My mum, aged 90, moved in for nursing care back in November. The staff have been just wonderful. I think our family can be a bit annoying because we’re very close and there have been so many visitors for three months. But it never felt inconvenient. Always like home with beautiful staff who we have become so close to. My mum has had the best care - caring but always hugely professional. Nothing has been too much trouble and I will never know how to repay Alveston Leys and Bupa. I would love to name everyone but there are too many. However, I think if you have an excellent manager you attract excellent staff. Thank you Alveston.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such genuine and kind feedback.
I have been at Alveston Leys Care Home for two weeks respite care and have been very kindly cared for. Every member of staff whom I have met has been attentive, polite and caring. I have been very pleased to be here.
We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Alveston Leys. We hope to see you again in the future.
Food very good presented very well. Staff very helpful. Extremely helpful and courteous.
Thank you for your kind words. We hope to see you again in the future.
Alveston Leys has been extremely helpful through a difficult experience of finding a care home. As she has Aspergers Syndrome and is now 81 years old, recently (April this year) had a stroke - the after-effects needing nursing care, which have proved to be extremely successful. The nurses have been very kind to my sister and more importantly have kept us informed of her needs and her progress - well done Alveston Leys.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review during what must have been a very stressful time for you. It's lovely to hear how about the staff's kindness towards your sister. I hope she continues to be very happy there. Best wishes.
Alveston Leys Care Home is a most welcoming place. The staff are the element that makes the home special. They are all kind, caring and even loving towards the residents. They perform their daily tasks not only professionally but with true affection that comes from the heart.
Thank you for your kind words. We have genuine regard for all of our residents, so it is always nice to get such positive feedback.
Warm and friendly atmosphere. Kind, helpful and willing staff. Room 18 is very bright and welcoming, with plenty of space.
Thank you for your kind words. We are delighted to hear you are enjoying your room and the care provided.
I visited at least a dozen times for several hours at a time - the staff were delightful and helpful at all times.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback.
Food variable - porridge very good.
All carers very cheerful and helpful.
If I asked, I got. Unless I asked, things didn't necessarily happen.
We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. There is always something we can improve upon so we are very grateful for the feedback.
My husband has been coming in for respite usually once a week every 5-6 weeks this year for nearly four years, the staff are welcoming and kind. The home is always clean and everyone is treated with respect, both residents and relatives. The staff endeavour to ensure all the individual needs are met and they manage the whole variety of care needs well. The senior nurse management is also excellent.
Thank you for your kind words. We are very happy to hear your husband enjoys his stays with us. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon.
My mum has Alzheimer's and comes for respite when we go away. She likes it very much and the staff always remember her (even if she doesn't remember them!) and are very good with her. It is a very happy and friendly home with activities for everyone, if they want to be involved, they don't have to join in if they don't want to.
Thank you for your kind words, Daphne.
I could not have had kinder or more caring carers and I am very grateful to them all. Food quite good, I think the quality could be addressed. I am only in transit as it were and have been here a week. My room and bathroom have not been cleaned throughout, though seems nice, bright and clean throughout I do feel my bathroom should have been seen to, if not every day, every other day and bedside table and floor at least twice in the week.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We will certainly discuss your feedback with the manager to help us continually improve our service.
The care home is clean, smells clean and all staff are very helpful. A member of staff also takes extra time to inform me of any problems with my Mother every time the doctor has seen my Mother, therefore at every stage of my Mother's stay I am kept totally informed of any health problem that my Mother might incur. The food is excellent, like being in a 5-star hotel. The staff are very kind, polite, considerate and cheerful. The different clubs that are offered are excellent with the various activities.

My wife and I are pleased and relieved that my parents are comfortable and well looked after at Alveston Leys. They have recently decided my father's health will not permit his return home so he is likely to spend the rest of his life with you. We are very grateful to all the staff for their warmth and kindness to my parents. Our only concern is that there are occasions where there are not enough staff to deal with the urgent physical needs of residents. Given that, my parents are paying around £2000 per week for their care. BUPA needs to ensure adequate levels of staffing to maintain the excellent reputation of Alveston Leys.

