Thanks so much to the incredible staff at Galanos for looking after my father. It's not the first daycare/club he has attended since having dementia but the difference is the staff really react to each individual and get the most out of them and make them feel comfortable.
He enjoys coming each week and it has improved his condition. The staff realised he can still write poetry and it's been a nice way for us to connect and communicate again.

I could not recommend Galanos highly enough. They have also been really flexible in the care. Thanks for all your help during a difficult time for us.

My mother-in-law has consistently had the most amazing care in the seven years since she has been at Galanos House. Every member of staff we have met has always been so professional, caring and friendly not only giving amazing care to my mother-in-law but to our family, always a welcoming smile. We truly have been part of the Galanos family, we are so very happy it truly has been a home from home.

The care given to my mother is quite wonderful. All the staff are so genuine, gentle and understanding. There is such respect for the residents it actually makes you want to be a better person just being around the staff.

I've just spent 4 days visiting the home and it has the most wonderful facilities for residents and visitors and it feels like a real pleasure to visit.

Always lovely to visit Galanos, everyone is so happy to answer any queries. My uncle is still settling in really but seems quite content. He has a few medical problems, especially with mobility. I was delighted to see he is using his walking frame again and can make his way to the bathroom. Obviously, this is down to the patience of the staff taking the time to encourage him.

Reply from Lucy Westland, Business Manager at Galanos House

I am so pleased to hear this to hear this, maximising mobility is so important and comes with increased confidence which is always so welcome. Our staff are truly passionate about the care that they give our wonderful residents and an opportunity to enhance their lives is always seized upon. Thank you so much for your kind review.

The dementia unit, Poppy Lodge, at Galanos House, is like paradise. The residents are so well cared for. The staff are cheerful, attentive, respectful, resourceful and kind. The residents are treated very much as individuals, with patience and good humour by all the staff, not just the carers themselves, but also the ancillary people too. The care team all seem to be skilled and highly motivated, which must to a great degree be down to recruitment, quality management, paying people properly, and ongoing training, which does Royal British Legion and Galanos House great credit, but most of all, they are patient and kind, which you can't put a price on.

Excellent, they are more family than care provider, I have had an extensive Galanos House experience using day care facilities, respite and full day care and end-of-life care, I couldn’t fault them nor could I have got through any of the last ten years without the constant support, collaboration and first-class facility! I am and forever will be in their debt, as a daughter of ageing parents and a mother of developing young adults. The staff haven’t just afforded loving, accommodating support to me but also an excellent role model to them of excellent standards of compassion while looking after their grandparent! Closest thing to heaven I will ever experience, thank you.

Excellent care and good visits in a separate quiet area at the end of the corridor in Poppy. Staff earlier provided help with getting my mother into a wheelchair to take her to this spot. But now they put her permanently in a wheelchair which is more sensible. Some worries that other residents come across during our visits but carers are very good at heading them off and have told us not to worry about needing to offer the other resident in question a drink since the carers are prompt at offering that.

First-class care by Galanos for my father who is 98 and with dementia. He is well fed, always very well dressed and clean and well groomed. When I ask him how he is he always says he is comfortable, and with no worries. Before he went to Galanos he was sleeping badly due to prostate problems, anxious and very irritable. Now he is calm, happy and his old charming self. It is priceless to have this gift of peace with him.

Galanos House is simply a wonderful place, staffed by Angels. It has three sections - residential, nursing and dementia, and the particular needs of each individual resident are catered for appropriately. I could not be more grateful for the care that my mother receives, the staff go above and beyond to look after her as best they can. Thank you!

We are very happy with the care that my mum has received at Galanos House. All of the staff that I have met treat her with dignity and respect. I can relax in the knowledge that she is safe and being well cared for and is very happy. Despite having Alzheimer’s disease and the confusion it brings, she tells me often how happy she is. The activity program is second to none, there’s always something interesting going on and the volunteers are wonderful. Mum especially enjoys the music events. She was very happy that she had a visit from one of the visiting clergy. Beforehand, Mum was a regular churchgoer, so spiritual care is very important to her. Thank you so much to all the staff and volunteers, you are amazing.

Mum has just moved to Poppy Lodge dementia care unit. It has been a difficult time for the family moving her from independent living but now she is there we have absolutely no doubt it was the right decision and best place for her. Mum's transition from day club into her room went smoothly, the staff were wonderful in supporting us to manage her move. Every single member of the staff and volunteer team have been so kind, understanding and empathetic. The move has meant that mum is around other people mostly of her own age. The team keep her engaged in some wonderful activities that are fun and stimulating. It is clear that staff are well trained in dementia and understand that relatives are living with dementia too. Mum's room is bright and a good size and she has been allowed many of her own home comforts. All staff are very approachable and keep us well informed through their social media page. We know she is being given the best care and no longer suffering alone at home. Wonderful.

Our father moved into Poppy Lodge at Galanos House just before Christmas.
He received a very warm welcome and has settled into life at Galanos extremely well.
When we visit, all of the staff and volunteers are very, very friendly - everyone deserves a 5-star review.
We are amazed by the amount of activities organised for the residents each week.
We are so happy that Dad has become part of the Poppy Lodge/Galanos family.

The care and attention to detail are first-class.

My father has received very kind and stimulating care ever since he entered Galanos House earlier this year. He is healthy, happy and seems to have regained his sunny personality. He is encouraged to be busy and involved with the many activities provided at the home. We are welcomed in whenever we have a chance to visit and staff are always willing to chat about his needs and activities. We feel very positive about the environment he is living in and it is giving him the best quality of life he could hope for with his condition.

My husband came for daycare from around August 2022. They cared for him so well and supported me emotionally. He moved to respite in January 2023 and transitioned to full-time care in Poppy Lodge from February 2023. The staff throughout have provided love, care, and careful management of his needs and supported me to play a positive part in his life. I am so grateful to all for their professionalism and dedication. The whole place is joyful and loving and there is so much fun and laughter.

I cannot thank the staff and management at Galanos House enough, they have been so supportive, sympathetic, understanding and caring towards my father who is a resident and has dementia. The activities team does wonders to keep him stimulated and active, the social media page keeps you updated with what activities and events are taking place at the home, and there is a positive social atmosphere which Dad engages with, it is a special place run by special people.
