in a modern and comfortable dining area with a mixture of residents and non-residents. It was so nice to see the staff interacting with the residents, having a joke with them and treating them as equals. The buffet was delicious and was provided by the cook who was obviously well thought of. All monies raised were to go towards activities for the residents and we were introduced to a new member of staff who would be organising those activities for them. It was a lovely evening, well-done everyone.

Superb nursing home. My Mum arrived very unwell and now she is walking, eating, socialising and enjoying life. She is very happy here and feels safe.

All the staff are fantastic and warm and friendly. Mum has settled in very quickly and enjoys chatting with everyone and is completely at home. The management team have been exceptional in looking after Mum and communicating with us. We could not have found a more caring and well-organised nursing home.

It’s the little things that matter. What a wrench leaving your marital home after a long happy marriage. Highwell House did an incredible job to make my father’s transition a happy one. The amazing chef and her team ensured he’d have the specific breakfast he’d always eaten. It’s also the fresh flowers on the tables, the smiling greetings as staff pass by, the extra mile nurses and carers go to care for and befriend residents. It’s also night staff who carefully and quietly monitor all is well, the pride the cleaning staff take to refresh rooms, the gardener’s hard work to create well cared for outdoor spaces to enjoy. All these things added together with strong approachable leadership from the manger and deputy manager make Highwell House deserving of its outstanding status .

What a beautiful review, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, but really you should also be included on this list, as its the love and support from families that when working alongside the team members makes all the difference and creates a happy, safe and positive experience for our residents. Thank you.

When Mum needed long-term care, her first choice was Highwell House as she knew the home as she had been a District Nurse in Bromyard many years ago and the home was part of her round. As a family, we couldn't ask for more. The staff are professional and caring to the whole family. I would highly recommend Highwell.

Most of my scoring is 'good' after my relative has been in the Home for nearly two years. Almost all the staff are good at their various jobs and the residents are well looked after. Some of the residents who have poor mental capacity can be very awkward but are treated with sympathy and no anger, rather than the opposite. The home itself is nicely furnished with plenty of public space and lovely views. It has a relaxed atmosphere, again helped by the staff who sometimes take time out to sit and talk to the residents. It is also amenable if one wants something extra and has refrigerator space for the little special foods which make such a difference to certain residents. The system for checking food intake and medicines runs smoothly. To be honest, what more could one want?

Having spent quite some time researching and visiting a few care homes around the Bromyard area, I was struggling to feel any felt right for Mum until I walked through the door of Highwell House Nursing Home and met the Home Manager. I knew immediately it was the right one for Mum, it has a home from home feel and the room available for Mum was just lovely so pretty and cosy with an en-suite which was important, Mum moved in end of October and she loves it, shes settled really well and the staff are so kind and calm really lovely its always a pleasure to visit Mum and I now feel its a Home from Home, I know Mum is cared for 24/7 but also treated with the utmost respect and the manager organises so many lovely treats and trips out for the residents it an amazing place.

When Dad decided he needed permanent care we found on our first contact with the home manager to be excellent.
Beautiful location, very clean and tidy, staff very friendly and helpful and according to dad the food is great!

Would recommend Highwell to anyone seeking a well run home.

My husband has been resident at Highwell House since early December 2021 when he was booked in for a period of one week's respite care. Subsequently, it was recognised that he is in need of 24 hour a day nursing care and a room was made available to him.
As a family, we are all so happy with the professional way in which he is treated, and the evident rapport which all the staff have with him - always patient and caring, always ready to jolly him along when necessary - even when, as sometimes happens, he presses his buzzer and says "Please can we have some tea and sandwiches!"
We are frequently welcomed to join the residents for a variety of events - the Queen's jubilee celebration this year being one which was so enjoyable with all the staff prepared to go the extra mile to ensure residents' inclusion.

I will be eternally grateful to all the staff at Highwell House, an absolute shining example to care homes everywhere.

My wife spent 10 days at Highwell House Nursing & Residential Care whilst I was having surgery. Her initial apprehension was quickly dispelled by the friendly and warm welcome which she experienced: both she and I were impressed at my being invited to stay with her for lunch on the first day as this contributed to a smooth and gentle settling in process. Our daughters were equally impressed when they visited her. The staff were understanding and thoughtful in their care and encouraged her to join in the various activities and communicate with the other residents.

The care my mother received was outstanding at Highwell House. She was treated with dignity and compassion by nurses and carers alike. I also stayed with my mum for the last few days of her life and the staff made sure that I was also cared for. In a nutshell, all staff at Highwell House are amazing. They kept us informed about all Mum's pain relief and made sure that she was free from pain at all times. Excellent care.

My wife had to leave another home due to poor care. Since she has been at Highwell House, we have been very impressed with the staff and the care she receives.
Covid has made things difficult, but both I and our children can relax knowing she is well looked after. It is great now things have relaxed a bit now we can visit in the lounge.
Before the Covid issues the chef cooked a special meal for her birthday at the table, which was excellent. This is just one example of the team going the extra mile.
We are always greeted with smiles and made to feel welcome.

For someone suffering from dementia who cannot care for herself, I can't think of a better location.

Dad has been living at Highwell House now for over a year, he has received and continues to receive the professional care he needs from a very supportive and loving care team. He’s thoroughly spoilt by all of the staff, and I feel they have become his extended family. The manager and her lovely team work so hard not only to make Dad feel comfortable but to make him happy, reassured and safe. Throughout the pandemic, they have worked tirelessly to ensure all of the residents are protected but have also managed to keep us in contact via social media etc. Visiting is easy and never an issue, it’s always lovely to see dad and how he interacts with his carers in such a comfortable and relaxed way. Thanks to the manager and her hard working team Dad has settled very well into life at Highwell House, I am so grateful to them all.

My mother has been a resident at Highwell House for nearly three years now and during that time I have nothing but praise for the help and support that staff at the home have given to her.
So much time and care is afforded to each of the residents at the home, to best meet their specific requirements.
My mother recently celebrated a special birthday, and staff ensured that the day was memorable, making the effort to decorate her surroundings with personalised decorations. Mom really enjoyed her day.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Highwell House as a wonderful environment for a cherished loved one. It truly is a remarkable Home.