Since coming to Alveston Leys mum has improved greatly. She is now happy and much more stable. Mainly due to the wonderful care she receives and the knowledge that she is in such a lovely care home. I am a registered nurse myself and know the expertise required to look after mum. Reading mums care plan I was very impressed with the respect and level of attention mum receives every day. My mum was a nurse herself when she was younger and has always been a very strong and determined person. We greatly appreciate the fantastic care Alveston Leys provides for our wonderful mum. Thank you.

Mum had a very troubled time before going to Alveston Leys, but her condition has now stabilised and Mum is very settled. This is because of the wonderful nursing and care team at Alveston. Mum needs total care and I can see from the way Mum responds to staff that she is happy and comfortable in their care.
Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments of our home. We will certainly pass on your feedback with the homes manager. The Bupa Customer Care Team
My aunt is happy in the home, her only concern is the time taken to respond to calls, also the changing staff. She is very involved in their lives and families from whatever part of the world they are from and then they sadly move.
Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service. The Bupa Customer Care Team.

All staff very obliging and helpful.

The care here is excellent; all my mother's needs have been met.
Firstly on the residential side, she enjoyed activities, the garden and contact with other people. Now on the nursing side, she is kept safe and comfortable.
I would recommend this care home to others.

Excellent first impression from desk staff - they used my sister's correct preferred name (quite unusual in hospitals). Everyone seemed very friendly, kind and helpful. Good level of care, pleasant rooms, beautiful garden. Very nice to be able to move around the building easily - codes to doors given to us to make it easier - a great help. My sister enjoyed the meals she had. Poor or non-existent wifi which was a problem as we would have liked to have used it for communication with her.
Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service.
Regular staff all capable, kind and dependable. Some of the younger agency staff sometimes lack experience.

Meet the Team (6)

I am a registered mental health nurse. I have worked in the health and Social care sector for 40 years. I started as a volunteer when I was 16 years old, working in hospitals. Since training and qualifying in 1987, I have worked in acute psychiatry, complex mental health, physical disabilities, and palliative care in the community.
I have worked in all roles within the setting, including a nurse, deputy manager, general manager, clinical specialist roles, and teaching foundation level up to FE level. Training and specialist knowledge: dementia care, complex mental health, and I have completed palliative care and end-of-life care at a degree level, plus Teaching and assessing in clinical practice. I have a professional interest in residents' rights, mental capacity and person-centred care practices.

I moved to England in 2003 from Romania, where I was a Theatre Nurse for 11 years. I joined as a Senior Carer and completed a return to practice course; then I was promoted to Registered Nurse in 2009 and then Senior Sister in 2017.
I enjoy making a difference to our residents and their families and specialise in palliative and end-of-life care. Keeping our residents comfortable and happy is very important to me, and my role is very rewarding.
At every opportunity, I will attend training courses and conferences to continue to develop my skills and knowledge.
I live locally with my husband and 2 children, and I enjoy walking, cycling, baking and always have a good book on the go.

I'm Janet, the receptionist here at Alveston Leys. I help and care for residents' families as they visit and assist residents with any daily requests, ensuring they're happy.
I live within walking distance to the home (weather permitting). I have one daughter who now lives in Bristol. In my spare time I love meeting up with her, going to the theatre, reading, keeping fit and socialising with my friends.

I live locally with my husband and daughter, who was a “lockdown baby”. I often bring her in to visit the residents which they both enjoy.

I have worked at Bupa for 12 years and have been at Alveston Leys for 2 years in my role of Activity Co-ordinator.
I love my job as an Activity Coordinator, especially being able to make a difference in the well-being of the residents.
I have a passion for films and food and enjoy keeping fit by playing squash and taking part in ultra-challenge charity walks.

I have worked at Alveston Leys for 20 years. I moved to England in 2004 from Romania to join my wife. Prior to moving here, I was working as an engineer in a foundry. I started at Alveston Leys as a Kitchen Assistant, progressing to Assistant Chef, and 5 years ago I transferred to become the Maintenance Operator.
I enjoy working here as I like to help the residents fix things - even if it's just odd jobs around the home. I love chatting with residents and finding out about their lives.
I live locally to the home with my wife, Dani, and my 2 children. In my spare time I enjoy walking, cooking and watching a good movie!
