The whole of Highwell, from room to car parks to welcome entrance from all members of staff, cleanliness of the whole building inside and out. It was a joy to visit my husband while he was in Highwell and to know he was well and truly taken care of. I couldn't thank them enough.

My father was at Highwell's as part of an NHS rehab programme following hospital treatment for a fractured femur followed by a stroke.
He was integrated well into the 'Home' environment. Staff were very kind and accommodating.
External support was readily facilitated to aid his rehabilitation.
Family
members/visitors were treated courteously.
The manager always had time to explain the programme and my fathers condition.

My relative (94) has now been a resident at Highwell House for nearly 2 years following 2 strokes which left him in need of 24-hour nursing care.
He is able to communicate his wishes but not able to hold long conversations.
During this time, his care has been excellent and all staff members are caring
and considerate towards him. The nurse/manager in charge of the home sets high standards to which all staff comply. She is available and willing to discuss any concerns that a relative may have about the resident. There is a friendly atmosphere in the home. There has always been good, clear, communication between staff and myself both face to face and on the phone.

Highwell House is an absolute gem and its all down to the brilliant staff. The manager has such a cheerful approach and clearly loves the place and this creates a warm friendly atmosphere with well-motivated staff who are fully engaged with the residents. I chose Highwell House because of its reputation
for palliative and end of life care. Mum has a terminal illness so that was uppermost in my mind. I consulted her palliative care nurse from the hospice and she gave me the assurances I needed and gave me extra confidence in my decision. Mum is now in her third week and I am amazed at how well she is doing. She joins in all the daily activities - art class, Tai Chi, armchair aerobics, poetry club cookery club, music sessions etc. I thought she had lost interest in everything but her face lights up with the pleasure of these activities. They have a full-time activities coordinator and they make sure all the residents' interests are catered for. They also have a mini bus available and Mum has been on two trips out already. I am just bowled over by the love and care. They really do go far beyond simply looking after people. They have created a real home from home and it is a pleasure for me to visit her there.

My husband and I continue to stay at Highwell House. The staff are very involved with the residents and assiduous in their care and attention to our needs. The staff provide a full range of activities every day has two or three activities for residents to join in including cooking, gardening, knitting,
quiz nights and outings for the residents such as a visit to the seaside, garden centres, shopping trips and occasional evening drinks on the terrace. I was unwell earlier this year and had to undergo surgery and radiotherapy. Staff were very supportive throughout my treatment and were always there to listen to my concerns and ensured that I got through this difficult time as little upset as possible.
Best of all my husband and I can still be together and we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with a party of friends and family.

My father has been at Highwell House for over 3 years. In that time, he has been treated so well by all the staff. Any needs are met, and the home manager gets in touch immediately if there is any change in his condition. He is cared for by a fantastic team who I have tremendous admiration for.

The home provided my mum with top quality care, giving her back her dignity and allowing us to spend quality time together. There is a wonderful atmosphere, which is always very positive and caring. All the staff go that extra mile.

My mother stayed at Highwell House for two weeks. The staff were caring, the food was lovely and my mother really enjoyed the activities. I think leaving was really quite hard for her. If my mother has to go into residential/nursing care again I would hope that it would be somewhere like Highwell House.
