Galanos House is situated on the edge of Southam, a small market town in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. The home is set within a number of attractive landscaped gardens. The home organises regular shopping trips in their minibus, as well as visits to the nearby historic towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon and Rugby.

At Galanos House, they recognise the importance of residents’ shared experiences. People there form special bonds and make new friends. They offer nursing, residential and dementia care, as well as respite and day care. The home is purpose built and opened on its current site in September 2002. It now has 91 spacious single rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. The smaller lounge areas and seating alcoves give the home a cosy, comfortable feeling, where you can sit and relax with a good book, enjoy a board game or chat with friends over a coffee. The air-conditioned conservatory gives the space an outdoor feel with an indoor temperature.

The care at Galanos House has been classified as ‘outstanding’ following a Care Quality Commission inspection in November 2017. Galanos House was also named ‘Care Home of the Year 2015’ by the National Care Awards, for its high standard of care and dedicated dementia care unit, Poppy Lodge.

The social side to life at Galanos House is very important. Their wellbeing team make sure there’s always lots to look forward to, including quizzes, art and craftwork, dancing, singing and concerts. Guests are always welcome to join residents for a meal in the dining room. The in-house cinema and bar add to the residents’ enjoyment. Camaraderie, social interaction and helping residents pursue their hobbies and interests play a big part in the day-to-day life at Galanos House.

1. Inquiry - RBL Galanos House, was welcoming, answered my questions, felt safe and listened to.
2. Application - process was clear and exceeded my expectation. It covered eligibility, the forms 'This is me' and 'accessibility' were so goof to have mum voice.
3. Visit - mum was nervous, but this
disappeared instantly with the welcome, friendliness and your which exceeded her expectations. Liz, our guide respected and talked to mum all the time. It felt safe and mum noticed that as she was shown around. The pace of the tour was at mum's pace. No rushing and answered all questions with knowledge and passion. Residents, maintenance man, carers and others all spoke to mum using her name and it felt like a happy place but more than that it felt like a special community. It was a personal visit, thank you for making it special. Before leaving mum met Sarah, deputy manager, who like everyone focused on mum and her experience and asked if mum has any questions? Just the one; 'when can I move in?' - two hours and a life changing experience of which as her daughter was wonderful to hear - she made her own decision and I'm so proud of her but I'm also so grateful to all the staff at Galanos House.
4. Transition - Assessment for mum's care and accessibility was thoughtful and thorough. Mandy, thank you. Moving day was special, having lunch with mum in the restaurant helped us all. Mum's room looked great. The furniture was set out well, and we loved helping mum unpack as so many residents and staff popped their heads in to say hello to mum, wonderful. The online financial set up was easy.
Visiting mum is wonderful, she has a voice and is enjoying herself and the staff, careers and new friendships are special already. I'm so proud of mum and so grateful to RBL Galanos House and all the staff. Mum lost her soul mate, my dad in May this year, and now in September she's not alone and in a wonderful community. Thank you xx

I wish to thank all the carers who looked after me and my wife who resides. It was our 49th wedding anniversary. We were treated to a lovely lunch and pudding. The staff were brilliant and made our day. The care she receives is wonderful at the home, splendid, top notch.

My mum is on Nursing at Galanos. She receives excellent care from the whole staff team who are also very welcoming to us as her family. We were able to enjoy a lovely birthday celebration with mum though the standard of consideration is not reserved just for special occasions. I am particularly impressed
by the open, receptive way that staff respond to concerns and questions which fits with the values of the care home. I also really appreciate the attention paid by staff to the small but crucial acts of personal care

Overall the experience at Galanos house has been outstanding. They work hard to achieve a safe and familiar environment for the residents. Visitors are welcomed and know exactly where the resident is, or find out immediately where they are.

If there are any issues they are minor and very quickly resolved. The staff are professional whilst at the same time friendly and approachable. The volunteers are absolutely wonderful, kind-hearted people. The accommodation is superb, each room reflects its residents character and each one is very

My father has been living in the residential wing at Galanos for almost three years, and I'm extremely happy with the care he receives. He enjoys and actively participates in many of the activities on offer and even contributes to life at the home in his own way. To him, Galanos feels like one big family-from
the management team to the care staff and fellow residents-and he has received meaningful support from that family in many different ways. I am deeply grateful for the support from the staff in looking after him - thank you very much.

