My mum moved to Bankwood in April for end-of-life care. She thrived in the company of others, the care given by nurses and carers. It was a lovely place to visit to spend time with her. She sadly passed away om September 18th and I couldn't be more grateful for the care she received in her last days. All of the team at Buckwood have been so supportive in my time of need. Thank you.

As soo as my mother entered Bankwood Care Home, she was attended to by a very caring member of staff. Staff are friendly, caring and nothing is too much trouble for them.

My mother has become a different person in the three weeks of being at Bankwood.

The manager and all staff provided super care for my father during his last months of life.
This home was indeed a "home from home".

Being comfortable, involving and stimulating, but when required or desired separate and individual.

I am happy with Bankwood. All staff are very helpful, and the food is very good. I feel the staff are pushed to the limit at times, with work. The overall atmosphere at times seems stressed as certain customers demand more than others.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Bankwood Care Home

Thank you for the positive feedback about the team. This will be passed on to everyone at Bankwood so that we can continue to deliver kind, person-centred care to all our residents in such a manner nobody feels rushed or that our team are stressed.

The warmth of our original reception and the ongoing care and kindness from every single member of staff that we have met proved to us that we could not have found a better place for Mum to spend her last few weeks. Mum never once complained to us about anything and we found a positive atmosphere throughout. Meals were made specifically for her, using ingredients that we provided. Nothing ever seemed to be asking too much. Staff were friendly, respectful and often had a sense of fun. They cared for the whole family. An amazing place.

For anyone looking to find a placement for a loved one, it is easy to get distracted by all the negative media attention some of the care sector receives. To this end, my wife and I felt under quite a bit of stress trying to find the right location for my mum in December 2021. We counted our blessings many times after she was placed in the care of the team at Bankwood. Halfway through 2022, she was diagnosed with two forms of dementia and was not able to interact with people, or staff, to any great degree anymore. The staff could not have treated her with more care or respect if they had tried. Unfortunately in March of this year after spending three weeks back in hospital my mum needed end-of-life care. We were so pleased when she became stable enough to be moved back to Bankwood amongst the people we had come to regard as our extended family. It really felt like she was home. She passed away later that month leaving everyone feeling like they had lost someone close to them. Thank you!

My uncle was well looked after by all the staff at Bankwood, I would like to give all the wonderful team 10 stars. The staff were wonderfully helpful, for everything we asked for an exact answer was given to us. My uncle was very pleased to be understood, all staff was kind and had a comfortable manner. He was looked after by all the staff. Heartfelt thanks from the family.

I am extremely satisfied with the way all the staff have looked after and attended to my dad's needs thus far. There has been a genuine desire to really care for him, which has been constantly demonstrated through the attitudes, behaviours and excellent skills - not just in nursing but social attributes. This has been exacerbated and perpetuated by a pleasant, clean, tidy and safe environment, which is a real comfort to me, knowing he is being really well looked after.

My mother was admitted to Bankwood 2 weeks ago, from hospital as a result of being fast-tracked for end-of-life care. In the short time she has been there she has been generally pleased with her care and treatment. The staff have all been very helpful and compassionate in dealing with my very frail and elderly mother. She does get very frustrated with her loss of independence and free will but the staff have shown patience and understanding with these frustrations. She is enjoying her meals and they accommodate her with very small portions so she is not overwhelmed. Overall we are very pleased with the care she is receiving in such a warm and friendly environment. Many thanks to all the staff of Bankwood.

My husband has lived at Bankwood for several years. I think he is well looked after and I'm kept informed about his welfare. I'm content to know he is safe, and the manager and the staff do everything they can to ensure the residents are well cared for, safe and happy.

My son has been in Bankwood for around six years. His care and dignity are looked after very well with the carers and the nurses looking after him very well. Just know when he is not well; will act very quickly to try and solve the problem. The home has a very homely feel to it. The deputy manager and manager have been on the ball, so to speak, very quickly if there is a medical problem with him.

It's so pleasing when I visit my mother-in-law to see her so happy and cheerful. Since she has been at Bankwood, we have noticed a vast difference in her health and appearance - she keeps telling us how happy she is and how wonderful all the carers and staff are. It really puts our minds at ease to know that she is really looked after. She keeps commenting on how lovely the meals are - and that nothing is too much trouble. She says it feels like she's stopping at a five-star hotel!

My aunt became a resident at Bankwood in February 2020, and shortly afterwards, lockdown was upon us. I managed to speak to her using a mobile most days, and I could tell she was happy, talking about the staff and residents who had become her friends. She really enjoyed the food and many of the activities provided. Having a room at the front, she loved the view across to the Chevin. She also enjoyed sitting on the deck area outside.

Once the Covid restrictions started to ease, they did everything to facilitate visits to her inside the home and later on visits away from the home. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful. If she needed access to medical help, it was given in one form or another as soon as possible. Her health deteriorated from the beginning of this year, and she passed away at the beginning of May. The kindness and compassion shown to her and us at that time were exemplary.

The staff have always been very considerate and friendly, really forming a bond with my mum. Mum has always enjoyed the food and the choices. The home has organised many great activities, including celebrating various traditional festivals and a wonderful Jubilee celebration, where families were also able to attend.

The location is also quite special, as it has amazing views across the valley and a patio for outdoor visits and well-maintained and stocked gardens. Mum has a lovely room, looking out across the valley and also enjoys time in the conservatory as well as in the garden.
