Bankwood care home is a warm and welcoming environment offering residential and nursing care. Set in the scenic Amber Valley in Derbyshire, the home offers stunning valley views which can be enjoyed from the landscaped garden and patio area.

Inside the home, residents benefit from a TV lounge, a quiet lounge, a conservatory and a dedicated activities room with cinema facilities. In the hair salon, residents can enjoy a manicure, reflexology, sensory aromatherapy and music.

Bankwood also features lovely dining areas where residents can enjoy meals under the professional care of the catering team. Working hard to make mealtimes enjoyable, they design a varied menu to suit residents' tastes and requirements and are happy to cater for loved ones when they visit too.

The care team at Bankwood take the same approach; with a focus on personalised care, they get to know each resident as an individual to design a care plan that suits their personalities as much as their care needs. Whether they'd prefer to get involved with the lifestyle at the home or enjoy the quieter pace of life, residents are supported to live life the way they choose, empowered by a team who promote independence and dignity throughout.

Bankwood Care Home is, as far as my husband is concerned, a home from home into which he has settled very well indeed. He loves it!
As far as we are both concerned, the care is exemplary - kind, considerate, thoughtful and efficient. Residents' social well-being is very much considered and many activities
are offered, if required. Singers, pianists, other musicians provide regular entertainment. Festivals, such as Divali, Christmas, New Year, Burns Night, Chinese New Year and the like. are celebrated, public rooms being decorated accordingly.
There is a hairdressing salon, a quiet lounge, a conservatory and a large lounge, as well as an attractive dining room. Currently, there is much going on with refurbishing the interior public and private spaces, including the renovation of a Victorian room, previously partitioned off, now restored and retaining many of the original features, which will provide additional lounge space. The views from Bankwood are spectacular!

The management and staff of Bankwood Care Home are always so helpful to us. We recently organised a surprise birthday party for our stepmum and one member of staff, in particular, and the staff put it all together for us, going out to buy all the food and cake, through to setting up the room with balloons.
Our stepmum was very happy and emotional at the party, it made her day and thanks, almost entirely, to the staff at Bankwood who made this possible.

My mum has been a resident at Bankwood Care Home since July 2022 after having a stroke. The care from all the staff is of the highest standard. They all work together, as a team, turning their hands to whatever they see needs attention at the time. All the residents look happy, cared for and it's like
one big happy family. My mum is very happy here and she always tells how she is treated with care, respect and dignity at all times by all the staff. One of the most difficult tasks you will ever have to face is choosing a care home for your loved one.

Fantastic staff go above and beyond with their residents. They have taken great care of my mum, making sure she is well looked after and cared for. Always keep you informed if anything happening at the home or activities that are taking place. The staff are all friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
I totally trust the welfare of my mum with their great staff and are fantastic with dementia and Alzheimer's patients. I would like to thank them for all their care in making me
Feel confident that my mum is looked after and even thriving in her environment.

My experience with HC-One, Bankwood Care Home, could not be better. The manager and staff are always polite and helpful. I have found them so friendly and thoughtful. Mum's health is monitored daily. She can have her hair cut, feet attended to by the chiropodist, nurse and doctor. The most important
person, that is my mother, always says everyone is so kind, even when she is not at her best in the morning. Mum says the food is good and she enjoys all the entertainment in the home, plus the visit in the home's bus to garden centres are most enjoyable. Mum says this is my home, I live here. If anyone asked her, she would tell you she is happy. I must admit, I am very happy with all the treatment Mum receives and have already recommended Bankwood to my friends.

Hugely positive experience; my Dad (96) told me ‘I'm happy here’, his individual needs being catered for perfectly. A creature of habit, he had his settled spot in a calm conservatory atmosphere with his books close at hand and handily located close to his room. Wonderful team ethos, everyone chips
in and relates to the residents; special mention to the entertainment staff, who laid on massively creative activities which, given Dad's fading memory, often only came to light via photos in the Bankwood newsletter.

When my father arrived here he had been left in bed by the previous care providers, within 24 hours he had his nails cut (podiatrist), hair cut, bathed and was sat out in a bucket chair. He had not been able to feed himself but within days he can now feed himself independently. All the staff here treat
every resident with respect and love. Their dignity is always maintained and there is a real sense of home. All the staff are incredibly hardworking but never rush their time with the residents or their relatives.

The change in my relative's health and happiness since she went to Bankwood has been remarkable. From the first day to now, the staff have been kind, considerate and caring when dealing with my relative. My relative has many medical needs and is bed-bound, but this does not stop the staff from getting
my relative out of bed at every opportunity to socialise and attend events (which are many) within the home. We could not have wished for a better, more caring home for our relative to live in.

Bankwood employs some really caring and thoughtful staff. Carers and managers, plus nurses, were interested in my husband as a person, and this really helped my husband to feel safe and well cared for during his short stay. His health needs were always asses and supported, and my husband's comfort was
valued - thank you. Overall, the staff were kind, considerate and compassionate.

My mum moved to Bankwood in April for end-of-life care. She thrived in the company of others, the care given by nurses and carers. It was a lovely place to visit to spend time with her. She sadly passed away om September 18th and I couldn't be more grateful for the care she received in her last days.
All of the team at Buckwood have been so supportive in my time of need. Thank you.

I am happy with Bankwood. All staff are very helpful, and the food is very good. I feel the staff are pushed to the limit at times, with work. The overall atmosphere at times seems stressed as certain customers demand more than others.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Bankwood Care HomeThank you for the positive feedback about the team. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.835)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.835) out of 10 for Bankwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.835 for Bankwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (295 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 345 Ratings = 4.835
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bankwood Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