Thank you for making Dad's first impressions so positive! I was so impressed that, having dropped his TV off at Reception at around 10am, that it was already PAT tested and set up to work in his room by the time he arrived, 2 hours later.
Similarly, he mentioned he had been overwhelmed by how he
was received when he arrived.

The experience I've had since my Father arrived at Galanos has been the best I could've wished for. From the management through to the nurses , care staff , activities team, maintenence & cleaners . They are all amazing . Nothing is too much trouble . They make my Father comfortable and well cared

Ever since my mum arrived at Galanos in August 2024 the staff have been amazing and to this day they continue to be amazing and do a great job looking after everyone in the care home. I really can't thank them enough for everything they do and have done for my mum. My Father was also a resident at Galanos
in 2018 and I am very grateful for all the love care and the support of the staff and management. I must also say about the volunteerers they do a fantastic job as well and deserve a lot of praise for giving up there time to help others. My mum is well looked after and treated so well by everyone. Every chance we get we all should try and donate something to this wonderful care home. Thank you very much to everyone that makes Galanos house very special for my mum and I know that my mum is truly grateful and appreciates everything that every member of staff, management and volunteerers do for her. So a masssive thank you from my heart to you all.

My mother was a resident at Galanos House for more than nine years. Mum lived in Poppy Lodge for the first seven years of her stay, and on the nursing wing for the last two years. My mother recently passed away peacefully at Galanos House at the age of 90 after having lived with the effects of Alzheimer's
for round 15 years.
The level of care that my mother received consistently over her nine years at Galanos can only be described as outstanding. Without exception, the staff were patient, kind, caring and professional in all of the aspects you could wish for.
There were many staff that had looked after Mum over the nine years, and too many to be able to thank when Mum passed away. Mum gained peace, security, happy times and kindness but - most of all - care and love too from the team at Galanos. My sister and I could not be more thankful for the way our Mum was cared for at Galanos and we believe Mum would have agreed.

Galanos House and Poppy Lodge where my mum is looked after provide excellent care. Everyone is kid and approachable and look after the whole family. Mum feel safe and glad she is well looked after and can see me on a regular basis. Galanos House is kind, caring and clean, thanks to the wonderful staff

Galanos House is a bit special in my opinion. The culture in any organisation is key and Galanos appears to have one that is very caring both to residents and to staff. It appears to lead to low turnover of staff which is key in any organisation but particularly so in a care home. And I believe a lot
of how an organisation performs reflects what comes from the top. Going into a care home can never be easy but I have no worries about my mother in law at Galanos - she is really well cared for and it shows. It was the same for my late father in law too. I have experience of a relative in another care home and it's like chalk and cheese!

Making the decision to move a family member to a care home is always difficult but I cannot speak more positively about our Galanos House experience so far. My dad came to Galanos House for a short stay but has recently made the decision to become permanent. Every member of staff is kind, welcoming

The fact that the carers and nurses and all staff at Galanos House really do care shows massively. They have made my father's life liveable again. The team are really supportive and does their very best to help. The activities that the team run for residents are great and help to keep my father entertained
and involved, much more than other care homes have done in the past.

Fantastic and attentive care of my father, fully supportive and also kind and engaging. From name places at the dinner table, seemingly endless tea coffee and biscuits, to services like taking him to the dentist or meeting all medical needs, the Galanos team are really amazing.

I can't fault the care my brother-in-law is receiving at Poppy Lodge, all of the staff are lovely, friendly and caring. Nothing is ever too much trouble, they always have time to chat and are so patient.
His mobility has improved enormously because he's encouraged to get up and get involved, rather
than being left to just sit in his chair.
He's also put on a bit of weight and always looks clean and tidy now, not something that happened when he was living on his own.
Although he didn't want to go into a home he now says he wishes he'd come to Galanos House ages ago, you can't say better than that.

Jo-Anne Wilson, MBE

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2003

Jo-Anne became the Registered Manager of Galanos House in 2003. Since then she has made a difference in not only the lives of many residents, but also staff members past and present, volunteers, and all the friends that come through the doors of Galanos House.


Jo-Anne was presented with an MBE by His Majesty King Charles III in February 2023; in addition to this, Jo-Anne holds the title of Queen's Nurse and sits on many boards including the Quality Matters board, the Task and Finish group for the RCN, and is the chair of the South Warwickshire Registered Managers Network for Skills for Care.
