Galanos House is situated on the edge of Southam, a small market town in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. The home is set within a number of attractive landscaped gardens. The home organises regular shopping trips in their minibus, as well as visits to the nearby historic towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon and Rugby.

At Galanos House, they recognise the importance of residents’ shared experiences. People there form special bonds and make new friends. They offer nursing, residential and dementia care, as well as respite and day care. The home is purpose built and opened on its current site in September 2002. It now has 91 spacious single rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. The smaller lounge areas and seating alcoves give the home a cosy, comfortable feeling, where you can sit and relax with a good book, enjoy a board game or chat with friends over a coffee. The air-conditioned conservatory gives the space an outdoor feel with an indoor temperature.

The care at Galanos House has been classified as ‘outstanding’ following a Care Quality Commission inspection in November 2017. Galanos House was also named ‘Care Home of the Year 2015’ by the National Care Awards, for its high standard of care and dedicated dementia care unit, Poppy Lodge.

The social side to life at Galanos House is very important. Their wellbeing team make sure there’s always lots to look forward to, including quizzes, art and craftwork, dancing, singing and concerts. Guests are always welcome to join residents for a meal in the dining room. The in-house cinema and bar add to the residents’ enjoyment. Camaraderie, social interaction and helping residents pursue their hobbies and interests play a big part in the day-to-day life at Galanos House.

I have 100% confidence my mother will be cared for with respect, fondness and humour which is important to her. Family visits with all her great-grandchildren are welcomed and we are never made to feel in the way.
She is stimulated and listened to.
The activities are excellent and artwork materials
wonderful. We are extremely grateful to have been accommodated.

Our mum went to Galanos House a little over two years ago after a bad experience. She has been impeccably cared for in a lovely room and the staff all treat her (and us) with respect, friendliness and compassion. She has just turned 100 years old and looks amazing, which is all down to the care given

My mother has been a resident for 2 and a half years and I have never been to a home that comes close to the quality of this one. The facilities and activities available are truly wonderful. Singers, musicians and entertainers attend most weeks. Staff are without exception always cheerful, fun, friendly
and treat all the residents with such kindness and compassion. I have total confidence in the home and know that they are doing everything in their power to make Mum's life as comfortable and fulfilling as possible.

There are always a good number of staff on duty. They have all been very attentive and caring towards my sister. There are always activities to engage and stimulate my sister, the staff encourage her to take part and support her throughout.

Unfortunately, my brother needed sensitive care for his Parkinson's dementia, after incurring an accident whilst living alone he was admitted to hospital.
After an assessment by the team from Galanos House he was deemed suitable for a placement, the transition and care provided from inception going
forward is nothing short of a dream.
Galanos House ought to receive open accolades from all care providers, from all the staff to volunteer supporters.
My brother did not want to go into a care home, we had struggled between our family members for 4 years to look after him in his own residency.
All our and more importantly his fears were put to rest immediately, the praise and care provided all these employees give is commendable to the human race.
Service with aplomb = a massive thankyou from our family.

Galanos House is an example to all in the care sector of how a care home could and should be run. The care my mother receives is outstanding. She is clearly well cared for, always dressed well and clearly content. The staff-to-resident ratio is very high and it's obvious my mother has a very good, trusting
relationship with the staff. There are always activities taking place, and the residents are strongly encouraged to spend their days in the communal areas rather than in their rooms. The staff are always welcoming and professional.
Prior to moving to Galanos House my mother was in a different care home and the difference in her cleanliness, the number of minor accidents and her general happiness is a world apart.

Whenever I expectantly turn up to visit my brother, he is always freshly dressed, shaven and groomed. Staff regularly pop in and check if he would like a drink or needs anything. They are always friendly, cheerful and attentive, calling him by his first name.

My mother has been in the home for 21.5 years and at all times her care has been excellent. There are a variety of activities which the residents are encouraged to attend but they are free to make their choice. The food is varied and of a high standard. The staff do a wonderful job maintaining a cheerful
outlook sometimes in difficult circumstances. Any need for medical treatment has been dealt with quickly.
The community hub attached to the home is a great asset, we go there regularly for coffee and again the staff are excellent.
My mother chose to go to Galanos as she knew it had a very good reputation she has not been disappointed.

My mother was loved and nursed for 7 long years at Galanos and passed away this year. My father is now in Galanos and has been for some months now, he is extremely happy and feels so well cared for; his words are that it is the best decision he ever made to move there, the staff are the very best you
could dream to have caring for him 24/7. He is treated with so much respect, love and dignity. He says that the time passes so quickly because there is always so much to do. He loves the meals and the variety. He couldn't wish to be anywhere better and we feel blessed that he is so well cared for.

Galanos House is a wonderful place. My Mother lives in the dementia unit Poppy Lodge. The residents are well looked after, the food is varied and nutritious and there are plenty of choices. The staff engage with the residents constantly throughout the day and lots of activities are available to all.
The staff are all caring and professional and we feel we are part of a very happy and caring family.

The care given to our father who has Alzheimer's is excellent and he is treated with a lot of love and dignity. When visiting we are always made to feel welcome and the staff are very happy to chat with us and Dad and provide updates. Dad says the food is excellent and there are always various activities
for the residents to get involved with if they wish. The social media page is a great way of keeping in touch and keeping up to date with what is happening on a day-to-day basis.

I can't recommend Galanos highly enough - the care for my father has been faultless with staff providing dignity, kindness and compassion at all times - they really care and there are so many activities and events for residents to participate in or not, as they choose - Galanos is also very well connected
to the local community of Southam which benefits all - a fabulous home all round.

Poppy Lodge Dementia Unit at Galanos House provides a fantastic level of care. It is always well-staffed, friendly and the staff always know how mum is. I couldn't commend it more highly. It has gently helped us accept the changes to Mum and care for us too.

Thanks so much to the incredible staff at Galanos for looking after my father. It's not the first daycare/club he has attended since having dementia but the difference is the staff really react to each individual and get the most out of them and make them feel comfortable.
He enjoys coming each week
and it has improved his condition. The staff realised he can still write poetry and it's been a nice way for us to connect and communicate again.
I could not recommend Galanos highly enough. They have also been really flexible in the care. Thanks for all your help during a difficult time for us.

The care given to my mother is quite wonderful. All the staff are so genuine, gentle and understanding. There is such respect for the residents it actually makes you want to be a better person just being around the staff.
I've just spent 4 days visiting the home and it has the most wonderful facilities
for residents and visitors and it feels like a real pleasure to visit.

Always lovely to visit Galanos, everyone is so happy to answer any queries. My uncle is still settling in really but seems quite content. He has a few medical problems, especially with mobility. I was delighted to see he is using his walking frame again and can make his way to the bathroom. Obviously,
this is down to the patience of the staff taking the time to encourage him.

Jo-Anne

Jo-Anne Wilson, MBE

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2003

Jo-Anne became the Registered Manager of Galanos House in 2003. Since then she has made a difference in not only the lives of many residents, but also staff members past and present, volunteers, and all the friends that come through the doors of Galanos House.


Jo-Anne was presented with an MBE by His Majesty King Charles III in February 2023; in addition to this, Jo-Anne holds the title of Queen's Nurse and sits on many boards including the Quality Matters board, the Task and Finish group for the RCN, and is the chair of the South Warwickshire Registered Managers Network for Skills for Care.
