Bankwood care home is a warm and welcoming environment offering residential and nursing care. Set in the scenic Amber Valley in Derbyshire, the home offers stunning valley views which can be enjoyed from the landscaped garden and patio area.

Inside the home, residents benefit from a TV lounge, a quiet lounge, a conservatory and a dedicated activities room with cinema facilities. In the hair salon, residents can enjoy a manicure, reflexology, sensory aromatherapy and music.

Bankwood also features lovely dining areas where residents can enjoy meals under the professional care of the catering team. Working hard to make mealtimes enjoyable, they design a varied menu to suit residents' tastes and requirements and are happy to cater for loved ones when they visit too.

The care team at Bankwood take the same approach; with a focus on personalised care, they get to know each resident as an individual to design a care plan that suits their personalities as much as their care needs. Whether they'd prefer to get involved with the lifestyle at the home or enjoy the quieter pace of life, residents are supported to live life the way they choose, empowered by a team who promote independence and dignity throughout.

My uncle was well looked after by all the staff at Bankwood, I would like to give all the wonderful team 10 stars. The staff were wonderfully helpful, for everything we asked for an exact answer was given to us. My uncle was very pleased to be understood, all staff was kind and had a comfortable manner.
He was looked after by all the staff. Heartfelt thanks from the family.

This has to be the best home I have ever seen in Derby, very neat. Staff members are polite and treat you with dignity and respect irrespective of who you are. I will recommend this care home to anyone and everyone.

I am extremely satisfied with the way all the staff have looked after and attended to my dad's needs thus far. There has been a genuine desire to really care for him, which has been constantly demonstrated through the attitudes, behaviours and excellent skills - not just in nursing but social attributes.
This has been exacerbated and perpetuated by a pleasant, clean, tidy and safe environment, which is a real comfort to me, knowing he is being really well looked after.

My mother was admitted to Bankwood 2 weeks ago, from hospital as a result of being fast-tracked for end-of-life care. In the short time she has been there she has been generally pleased with her care and treatment. The staff have all been very helpful and compassionate in dealing with my very frail
and elderly mother. She does get very frustrated with her loss of independence and free will but the staff have shown patience and understanding with these frustrations. She is enjoying her meals and they accommodate her with very small portions so she is not overwhelmed. Overall we are very pleased with the care she is receiving in such a warm and friendly environment. Many thanks to all the staff of Bankwood.

This home is staffed and managed by people who care. In her final weeks and throughout her stay, my mum was cared for and kept safe by people who really cared and enjoyed what they do. She couldn't have been in a better place. Thank you.

My husband has lived at Bankwood for several years. I think he is well looked after and I'm kept informed about his welfare. I'm content to know he is safe, and the manager and the staff do everything they can to ensure the residents are well cared for, safe and happy.

My son has been in Bankwood for around six years. His care and dignity are looked after very well with the carers and the nurses looking after him very well. Just know when he is not well; will act very quickly to try and solve the problem. The home has a very homely feel to it. The deputy manager and
manager have been on the ball, so to speak, very quickly if there is a medical problem with him.

It's so pleasing when I visit my mother-in-law to see her so happy and cheerful. Since she has been at Bankwood, we have noticed a vast difference in her health and appearance - she keeps telling us how happy she is and how wonderful all the carers and staff are. It really puts our minds at ease to
know that she is really looked after. She keeps commenting on how lovely the meals are - and that nothing is too much trouble. She says it feels like she's stopping at a five-star hotel!

My aunt became a resident at Bankwood in February 2020, and shortly afterwards, lockdown was upon us. I managed to speak to her using a mobile most days, and I could tell she was happy, talking about the staff and residents who had become her friends. She really enjoyed the food and many of the activities
provided. Having a room at the front, she loved the view across to the Chevin. She also enjoyed sitting on the deck area outside.
Once the Covid restrictions started to ease, they did everything to facilitate visits to her inside the home and later on visits away from the home. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful. If she needed access to medical help, it was given in one form or another as soon as possible. Her health deteriorated from the beginning of this year, and she passed away at the beginning of May. The kindness and compassion shown to her and us at that time were exemplary.

The staff have always been very considerate and friendly, really forming a bond with my mum. Mum has always enjoyed the food and the choices. The home has organised many great activities, including celebrating various traditional festivals and a wonderful Jubilee celebration, where families were also
able to attend.
The location is also quite special, as it has amazing views across the valley and a patio for outdoor visits and well-maintained and stocked gardens. Mum has a lovely room, looking out across the valley and also enjoys time in the conservatory as well as in the garden.

My mother came to Bankwood for some respite care and was very low on arrival. The staff were very understanding and kind. They did all they could to help her to adjust including facilitating family visits as much as possible. On all occasions, we have met with courtesy and care from all the staff. My
mother's meals have all smelt delicious and were well presented.

My mother really enjoyed making a daffodil and making new friends to talk to. My mother said, "The staff are really good and look after me well".
Mum is getting into a routine now though she still likes being in her room best. She has really enjoyed going out and meeting other people and lots of ladies
to chat too. The staff are really lovely, committed to caring for mum and making her transition from the hospital much easier.

It's difficult to write a full review as due to Covid restrictions visitors are not currently allowed to visit residents in their rooms/communal areas.
Bankwood is well managed and staff are always respectful to my aunt and keep me fully informed of any changes. My aunt is doing extremely well which
is a testament to the care she receives. Thankyou all.

My mother only had a couple of weeks at Bankwood before she became seriously ill and had to remain in hospital thereafter. However, I was completely confident that Bankwood was the most capable home in the area for nursing capabilities, and had a pleasing environment. The only criticism expressed by
my mother was that routine activities i.e. meals, medicines, ablutions all came too close together.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Bankwood Care HomeThank you for the lovely feedback received in relation to Bankwood Care Home. We are sorry that Mum felt that some of the routine activities within the service were conducted closely together. We aim to ensure all our residents are supported in line with their personal preferences and wishes and have taken this feedback back to our team to discuss how we could do things slightly differently to ensure routine activities are conducted at a pace suitable for each of our individuals. Thank you again for your feedback, this has helped us to identify how we can continue to improve upon the service we provide to our residents within Bankwood Care Hone.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.855)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.855) out of 10 for Bankwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.855 for Bankwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (307 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 352 Ratings = 4.855
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bankwood Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
